My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!
I’m amazed the amount of people crying about no reverse? Did everyone start fishing when reverse came out? The original 2011-2013 V2 drive was the most well constructed and reliable peddle drive I’ve ever seen. I’m on my third reverse drive already. My first V2 lasted me from 2011-2015 with minimal issues.
I had the same thoughts man. My reverse drive is currently sitting in my trailer broken two different ways, and I’m using my old faithful original drive from 2014 instead.
Thank you EliasVFishing. I thought I was the only one. My kayak doesn't even have pedals. Reverse for me means sticking my paddle in the water. Never had and issue with this method.
What issues are you having with the reverse drives? I’m curious to know as mine is 6 months old and rode hard. Can’t the older drives be flipped for reverse?
EliasVFishing Wow I tested a hobie at a demo and didn’t care to much for the pull cords to get it to switch into reverse.... I’m sure it was me but I felt like I need an instruction manual lol. But on that note you can take the original drive out and put it in backwards and pedal it and go in reverse. So in a way you do have reverse its just a real pain in the a$$ to use lol.
Competition is a good thing, and Pelican is a well-made rig. My grandson has a Pelican Apex100 Angler, and it's a sturdy little rig. As far as the Pelican fin drive not having reverse, hopefully everyone still carries a paddle with them. The price point of this rig ($1499?) is a great deal.
There's a vid by Beyond The Bounds where he compares a Hobie with the Mirage 180 Drive and a Native Watercraft Slayer with Propel drive. He seems to give a balanced overview. One thing that he brings up (and it relates to having a reverse) is it being easier to compensate for wind and when fighting a fish, a Propel drive with it's hands free reverse is much more convenient. Not having any reverse may mean choosing between having a rod in hand or drifting out of place/into something.
This is a great review. Your Pelican Catch 120 review convinced me to by a Catch series kayak and I've been 100% happy with my decision. I went with the Catch 100 because I decided 80% of my fishing was more suited to the smaller Kayak. Based on my experience I had already decided I would buy the bigger Catch 120 for large waters, Camping trips, possible trolling motor mount etc. Now I'll wait for the 130 HD. The lack of reverse isn't really an issue to me. As a kayak fisherman who currently does not own a pedal kayak, my interest in the Pedal system is to cover water quickly and with less effort. With the open front on this Kayak, I would probably remove the drive system once I reached my fishing area, put it in the front to get it out of the way and use my paddle to maneuver the area. I might also use it to troll, but any maneuvering would be done with my paddle. There are several 700+ acre watershed lakes near me and this system would let me spend more time fishing and less time getting to those back coves. Plus getting back to the ramp in a head wind after a long day would be much less of a chore. Personally, the ability to instantly bring the flippers up flat against the hull in shallow water, is more important than reverse,
Yeah the Catch 120 was a great value. Time will tell about this one. The lack of reverse isn’t a big deal to me either, and Hobie’s reverse drive has had serious mechanical and durability issues since it’s launch. Their original design was rock solid.
Thanks. Wasn't trying to "fish" for subs -- but if you're subbed make sure you register for the Bass Pro Giveaway only a few days left. (Sorry for inadvertently hijacking your post Robert).
Notice the nubs on each side of the Hydryve, at the 2:46 mark of video, appear to be solid stainless steel instead of the plastic nubs on the Hobie drive system...one of which snapped off in one of your comparison videos awhile back. Pelican was wise to improve that aspect of the drive system! I'm also a fan of how much deck space there is in front of the seat.
That's great to see. I just put up a review of my Pelican 100SE Angler (for a buddy who was curious) which I considered a budget starter. I am really interested in seeing this next year
This is the second fin-style pedal drive (non-Hobie) review I've seen on your channel and all I can say is YES! I've owned a Hobie Outback, I regret selling it before a difficult move, but even the Compass lower price point can't compare to these new offerings. The features others are offering are far superior to the $1950 Compass, which is bare bare bare bones. The biggest problem for me NOW is the amount of homework I need to do to find the best features for price in these types. 😂😂 THANK YOU!
I bought a Pelican Catch 120 this past year and I really like it. I'm definitely gonna look into getting me this pedal drive. $1500?!?!?!? You can't beat that. I've tried the bicycle style pedal drives and I did not like them. However, I really did like the Hobie style "mirage" drive, so this kayak has to be amazing. Can't wait and keep up the great stuff Robert. 👍👏
One of the only features this boat seems to lack that Hobies do have is the horizontal rod storage in the hull. Correct me if I'm wrong. Very nice when you're under low cover.
Bought two catch 120s . they are my first kayaks. My son and I fish in them twice a week and love these . I would like to try some others just out of curiosity but have no complaints. I might be saving some cash for a couple of these now.
Can't wait for this model to come to market. I was seriously considering a Hobie Compass but this Pelican Catch a viable and more affordable option. I fish open Pacific Ocean so a reverse feature or lack-there-of not an issue for me. The drive technology already proven, and beaching much more convenient than a prop-drive system. My other affordable option was the Riot Kayaks Mako 12 the most affordable prop-drive fishing kayak. It's nice to see the tech war in kayak drive systems bringing the price down in these kayaks. My only problem is I live in Hawai'i so the shipping is a killer with Hobie being the only maker with peddle drive available locally on-island.
Just ordered mine yesterday. When I went to a local distributor of Pelican they knew nothing about this kayak. The gentleman at the dealership pretty much told me that Pelican has no such kayak. I would suggest Pelican to get the word out to the distributors that this is now available. Hoping to see mine within the next week!
After waiting 4 weeks just got confirmation that it’s coming in on February 13th. It’s taking a lot longer then expected. As soon as weather permits we will get her out on the bay!
Just picked mine up today from WEST Marina In Maryland! It took just about 7 Weeks to get it from my initial order date! Hopefully I can get a review out within the next month!
I think the key question here is: how much this thing weights? I can fish inshore/offshore with my Slayer 10. It is very stable and comfortable. It is only 59 lbs, I can put it on my car roof rack alone with 0 effort. It is easy to store and easy to drug through the beach. If this kayak is > 70 lbs, no matter how cheap it is, I would rather add 700$ more and buy outback or slayer.
I've had a catch 120 For about 4 months now. I've been on the water every weekend because of pelicans price point. Can't wait for the catch 18'. This with a Lawrence bad ass depth finder one big battery 60 pound trolling motor with GPS auto guide
Awesome vid! I got to check out that kayak at iCast as well and was very impressed with the construction and quality. Looks like a winner at the $1499 price point!
OK. I like this, but I have one very important question. What is preventing unseen flotsam from busting up the fins? Sometimes you just can not see that rock or that sunken log. It would suck a lot to be 5 miles from camp and have a broken propulsion system. Sure you are going to have a paddle with, but a broken boat is a broken boat.
Typically just the fin mast bends and you can carry spares with you for an easy repair on the water. In my 6 years with this type of drive, I’ve only had an issue once. I had a spare but I just paddled back and fixed it back at home. Takes 5 minutes but vice grips make it much easier.
thank you for this info robert i live in egypt and do kayak fishing. i wanted to upgrade my kayak to a newer one and my first kayak to choose was a hobbie but then i realized it was to expencive so now i know what to get
while the original mirage drive patent expired, alot of the tweaks are still under patent. So no kickup fins, no 180's or 360, though i wish other companies did have these features it would force hobbie reduce prices. Instead they just put out a thermoform model (the passport) and still kept everything else under a massive markup.
Marty is the man!! Love that guy. So many people that have gained his notoriety get a big head and forget about the “little people.” Marty is as humble as they come. The world could use more influencers like him.
I would like a kayak that I can paddle in skinny water but still use for pedaling nearshore fishing. Do you think this would be close to what I'm looking for?
Zoffinger is going to throw the pedal drive out and put a 6 hp johnson amidships and cruise the river. And make it "factory" sweet. The Pelican Catch 130 is now on my wish list.
Like the idea of the rudder cables on the outside. My hobie broke a cable and I was screwed. Having said that I wouldn’t trade my Hobie for this kayak. This kayak has zero rod and hatch storage. I use my front hatch all the time to store all kinds of things. You roll this kayak in the surf and say bye bye to everything
Omg.....im so glad to see it will be released soon.....Hobie is an awesome boat but it's to much money....cant wait till Jan to get one...Thanks for the info
Totally going to wait for this to come out in Jan. I am actually using a Pelican paddle boat....like.. the side by side... About a 300lb setup I put together that I run around and in the market for a kayak. I decided that I want a pedal system but the $3000+ price ranges has me wondering if I should just drop that kind of money on a john, trailer, etc. I have seen for under that.... This hits a price range that makes it worth it to me.
I fish out of a bounty 100x and ever since I first got it out on the water I've always wanted to upgrade. Don't get me wrong I love my kayak but a pedal drive would be amazing. I think if I was out on the ocean I'd absolutely get a Hobia but I don't live near an ocean so I'm leaning more towards the Pelican catch 130. Awesome video Robert 🎣👊🍻 Can't wait to see you in Montana. I still think you should make a shirt that says "She took my fish grips!!!" That white sturgin was insane bro👊
This by far was the best walk through of the kayak. Other channels seemed to have sped through explaining the details. Good stuff. Also didn't know that about the Hobie patent. So does this mean other companies can incorporate the mirage drive?
That's because of the patent they had. Pedal kayaks will keep getting cheaper now. If hobie keeps their high prices they won't be able to compete. Hobie makes great kayaks but they aren't that special besides the pedal drive - very ugly and boring designs for fishing in my opinion. I like feel frees kayaks the best.
Hey Robert, Just a video idea (I really want to see it too) Make a kayak tour of your own 2018 kayak. I just got a wilderness ride x 130 and fully decked it out so I would want to see yours compared to mine, and see if mine can go for some more unique upgrades that yours may have. :)
Oh, shoot! I forgot about those yeah ill have to brush up my knowledge and go check them out and dhow you rig your kayak for recording because I just started a mini-channel myself and am hoping to take out my kayak with my GoPro. And I may or may not have a very similiar chair to yours.
Marty is an awesome dude great attitude and fun to watch . Seriously if you are into Kayak fishing ya have to watch him. Great review and you got a new subscriber =) on to your other vids
Definitely skeptical but it looks cool but in my opinion if I’m gonna spend the money I would go with the outback but would still love to give the catch a try
Beautiful boat. Would be proud to own something that nice some day. Looks like they really took a lot of time in making this boat the perfect fishing boat.
Before you drop $ 1500 on this take look at the Kaku Wahoo 12.5 and the 10.5, these are solid fishing machines at a very good price, no pedal drive, they paddle easy, track straight and are fast, add an electric trolling motor and you have very stable and complete fishing platform.
Since I added a bow mounted foot controlled trolling motor, I paddle very little, also added a outrigger/ pontoon from Expandacraft, the wahaoo was very stable before, but now its like a cadillac.
I shore fish with a backpack, a tackle box, and my rods of course. I don't need all the bells and whistles when I can get this at this price point. Wish it was coming out sooner.
I don’t see why the Mirage wouldn’t fit. I’m not sure on the weight, and that’s usually the last thing for a company to nail down when working towards a final production model
Very nice addition to pelican, price point comparison to others-great, reverse could be issue if you hang a 80lb + sailfish or comparable. Oh well, can't have your cake with ice cream all the time. Should be a really good sale for Pelican. I would buy it, $1500 ain't bad, you can buy a Lexus or a Camry which ever you want!
I got to say, I was strongly considering the native watercraft slayer 12 (no pedal drive) but this boat has similar wells in both the front and back of the boat I like. And now with the hobie style pedal drive?! I am now leaning on pelican. I will do more research by these look like a better option
Hey Rob, I would really like to hear your thoughts and feelings about the the pros and cons and vs on hobie style drives and prop drives. I have a feelfree lure that I love and am considering getting the overdrive for, but at 1200 bucks it's worth considering a whole new boat! If you had time to make a video or even a post I think we'd all appreciate it as you have a lot more experience and time with these boats. No one wants to make an expensive wrong purchase! Haha. Thank you and keep up the great content man.
Kostaki Gogos I too have a Lure 11.5 and want the overdrive. But for the price of that, I can have this whole new yak instead. I'm seriously considering selling it for this when it comes out. We will see what happens when they start hitting the water.
Hey Robert, I'm super interested in a peddle drive kayak, but don't want my first one to be so expensive. I fell in love with this upon viewing it, but can't find a retailer ANYWHERE in California with the 110HDII and the 130HDII that just came out this year. HOW DO I GET ONE?!
First real look at the whole profile of the kayak. Should be interesting to see how it makes out as people use it. The finish looks a little like an old naugahyde couch though :) Robert, will you be doing a review of the new Riot Mako? That one has my interest, much sleeker design and even cheaper than the Pelican pedal kayak, also very high weight capacity as well. Nice review!
I glanced at it and decided to not do a walkthrough. It looks very cheap. You get what you pay for. I doubt that thing will hold up over very much time. But I could be wrong!
Do you know if any of the hobie drives can be fit into the same spot? Say if you bought a hobie drive with the reverse option, and put it into the catch 130HD?
Since the part where the drive locks down is an insert, they should offer a version that has a simple, non proprietary trolling motor mount there. They would crush the market with that. If they don't someone else will.
I noticed the axel going across the middle that fastens into the boat is metal. I have seen a couple of videos where the Hobie models had plastic “pins” that attached into the kayak and they broke. All 3 videos were models with reverse. Hopefully Hobie fixed this, if not that’s going to be much stronger there on the Pelican. I see several comments where people don’t take a paddle with them on their peddle drive kayaks. That’s crazy unless the lakes are very small and warm. If you Dave to swim and drag your kayak to shore because the drive has failed, welllll why? Really. If you are on a big lake or in the ocean, nice knowing ya! Probably not, but you are going to be a giant pain the a** while your buddy or buddies tow you in, or have to go without a paddle because you didn’t have any forethought. A nicer way to get into the peddle kayak market financially!
Glad Hobie will have some competition now that their drive patent has expired. Love my rev 13, but the $2600 tag was absurd. Would not consider a yak without reverse though.
I had the same thoughts man. My reverse drive is currently sitting in my trailer broken two different ways, and I’m using my old faithful original drive from 2014 instead.
Thank you EliasVFishing. I thought I was the only one. My kayak doesn't even have pedals. Reverse for me means sticking my paddle in the water. Never had and issue with this method.
What issues are you having with the reverse drives? I’m curious to know as mine is 6 months old and rode hard. Can’t the older drives be flipped for reverse?
Reverse is for people with poor planning skills.
Yeah, it looks like a solid value. No reverse anytime soon. Hobie’s patent on the 180 drive doesn’t expire until 2036.
There's a vid by
Beyond The Bounds where he compares a Hobie with the Mirage 180 Drive and a Native Watercraft Slayer with Propel drive. He seems to give a balanced overview. This is a great review. Your Pelican Catch 120 review convinced me to by a Catch series kayak and I've been 100% happy with my decision. I will definitely be keeping this one on my radar when I get ready to upgrade to a pedal drive down the road
Seems like a good value
It’s about time someone made an affordable one the first hobie I bought cost 3,800 this is a steal at that price thanks guys
Well it’s about time because the patent just expired. Nobody was allowed to use this technology until now. Exciting stuff
Two legends right there 😁
He’s the real deal man. Even cooler in real life than in his videos.
thats right :) can't wait for his kayak business to open
Agree!!!
dude I saw that kayak while I was there, I MUST try it out soon
Pretty slick
Whats the weight copacity
These two guys inspired me to really pursue Kayak Fishing and UA-cam... both awesome channels.
Marty is the man!!
CMonsta Subbed. Lets see what you got!
Thanks. Wasn't trying to "fish" for subs -- but if you're subbed make sure you register for the Bass Pro Giveaway only a few days left. (Sorry for inadvertently hijacking your post Robert).
CMonsta I know you weren't, I'm all about supporting up and comers. I see this as a community brother. Us fishermen have to stick together!
Hell yea! Two of my favorite UA-cam stars! Love you guys! That Pelican is on hit! Gonna have to scoop one up in January!..
Marty is the man!
Robert Field Yes he is! But so are you bro! Your alil more extreme! In my opinion... Field trips Baby! Shout me out one day bro! I love your channel!
Man that’s exciting. May have to check those out for the shop.
Looks like it could be a solid value

Nice nice, Pelican makes some solid, cheap options
Great review. Love Marty & his channel. Very humble guy. Hope to meet you both one day. This kayak is on my bucket list!
Marty’s the man!
Those old side by side pedal boats were awesome for creeping all g the lily pads for bass.
Totally
I want this boat. And I've been wanting you and Marty to do a collaboration for a while now. Two of my favorite UA-camrs!
Marty’s the man!! We’re planning a fishing trip for the fall
Ya definitely need a colab with Marty. You guys are the shizzle.
Wow thats a really nicely priced kayak, thanks for sharing this, also thanks to Marty as well more power to you guys 👍🏽
Marty’s the man!
This is the second fin-style pedal drive (non-Hobie) review I've seen on your channel and all I can say is YES! One of the only features this boat seems to lack that Hobies do have is the horizontal rod storage in the hull. Correct me if I'm wrong. Very nice when you're under low cover.
That’s one thing. It also doesn’t have reverse. There are more differences in terms of materials and features. Seems like a solid value though

Weird
I think limited quantity is out in the US. Please do a review, especially on saltwater.
I second the review. I'm very close to getting one too but I would like to see a practical review instead of a pond demo.
West Marine Tracy’s Landing MD.

I did a review on the Catch 120, I was impressed. Great boat for the price
This would be a great lake kayak. Definitely going to look into this. Thank you guys for the review. I still love my pa14 with no reverse. 😊
Haha yeah the reverse isn’t a huge deal
Robert, I always look forward to your icast content. More walk throughs and product reviews coming from I cast I hope?
Yes sir!! Another one tonight and more on the way
I just might have to consider buying one now. Really nice looking yak.
Looks like a solid value

Pedal drive kayaks are going to be much cheaper going forward. No more 3-6k$ BS
I agree, I think they’ll all start going down a bit
Robert Field, this is good news even for die hard Hobie yakkers. Can’t wait to see a side by side comparison.
This didn’t age well.... I.e. mirage 360 😂
@@theclamhammer4447 yep hobie had it planned out. Once patent runs out give them the new 360 design and another 20 year patent.
thank you for this info robert i live in egypt and do kayak fishing.

Nice video, thanks Rob.

I really like Marty. This is a great inroad to this sport. I see them on sale now for $1199. Awesome. This week I will get one.
The drive got recalled but they may have fixed it already.
I like the hidden beer in 2’30’’!
Hahah that was Marty’s, good eye
I would like a kayak that I can paddle in skinny water but still use for pedaling nearshore fishing. Do you think this would be close to what I'm looking for?
Possibly. Can’t say until I get it on the water and see how it performs.
Awesome video and break down as always! Hope we get to see your thoughts on the new old town pedal kayak as it looks super interesting.
Oh yeah it’s comin up!
Zoffinger is going to throw the pedal drive out and put a 6 hp johnson amidships and cruise the river. And make it "factory" sweet. The Pelican Catch 130 is now on my wish list.
Haha nice
Like the idea of the rudder cables on the outside. My hobie broke a cable and I was screwed. Having said that I wouldn’t trade my Hobie for this kayak. This kayak has zero rod and hatch storage. I use my front hatch all the time to store all kinds of things. You roll this kayak in the surf and say bye bye to everything
I don’t think anyone would trade a $2,500 anything for a $1,500 anything. It certainly has less features, as should expected with this price tag.
Yeah, it’s exciting to see them all coming down in price
Is the position of the seat back adjustable, as in can you lean it back more and or less? Big bellys need to lean back more than flat bellys.
I’m first time buyer and looking for a good Kanau and was wondering what the difference is between fin power and Propeller on a Kanau
I think the fin style is more efficient
I think I just found my first pedal-drive kayak.
Looks like a good value
me too!
Me three
I fish out of a bounty 100x and ever since I first got it out on the water I've always wanted to upgrade.
Hahahaha that was a moment I will NEVER forget! Will take me a bit to get to Montana but I’m on my way!!
Hi..I wish that kayak if could be available in Fiji because it suits our weather and our tropical island 💯💯💯
Love to see Marty , doing a great job 😀
Love that guy
Will Pelican sell their drive separately and can it be interchanged into current Hobies?
I’m not positive. I would think so.
I'm liking it, would make a good addition with my 2017 ocean kayak trident 13 angler
The Trident is a sweet yak!
Robert Field you got one? Or used the newer ones? I love mine
This by far was the best walk through of the kayak. Other channels seemed to have sped through explaining the details. Good stuff. Also didn't know that about the Hobie patent. So does this mean other companies can incorporate the mirage drive?
Correct. It’s free market now. Thanks for the kind words and glad you found it helpful.
Good on ya Pelican. $1400 is much more reasonable than what Hobie is asking.
$1,499 but yeah
That's because of the patent they had. Pedal kayaks will keep getting cheaper now. If hobie keeps their high prices they won't be able to compete. Hobie makes great kayaks but they aren't that special besides the pedal drive - very ugly and boring designs for fishing in my opinion. I like feel frees kayaks the best.
Or an option to reverse the controls.
Is that hobbies first pedal. So wondering if the other pedals from hobbie will fit the pelican.
Don’t know but they’ll fit the new boat I just posted about, and it’s less expensive
Hey Robert, Just a video idea (I really want to see it too) Make a kayak tour of your own 2018 kayak. I just got a wilderness ride x 130 and fully decked it out so I would want to see yours compared to mine, and see if mine can go for some more unique upgrades that yours may have. :)
I just did a video on how I rig my Wilderness Radar 135 a couple months ago. Did you see that one?
Oh, shoot! I forgot about those yeah ill have to brush up my knowledge and go check them out and dhow you rig your kayak for recording because I just started a mini-channel myself and am hoping to take out my kayak with my GoPro. And I may or may not have a very similiar chair to yours.
im a bigger guy.. can u tell me what's the max wgt. of one of these.. i weigh 322lb. .. will this rig work or will i have to go with a bigger setup?
Google it and you can find the capacity
The Catch 130HD has a 425 lb max capacity :)
Marty is an awesome dude great attitude and fun to watch . Seriously if you are into Kayak fishing ya have to watch him. Great review and you got a new subscriber =) on to your other vids
Marty’s the mann
Well, I'm hoping the Canadian price is pretty good as well. Thanks Robert for the low down. Shawn.
It will probably be a bit higher, I think that’s usually the case?
I keep forgetting that the $1,499.00 is us dollars, so for canada that's going to put it at a price of around $1,900 to $2,000 range.
Definitely skeptical but it looks cool but in my opinion if I’m gonna spend the money I would go with the outback but would still love to give the catch a try
Yeah man, jury’s out til I get it on the water but it could be a solid value
correct me if I'm wrong, but theres no reverse correct? hobies pattent is still active as far as I know
Correct, their reverse drive is a separate patent that doesn’t expire until 2036 or so.
Beautiful boat. Would be proud to own something that nice some day. Looks like they really took a lot of time in making this boat the perfect fishing boat.
Announcing something else soon, too
Any idea when it will reach Australia, and how much it will be over here?
I don’t man. I’d look at Pelican’s dealer list to see where they have retailers in Aus
Nice! I love the new features
Looks pretty slick
Before you drop $ 1500 on this take look at the Kaku Wahoo 12.5 and the 10.5, these are solid fishing machines at a very good price, no pedal drive, they paddle easy, track straight and are fast, add an electric trolling motor and you have very stable and complete fishing platform.
The Kakus are solid yaks but apples to oranges since they’re paddle kayaks
Since I added a bow mounted foot controlled trolling motor, I paddle very little, also added a outrigger/ pontoon from Expandacraft, the wahaoo was very stable before, but now its like a cadillac.
Nice, I definitely gotta get one.
How strong are those rod holders? My area has 50 lb blue catfish.
I can’t say man, I obviously didn’t get to fish out of it in the trade show. They should be fine as long as you set your drag right.

4:18 brook Crist and Vic from land shark fishing spotted!
Love Vic, I did an episode with him back in February
Robert Field I’m a big fan of you both keep it coming man 👍
Great looking Yak and review!! #YouTheManRobert!!
I shore fish with a backpack, a tackle box, and my rods of course. I don't need all the bells and whistles when I can get this at this price point. Wish it was coming out sooner.
Announcing something else soon, too
Ohh..the patent expired. That was my first question. My second is...can you throw in a mirage drive and have it work? And what is the fitted weight?
Got another killer option I’ll be announcing soon
Hey Rob, I would really like to hear your thoughts and feelings about the the pros and cons and vs on hobie style drives and prop drives. I have a feelfree lure that I love and am considering getting the overdrive for, but at 1200 bucks it's worth considering a whole new boat! If you had time to make a video or even a post I think we'd all appreciate it as you have a lot more experience and time with these boats. No one wants to make an expensive wrong purchase! Haha. Thank you and keep up the great content man.
Here’s the abridged version of my opinion: the fin style drive is faster and more efficient. The prop drives are easier to reverse with.
Robert Field - For speed, are you talking the longer turbo fins, or V1 mirage drive like this has?
Kostaki Gogos I too have a Lure 11.5 and want the overdrive. But for the price of that, I can have this whole new yak instead.
I'm seriously considering selling it for this when it comes out. We will see what happens when they start hitting the water.
Like he said, Pelican knocked it out of the box, guess that means they have a way to go to get it out of the park.
But I could be wrong!
id go with the perception pilot. all the pelicans seem like bottom is super thin plastic. pilot same price range
Many consider the fin style drive significantly superior to the propellor style, myself included.
And the Pilot is $300 more.
was at local sports store fore 1300 so figured pry around 1500 new. still buy it for 300 more
Do you know if any of the hobie drives can be fit into the same spot? Say if you bought a hobie drive with the reverse option, and put it into the catch 130HD?
I believe it would fit.
Robert Field thanks for the reply! Awesome vids man!
Hey Marty can we use the hobie electric drive
But is it good to go offshore with it ?
I know you got your own thing going on with the Lightning Strike, but I'd love to see you review this boat if you get a chance.
I probably won’t to be honest. I’m sure there will be plenty of reviews once it’s out tho
@@YakFishField Got to see it in person yesterday, seems solid.
This will dominate the market, Record sale for sure!
damn this video got my hyped up. love zoff, love that yak. lets go summer 2020
Since the part where the drive locks down is an insert, they should offer a version that has a simple, non proprietary trolling motor mount there. They would crush the market with that. If they don't someone else will.
Don Anderson that’s a great idea
Check out lightningkayaks.com for a better option
No fish finder mount ?
Nope
Can it pedal in reverse? If not, it's a non starter.
Hobie’s patent on the reverse drive doesn’t expire until 2036
Glad Hobie will have some competition now that their drive patent has expired. Love my rev 13, but the $2600 tag was absurd. Would not consider a yak without reverse though.
They still have the patent on the reverse, so you’ll be stickin with Hobie.
Wal-Mart and Academy are gonna jump on this too! And make it even more affordable. 🤣🤣
Maybe so
are these boats made in the US? looks like a nice kayak and definitely shopping for one
I believe they’re in Canada
@@YakFishField ok
I am on the fence between this and the new cheaper hobie passport for a 1st kayak
Thanks for the info and vid
Is there a built in transducer mount?
I don’t believe so
Pretty sure this will be my first kayak!
Looks pretty slick. I know of another great option coming out in a couple months. Stay tuned for an announcement!
Any idea what the weight of the kayak is?
That’s usually the last thing figured out with new kayaks. Not sure yet
Does this kayak go in reverse?
No
WHERE DO I GO TO GET ONE???? I LIVE IN NORTHERN KY AND LOVE TO HAVE ONE BUT WHERE DO I GO TO GET ONE..???
They don’t come out until January. You can find a list of dealers on their website.
you can pre-order from Zoffingers web site.
