I really like the position of that live well and rod holders. I am not as flexible as I used to me so something like that is super important to me. Being able to reach my gear, stability, how easy it is to not only stand but to stand up in, how easy is it to get in and out of more me, all of these are super important.
KayakDIY - I'm not talking full countersink and surrounded on four sides, I'm talking where the keel 'breaks away' and there's flat area for the transducer to mount (similar to how the new Topwater does it). The only thing next to, and protecting, the transducer is the elevated keel right in front. Scanning wise would be no different than boaters who transom mount their finders.
Finally I get to see the bottom of a Hobie. I have been looking at sever designs from many companies to familiarize myself in design. I'm planning on designing and building one. I have only built large boats ( 35 to 65 feet) and in fiberglass of course. Today's kayaks, most, are made from an aluminum mold, filled with powdered plastic and then heated. Fiberglass molds are made from fiberglass which is my area of knowledge and expertise.----I have my own shop, Boneyard Marine. The name gives it away....restoration. It's a nasty job....grinding and sanding on fiberglass is not fun work. Very itchy. Laying up fiberglass is sticky. But ya know....the end product is worth every bit. This is what sucks...a long forgotten boat found behind a barn can be restored but it's not worth too much more after you put in all that work and money into it.
Can run them into the hull via front hatch or mid hatch. Would need to remove front hatch pan to slide them in from there. The sail mast mount would interfere with some fish. Other scenario is a fish bag strapped on top deck bow or stern.
The live well hatch cover and the front hatch cover need to have a solar panel option. Integrate a SP into the hatch cover and then coat it with something so that the SP is protected.
Good review..I would like to see Hobie's prices go down. So far the only one that I like, other than the Hobie PA series, would be the new Pelican, really like the price. I will wait to see the finished product from Pelican before making up my mind...I have to have a pedal style kayak, don't care to paddle for long distances, and don't really care for an electric motor. I do like the mirage style system. I will wait and see....Out of curiosity, did they give a price on the 2019 Hobie PA's?
Check out the Riot Mako as well. I honestly really liked the Mako. It comes in under $1000! We did a video on it. Some folks said the drive was slightly noisy, but I think they were prostaff from another kayak company. I thought the Riot Mako drive felt and sounded great. My father who is an engineer was even impressed by the value.
Adrian Gonzalez yeah the new Pelican Catch mirage drive lol. Hobie won’t make anything cheaper than what they currently offer anytime soon, as least that’s what my local dealer rep told me. They sell every yak they can make quite easily.
You have to admit though that the proangler 14 is a beast of a boat.!! I know people will say ..yea but for the price you can buy a jon boat or a used bass boat..but still that kayak is pretty sweet.!!
So I take it this will not be coming to the Outback this year? I was looking forward to finally replacing my old ob and adding a lowrance elite series ff. But I am not interested in a PA. I fish the salt on the west coast and trying to launch/land a pa is not gonna happen.
In the video, the Hobie rep says "will be standard on all 2019 PA's" said nothing about OB's. Did I miss something? Sounds to me like the OB is left out.
Michael Peterka sorry. I thought he clarified that. My bad. Information overload. Cranking out videos 24/7. Brain is about to 🤯 Outback is incredibly popular for fishing so they definitely would. 👍👍
As someone who uses a TotalScan transducer, this is an amazing innovation. The only thing that could top this is if they figure out how to simplify the ability to reverse via a hands free mechanism. I will sell my Pescador Pilot the second they do this.
I sure would like to see someone talk about a shark Shield. Would you know any dealer that would sell in California? Do you think this device actually works?
I most likely have the most custom PA14, 2016 in the world IMHO. Everywhere I go a crowd eventually developers around when launching n coming out. The best thing Hobie can do IMHO is place the pull lines at a 45* angle so the action of lock up of cam wheels is easier accomplished. Also, make the reverse update offered at a reasonable price. Come on Hobie,,,
It's the closest thing to a perfect kayak for me. The only cons for me is no instant reverse and weight which are minor. The new Big Rig FD is the only one that comes close, but it's slow, steering is terrible, the rudder is easily damaged, not sure about the rod storage, and they still haven't addressed the transducer.
I have two Hobies, bought used, that I've put to good use. Looking at buying again soon, but was hoping Pelican would drive the price down. Guess I'll wait a couple of years and see what happens. P.S. Don't care for the reverse model drive!
Adam Wilson lots of competition now in pedal drives. Hobie definitely isn’t the only player. I enjoy my Hobies but lots of other attractive pedal kayaks.
I'll bet they updated their prices again too ;-) . That's the thing that keeps me from buying one.....that kinda money for a piece of molded plastic....oh boy.
I hope Hobie is reading this, but as competition increases and additional choices are available to consumers the niche Hobie is becoming known for is being frustratingly over priced and under delivering. I see a market share shuffle coming unless they 1) produce better technology than currently available through Hobie and 2) become more aggressively priced. Just FYI Hobie - just being honest.
diy vittles vault beats the hobie livewell all day long....also, seems like a good time to get a deal on the 2018 PA for all the fan boys flocking to the 19 just for that dumb transducer mount
ineedmondayoff def more color options, accessoriea in only black is boring. Figure out a way that I can load and unload easier for the weight I'm lifting. The seat fabric is awesome for drying but for me in my bikini it rubs my skin raw. All in all I wouldn't trade my Hobie for any other kayak.
Pelican gonna put the hurting on the market 👏. Hobies overpriced plastic price will have to drop significantly to keep any volume moving people will not spend 2x the price for them. Well done Pelican!
Huge updates? I figured that would mean a new drive system since they let their patent expire, not a transducer mount with springs. and a livewell (adding ~100lbs (unit + 11gal water))
I understand, it's icast and every big name has to just have something dramatically different. I defer to the old adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it". What do they really need to innovate? Pelican is using their pedal design, Hobie didn't care to re-apply their patent on it. All it looks like to me, are subtle and small improvements over previous models. They didn't release a new model like everyone else. Look at their sales, they didn't feel the need.
Hobie, better quit screwing around and make a more affordable model with mirage drive. Their mirage drive patent ran out and their hold on the market will weaken as the market gets filled with other choices soon.

Scott good points. The ergonomics of the Hobies is great.
Neat, but more moving parts and screw points that might bring future cracking. I love my my Hobie PA. Thanks for all the great reviews and reports.
I wouldn't upgrade just for that from my 15 outback but it is very cool
Maybe if they dump half their middlemen prices would drop and their PR has a chance of recovery.
Why not just mold a protected/elevated pocket for transducer mounting into the hull?
thechosendude because side scan fishfinders need to be below the hull.

For sea fishing, where do you store Big fishes into this kayak ????? Like GT, tuna...?
Can run them into the hull via front hatch or mid hatch. Would need to remove front hatch pan to slide them in from there. The sail mast mount would interfere with some fish. Other scenario is a fish bag strapped on top deck bow or stern.
@@KayakDIY ok thank you for your help😀
The live well hatch cover and the front hatch cover need to have a solar panel option. Integrate a SP into the hatch cover and then coat it with something so that the SP is protected.
but did they update them prices...
😂 wishful thinking. I too would have like seeing that.
So my transducer has to 'hit' something first? Why not make it completely recessed like my Trident 15 and Thresher 15.

Will do, thanks!
Any new hobies that won’t cost an arm and leg
Adrian Gonzalez yeah the new Pelican Catch mirage drive lol. Hobie won’t make anything cheaper than what they currently offer anytime soon, as least that’s what my local dealer rep told me. They sell every yak they can make quite easily.
Adrian Gonzalez your funny. I heard the new kayak they will be releasing next year requires a first born sacrifice
They upgraded pricing too. Now instead of arm and leg it only costs you your first born. 😂
Compass.
Nytron no reverse...no buy. 😉
Your words not mine. The low price Compass option has older non-reverse drive design.
I'll stick to the bicycle drive no cord to pull, hobie loosing market share they're feeling it
You have to admit though that the proangler 14 is a beast of a boat.!! I know people will say ..yea but for the price you can buy a jon boat or a used bass boat..but still that kayak is pretty sweet.!!
justgoonline - luc sorry you can't afford one
Thystaff Thywill it's a free country and a free market. People have the choice to buy what they please. 95% of my club has Hobies.
A transducer mount and a newish livewell- not exactly huge news.
dp4auburn it is totally HUGE news. 🤫😂😂
They need to add more accessories to their kayaks. The hulls seem soft compared to other brands.
I have said the same about Hobies. My deck where I stand flexes more than my Pelican and Sundolphin kayaks
So I take it this will not be coming to the Outback this year? I was looking forward to finally replacing my old ob and adding a lowrance elite series ff. But I am not interested in a PA. I fish the salt on the west coast and trying to launch/land a pa is not gonna happen.
Michael Peterka 2019 kayaks
In the video, the Hobie rep says "will be standard on all 2019 PA's" said nothing about OB's. Did I miss something? Sounds to me like the OB is left out.
Hey just to let you know, I reached out to Hobie for clarification. They just got back to me. It will be standard on Outbacks as well...Good News!!!
Michael Peterka sorry. I thought he clarified that. My bad. Information overload. Cranking out videos 24/7. Brain is about to 🤯
Outback is incredibly popular for fishing so they definitely would. 👍👍
Any new compass colors?
As someone who uses a TotalScan transducer, this is an amazing innovation. The only thing that could top this is if they figure out how to simplify the ability to reverse via a hands free mechanism. I will sell my Pescador Pilot the second they do this.
I know I am pretty randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to watch new series online?
@Johnathan Rudy i use FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
@Lucas Amos Yea, I have been watching on flixzone for months myself :D
@Lucas Amos Thank you, signed up and it seems to work =) I appreciate it!!
@Lucas Amos Thanks, signed up and it seems like a nice service :D I really appreciate it !!
I sure would like to see someone talk about a shark Shield. Would you know any dealer that would sell in California? Do you think this device actually works?
RUDYAKAHALIBU77 I think the retractable sonar (Guardian) will work well. In regards to shark shield...I think that would be awesome.
Come on Hobie,,,
Also, make the pa14 6" wider.
Get a pelican and then in 7 years replace it with another pelican and you’re still paying less than what a hobie costs.
Cheryl T the new Pelican HyDryve was pretty awesome. I did a video on it as well.
Not enough to make want to invest in a PA 14 😕 kinda sad
Aliex Fishing is Hobie losing their edge?
Outa ThisWorld or holding for something big 😉
thats it!?
hard to make upgrades when its already a great boat
It's the closest thing to a perfect kayak for me. The only cons for me is no instant reverse and weight which are minor. The new Big Rig FD is the only one that comes close, but it's slow, steering is terrible, the rudder is easily damaged, not sure about the rod storage, and they still haven't addressed the transducer.
An honest question; why put on a transducer if the overwhelming majority of kayak fisherman are in an average of 3 feet of water?
I have two Hobies, bought used, that I've put to good use. Looking at buying again soon, but was hoping Pelican would drive the price down. Guess I'll wait a couple of years and see what happens.
P.S. Don't care for the reverse model drive!
Danny Williams that or buy used. Find occasional deals of under $1000.
🤔. Berley Pro already solved the transducer problem.
Flyboy Phil BerleyPro does make awesome transducer plates but it is a bit different.
Nice boats, but I think you can get a much better value for your money.
Adam Wilson lots of competition now in pedal drives. Hobie definitely isn’t the only player. I enjoy my Hobies but lots of other attractive pedal kayaks.
Yet people are buying the heck out of them
HUGE ?
The guy jumping off the kayak looks like a baby deer being delivered
I'll bet they updated their prices again too ;-) . That's the thing that keeps me from buying one.....that kinda money for a piece of molded plastic....oh boy.
I was expecting to see a modified and more reliable reverse mirage drive...
PRICE “NEED” TO DROP!!!!!!!!
Quality boat affordable price, that’s how you do it
This comes out just after I bought my PA 14 back in March of 2018 😭😭😭
I hope Hobie is reading this, but as competition increases and additional choices are available to consumers the niche Hobie is becoming known for is being frustratingly over priced and under delivering. I see a market share shuffle coming unless they 1) produce better technology than currently available through Hobie and 2) become more aggressively priced. Just FYI Hobie - just being honest.
Teşekkürler
How about making them more affordable! That would be a great Improvement! Hands-free fishing is nice but not worth $2,500
I have a Hobie. I will never own another one. I’ve had to many issues with mine.
diy vittles vault beats the hobie livewell all day long....also, seems like a good time to get a deal on the 2018 PA for all the fan boys flocking to the 19 just for that dumb transducer mount
Those are popular. Built several. I sell the supplies in my store too.
I rides 2017 PA 12 and would love to see more options for woman. Love my Hobie, but with new "copycats" better lower some of these prices.
Amy Zukowski I love my Hobie Revolution. I bought the sail and sidekicks. It is 81 pounds. Ended up buying a trailer.
Rather B Fishing, we are on trailer too. Hub rides the 14 and his is a beast to load, but the best investment we have made yet. Perfect for florida
What kind of options would a woman need?
ineedmondayoff def more color options, accessoriea in only black is boring. Figure out a way that I can load and unload easier for the weight I'm lifting. The seat fabric is awesome for drying but for me in my bikini it rubs my skin raw. All in all I wouldn't trade my Hobie for any other kayak.

A transducer mount? Really? That’s it.
Uuhhh Desperate for innovation! Is like buying Louis Vuiton sales the name but is more of the same nothing special.
I understand, it's icast and every big name has to just have something dramatically different. I defer to the old adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Compass.
100,000 $:-)😱😱😱😱
Price, weight, plastic. I’ll stick to a boat...
Whatever best makes sense to you and gets you on the water having fun....that is always the right choice.
Hobies are the Yetii's of the kayaking world. Overpriced
:)
