Here is a problem: The chaos energy canonically existent in the Sonic universe. With the number of times Sonic has interacted with the forces of chaos, he has literally become a being of chaos. So, when he time travels, it is likely the negative mass would be protected and contained with the chaos energy, allowing him to interact with the past without the risk of annihilating himself.
i would say that it is safe to assume that in every other instance he travels through time the same way described here, with the chaos emeralds just being a more straightforward and accesible way to do it for him and others. I mean, shadow uses chaos control, which would need to put him at near light speeds to work the way it is shown, so it checks out in my book.

Indeed, that plotline was retconned in Sonic Forces. Which greatly implies that 2D Sonic is a seperate timeline entirely. i would say that it is safe to assume that in every other instance he travels through time the same way described here, with the chaos emeralds just being a more straightforward and accesible way to do it for him and others. Wow you really didn't pay attention in any physics class did you. Weight is literally Mass×Gravity, so mass has everything to do with weight, because without mass there is no weight. 0 mass multiplied by any gravity equals 0 weight.
Larper64 exactly, and negative mass means negative weight, so sonic would be repelled by Earth’s gravity. But the real problem for him is that he will get destroyed by all the normal mass around him. I don’t see why Mat thought only the original sonic’s matter would be the problem. Pretty much everything on Earth would be just as bad.

If we use this theory for sonic’s speed then I would say that he probably is faster.
