This performance has ended up costing me...3 albums and a concert...thanks KEXP!! I'm broke but happy
Hania Rani, Olafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm are in a league of their own. Every single performance is mind blowing.
Yes yes yes 🤍
True ;)
They're all awesome. Hania Rani has released on Gondwana Records: Gondwana's founder, Matthew Halsall, does some beautiful jazz - probably Salute to the Sun Live @ Halle St Peter's my first recommendation. Closer to Hania Rani/Nils Frahm/etc, you might enjoy Hauschka's Prepared Piano, Lambert is lovely, ... few others.
Any suggestions from your side?
@@andrewthomas-woolf6150 Thanks mate, didn't know that. Ludovico Enaudi is a legend you should check out if haven't already. And I see that you're a Jazz lover so Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah has some amazing performances you should check out - the best one is the Jazz Night in America.
Svaneborg Kardyb too
This just randomly popped up, I'd never heard of Hania Rani. I'll be listening to her a lot in future!
Thanks, UA-cam algorithm.
I got totally immersed in these sounds. There is hope in the world if young people create this kind of music.
There is hope in this world as long as people accept Jesus Christ in their lives and treat others as they wish to be treated.
@@Dooblecainei lose hope when i hear people still believing in a hypotetical man in the sky in this age. Do you understand that religion was the cause for most conflict and loss of life in the history of the world? Just do the right thing, you dont need to have a role model for it. If everybody has a role model then they fight over it.
hope dies last ;)
I survived an undergraduate program in Psychology thanks to Brian Eno-Jon Hassell's "Fourth World."
Only if we put musicians in charge. Love, hope and beauty is NOT winning versus greed, prejudice and brutality.
I saw her in Toronto, the day before this performance. It was INSANE. Best concert ever. It took place in an adjacent building owned by a local church. Poor ventilation. Ticket was only $20. She received several standing ovations. She was amazing.
Same in Warsaw: triple bis and all standing ovations. It was the best.
Today is an amazing time to be a committed and talented artist who doesn't compromise on a vision. We are blessed and truly lucky to be alive as creative people with what is available to us. This is amazing...so glad I clicked on her. The sonic sound scape is enchanting from the get go!
@@jedimindtrix2142 I agree with you 100%. I was just telling my wife that if one is looking for some of the most creative talented true ARTIST in music. One should find all the listener-supported radio stations and listen to them you will find that good raw talent
@@danielhillwick5276 here in the Dayton, Ohio area we have 91.3 WYSO out of Yellow Springs. Where Dave Chapelle lives...right up the highway. Super awesome hippy town. Beautiful hiking and an amazing little community. It was originally built as one of the original commune type villages back in the early 1900s or late 1800s I believe. Tons of amazing music these days all over the place. Now that people have the ability to market direct to the ears of people online has made today unlike any other in the business before it. The biggest change though has come from the huge interest in home recording and production. I started to learn music production back in 2009 and it chaned my entire musical life. I went from being a guitarist to a music producer, able to not only play guitar but other instruments and also to the backend technical work on mixing and mastering. The amount of money and time it saves the average musician to be able to do themselves these days is ridiculous. It makes entire albums that otherwise wouldn't see the light of day happen. Recording studio time is super expensive and there are benefits to recording in a full on equipped professional studio. However that's not realistic for a lot of people when they are first getting their vision together. I would never want to go back to days of studio and label executives holding the keys to the airwaves again.
Never heard of her; don't know why. Thanks KEXP! This is just amazing. There is so much good music being made in the world right now, but it takes some digging to find it. If only people knew there was more to life than Taylor Swift or Kanye West.
You haven't heard of her because she is a Polish artist, and world music is dominated by singers from the US whether they represent anything or not.
@@raindeer8064 but he found her
if you like this/her, please look up Nils Frahm - Tripping with nils (live album).
Also for me it's very strange to "find" great artist on a foreign radio station channel. This is pure masterpiece.
I actually had to look up Kanye West. Heard his name before, but had no clue who he is. 😂
Edit: Holy cow, just saw his interview with Alex Jones -this guy has lost it. 🤣
Wow! It's like her fingers become part of the keys so beautifully 🔥💝
I had given up on todays music. This woman is beyond brilliant....unbelievable

This is the original video that made me discover Hania's work. I can't thank KEXP enough for this. Since then, I became a total fan of what she does, and this ability she has to create a universe in only a few seconds. Saw her twice in 2023, unforgettable experiences... And can't wait to attend her concert in the end of this year. Hania is the reason why I started to play piano, I have a boundless gratitude to her for this.

@@chimsky5230 Thanks for increasing the visibility!
Did she release the first song on Spotify?
Thanns
On the album "Ghosts" the track is titled "Dancing With Ghosts", for people trying to find the same track.
I guess right now she is becoming the biggest Polish name in music since Komeda. The Polish media still barely have a clue how big it is and I wish her it remained like this for a while, no tabloid buzz around needed. It's great she didn't lock herself in the world of classical music but instead was bold enough to go beyond, into the unknown. This is what differs an artist with great performing skills from a breakthrough artist. Gratulacje, Hania!
Of course no one has ever heard of Chopin. Imagine what he would have done given this technology. He died so young. She is truly awesome and is a talent beyond mere mortals. Chopin was a superstar of his era. Purely talent based.

Holy shit it's been so long since I last got mind blown by new music, synth gods would be proud of her, such a creative way of using the arpeggiator it's awesome
Hania Rani is a brilliant musician, she just creates magic.

A perfect combination of classical, ambient, and improvised music. She manifested music I dream about.

Aren't we blessed to live in times of such great artists, Hania being one of them? At least, I feel blessed.
You're so right. I'm 45 and I get annoyed at my contemporaries who say "there's no good music any more". There's loads of great music being produced right now. I love discovering a new talent that I've never heard of. I love her work, she's incredible.

For sure intros based on old school :Tangerine Dream & Klaus Schultze but she is performing something above any expectation to human sense of hearing . She`s true genius. I`m so proud of my polish sister.
Buka is a lofi copy of Ulrich Schnauss (Tangerine Dream) song 'Good Bye'... it's sad nobody has noticed this rip off.

Hania Rani, you leave me speechless. Hats off to you! Dark days? Of delusion? Yes

She is phenomenal
There is a kind of magnetism in Hania's music, even if you have something to do, you don't want to move, you just want to stay here, earphone's on, enjoying the magic. Thanks
I came to my studio to record this morning, and this popped up in my UA-cam feed. I had never heard of her. You are 100% correct...I pushed play and couldn't move until it was all over. Sublime.
I love how she explores just what is possible in terms of dynamics and harmony ! Her approach is almost like that of a classical musician playing chamber music. It's as if synthesizers and electroacoustic effects had been around for so long that they are now used like a violin or a cello.
Actually, she is classically trained (Music School Feliks Nowowiejski in Gdańsk and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music), then moved to jazz, house, and what she is doing now can perhaps be called "Neo-classical"!!!
I knew within five minutes of listening that this girl must have had a high GPA.

We want dark, scandinavian-like synth/piano composer that takes what is best from Olafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Max Richter, and classics like Philip Glass at home.
What we have at home:
Hania Rani, new Polish National Treasure! Absolute Masterpiece!
Way better than Olafur Arnalds who is good but way more monotonous.
Yep
I didn't know this girl or her talent, I'm glad she came out in recommendations!!
She is a GENIUS, just saw her live in Amsterdam last week, such a beautiful classic trip!
Just discovered her music. Hope she will be back soon.
J. S. Bach and Vangelis are surely looking down upon this with amazement and approval. Thank you, Hania, and KEXP for a FANTASTIC performance, and special kudos to the sound engineers for doing justice to this.
Greetings from South Africa.
Add Klaus Schultze and Peter Namlook. Her musical ‘ancestry’ is absolutely awesome.
JMJ influence is undeniable as well :)
No offense, but I would certainly leave Bach out of that. He would have been bored to death by the lack of counterpoint and the harmonic simplicity. I agree with you on vangelis maybe, and some of the other names others have mentioned perhaps. The other names were pretty much doing this stuff in the 1970s with much more primitive equipment.
Glass and Reich are perhaps more obvious influences.

Wow, her flying hands on the piano. Incredible. 🙏🏽
I have to agree with the positive comments. I find her instrumental music to be ethereal and super calming.
I discovered Hania a bit over a year ago. You know, that black&white video in a concert hall. A concert hall across the street from where I live. Seeing her doing a live gig at KEXP, performing at les invalides, all over the world, seems unreal. But on the other hand, from the moment I heard the first notes of her music I was hoping for it to happen. She is a league of her own. Her music is a space of its own. I'm glad you're sharing her talent with the world. It's well worth it.
She came in white t-shirt and jeans and SMASHed it! What a great performance! Przyszla cala na bialo i ROZWALILA system... cudo, Haniu, cudo!
I was working with this on in the background, and I TOTALLY forgot it was someone playing live. I thought it was fully electronic, and definitely pre-recorded. Just mind-blowing

Hello world. Hello Hania. Greetings from Gdynia. Astonishing music and atmosphere. You are truth and Polish soil. This times are so tough for us and I become calm thanks to what I can hear. Magic
I'm crying of joy listening to this masterpiece...
As wonderful as her keyboard skills are, I'm equally impressed with how well she knows her way around an analog synth panel. She "played" the filters/resonance as an instrument in their own right, and knew how to time the arpeggiator changes perfectly. As an old MiniMoog-thru-Prophet guy - well done!
I loved it everytime when she quickly turned away from the piano to enter the new notes to the sequence
well yeah practice
And huge talent!
Totally agree--she is very talented. I just wish synthesizers didn't have sequencers. I've built synthesizers for years, and I've come to realize that I only like them when they are played, not sequenced. Most guitar players feel the same about the guitar. Looping is different. It's just that a circuit will never be able to channel the same feeling into rhythm that a human can
@@mississippijohnfahey7175 I hear yah. The rigidity of timing and expression that often comes with machine performed sequences can make apparent a lack of human touch.
First time for me to listen to KEXP, first time to listen to Hania Rani too. Although i am married to a Polish wife I am always surprised about the richness of the Polish music scene. There are so many talented musicians (of course not only in Poland). Thanks a lot for bringing me this music into my heart, best greetings from Westfalia in Germany
