  • "Stay awesome."
    EDIT: I seriously can't thank you guys enough for this. This vid has been really special to me (and will always be) so I'm really grateful for its achievement all thanks to you.
    Big thanks to ~Shounen-Hime for creating this wonderful nyotalia fanart.
    Check it out: shounen-hime.de...

    Deep beneath that obnoxious and narcissistic personality, I find Prussia to be such a fascinating and (surprisingly) complex character to portray. And for that, I tried to present a story about him. Because he is, IMO, all too human with a (his)story worth telling to everyone.
    Now remember, this is HETALIA! so lighten up and enjoy the show.
    BGM: Last of the Wilds by Nightwish (audio slightly tuned down due to copyright)
    DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT own the music and pictures in this video. All pics used can be found on dA, tumblr, zerochan, photobucket, pixiv, and tegaki.

    I always imagined that went Prussia died, Germany was leaning over him and Prussia said "Hey west, stay awesome for me." and then I stopped imagining and started crying.

      look up this guy rano his tribute to Prussia is a epic 3 part hand drawn and colored animation of Prussias life. First part is I want may tears back, second part is Goodbye glory and there is a third and final part he could not find a English song for. Its less then a year old for all 3 parts and there just amazing. The second part is the most moving till you get to the end of part 3

    I can't help but think that those last words "Stay awesome" are his way of saying: "Keep the great empire of Prussia in your memory, even if I'm no longer here."
    That's why I feel a slight hope at the end, like one day there will be a place that they can call themselves Prussian once again.

      Well I don't know for sure, but I did some research on the topic of Prussia becoming a country again. Where I looked, it said that it has been brought up in some meetings but has never formally been discussed.
      Now I'm still not sure if it's true or not, feel free to do some research too, but it would be truly awesome if it was.

      Yeah, but it would crazy to assume it is anywhere close to living up to the actual Prussia (and I mean the actual nation, not the Hetalia character)
      wistful thinking but not even close :/

      True, although I'm hesitant to believe in this micronation. I wish for more evidence than just micronations.wiki XD
      And actually about that "New Prussia" town in Canada, there were and there are a lot of towns in North America named after German towns, etc. It's quite common, the German influence is very signficant! So a town named New Prussia isn't something I would consider unusual. It was probably renamed after WWII

    I think every Hetalia character has a deeper story to tell than the anime, manga, and parts of the fandom lead on (Come on now, they are countries with history and EMOTION) But I've always felt that Prussia's was a special case. He's not gone like the ancients, tucked away neeatly into nostalgic bliss. But he no longer carries the power, responsibilities, of a full fledged nation any longer. He was born a warrior, and refuses to go down. Life for all of his friends and family moves forward and he does so only vicariously through others, like Germany. What you have here really is a masterpiece. I don't think there are any written words to tell this story as well as you have, except for the last phrase. 'Stay Awesome.' Very well done indeed.

    After I watched Hetalia for the first time, I asked my mother who Prussia was.
    She responded
    "It used to be an empire that was dissolved soon after WWII."
    I asked for more info. She had none.
    We need to teach our children about Prussia.
    His history must not be forgotten.
    I don't see why we wouldn't learn about him. He seems to be at least a mid-to-high-level needed piece in the second World War.
    I have German in me so I wonder of I have Prussian. I should ask.

    ((Dear Lord, I am SO sorry for all the comments! Anyway! I'm going through an obsession with Prussia, and last week I got the book "A History Of Prussia" by H.W. Koch. I thought it was just some history book in the form (the look of it and all) of a normal book. SO when I wanted to know about the 1947 dissolution of Prussia, I skipped to the end yesterday. I'm not even through with the first chapter (shame on me... I wish I had more time to read it...), but I went to the last chapter and read the end of the chapter. I nearly cried. No, it wasn't because I was thinking of the Hetalia Prussia being dissolved, but the end of the book was so.... ugh! I don't know! The author was of Prussian descent, and well, the end was emotional, yet factual. Hard to explain. This AMV is truly amazing in every way! Thank you so much for it!))

    • @somaticjester
      @somaticjester  10 років тому +17

      Hey don't worry, you're fine.^^ Your comment is pretty decent actually. Well, I agree that Prussian history is fascinating and quite heart-breaking to say the least. I remembered doing a bit of research when making this amv and tbh, my heart broke a little after I learned about the details of the aftermath. But time goes on, they say. And scars, although not forgotten, will heal eventually. It amazes me how much I've learned about Prussia just by reading others' comments here.
      And you're welcome. ;)

    • @xkenziebrunswick143x
      @xkenziebrunswick143x 10 років тому +14

      ((The author said something along the lines of there "being emotions for Prussia to this day, and that as time goes on, those emotions will fade with each generation until Prussia is nothing more than a complete part of the past." I don't remember exactly, and the book is literally RIGHT next to me, but I don't want to reread the end until I actually get to it. But he ended the book with a quote from Shakespeare (I'm pretty sure it was Shakespeare...), and that was that, except for the maps and "family trees" and an index. When I read it yesterday, I just kinda sat there, staring up at my computer (at nothing really) just thinking "wow..." and nearly in tears. I wouldn't have read the last chapter so soon if it wasn't for my stupidity and writing of a fanfiction about it... sorry for this being so long... heh))

      Morrigan☆ My grandfather was born in Prussia and fled to Germany during WW2. Later, he moved to Switzerland. He told me the story many times. Sadly, my cousins aren't interested in History at all and think that our roots are simply german. But my grandpa is glad that at least I show interest in the real story :)

    • @xxMiraclesMay
      @xxMiraclesMay 8 років тому +3

      Lyras Otaku Mine was also born in Prussia. He's dead now, so I never really had much time to really ask him about it, but he eventually moved to the US where he met my grandmother who's half Italian. They had my mother, which in return, had me. People say that when I say I'm about a quarter Prussian, they say it's German. =/ I guess those who don't really care about the history just don't really understand how much it really means to those of us who do.
      To be something that no longer exists. We are... well, to bluntly put, the last of our kind.

    • @lyrasotaku1573
      @lyrasotaku1573 8 років тому +3

      Morrigan☆ The last of our kind... That sounds nice but also very sad. I recently asked my history teacher if we could learn something about Prussia but all of my classmates were against it because they thought Prussia was "irrelevant". Really sad. Interesting enough, some people think that my roots are actually polish because my ancestors lived in Danzig, which today, is part of Poland. But back then, it was of course Prussian. About a week ago I visited my grandparents and we talked about history, then my grandma mentioned my "german" roots and my grandpa and me went like: "PRUSSIAN, not german!" Then we smiled at each other and laughed :)

    • @xxMiraclesMay
      @xxMiraclesMay 8 років тому +2

      Lyras Otaku That sounds really sweet! I wish I could have talked to my grandfather a bit more about our roots, but he died when I was just short of 11. About a week and a half just before my birthday, too. *sigh*
      At least it's nice to know that we aren't alone out there. It'd be kind of nice if I could find a man who has Prussian blood in him as well so we can keep it alive a bit longer. Haha

    I don't know why, but ever since I heard about the dissolution I couldn't help but imagine this head cannon in my head:
    Prussia is still around but has been feeling sick without telling anyone.
    He meets a girl that he genuinely falls for (human girl) after deciding to help her become "awesome" since she didn't like herself
    stuff happens and they get in an accident and Prussia, who had been wondering if he could be human and be with her, dies as well/disappears
    Only England knows what's been going on since Prussia had come to him to talk about the girl and eventually spilled about everything else to him
    He went to England at first because he knew nobody really liked the Brit or (vocally) saw him as a friend. but he also knew that the Brit could keep a secret and wanted to know if he could use magic to make him fully human.
    England says no, since someone would have to take his place/sacrifice is needed. but he casts a "spell" that he and the girl would be happy together.
    again, only England knows and one day a few years later due to a severe storm/earthquake/whatever natural (or unnatural) disaster several land asses pop up around the British Isles. Twin moons or Wish Isles maybe.
    He goes along with his brothers since they will no doubt fight over the land. but they relent when they see England's reaction to them.
    A little girl and a boy were found to be personifications of the mirroring opposite seasoned islands.
    the little girl, personification of the fall and Spring based island, looked exactly like the girl Prussia fell for. Long, wavy almost twisting messy Brown hair with blond and Auburn highlights with brown eyes with slightly (slightly) thick eyes.
    the little boy, personification of the winter and summer island, looked exactly like Prussia. with just slightly longer hair with a bit of fluff to it. of course with Gilberd.
    He keeps it a secret since he knows there will be a fight over Prussia when the rest see him and didn't want them to be separated again.
    The when they are strong enough it's like "I'm back bitches" since Prussia regained his memories but acts like he doesn't since he feels like pranking everyone and making them suffer a bit. He felt vengeful.
    He calls England "Bruder" (brother) and openly shows his love for the girl.
    As for the girl, lets go with either a self-insert or an OC named Cecelia or Ember/Isle of Sight. Because they believe in staying natural and in the old stories of myth and legend. Like England still sees (fairies,etc.)
    Prussia/Gilberts would be Gilbert/Blessed Isle since I imagine his people would be those still following the faith and religion of the Teutonic Knights he was originally based on.
    This is mine, I created and came up with it. If you can make an adequate fanfic: proper grammar, punctuation, word choice, pacing of the story, etc. then please do, but only if you plan on finishing it.
    Contact me for info since again it's mine, and I want credit and to beta it.

    Prussia's history ended when it was was abolished, or 'dissolved' as it was used in this video, in 1947. The Prussian Empire became a part of the many neighboring countries, and despite all this historical bullshit that I looked up a month ago wondering if Prussia is or had been a real country, thinking about what Germany would've thought when his older brother, that raised him, got dissolved, still makes me cry really hard.
    Suum cuique!! (The motto of the Prussian Empire, meaning 'To each his own', having been translated from the original Latin text.)

      I have Prussian blood as well! When I was little, my pawpaw would try to explain to me what Prussia was because his grandparents were from it, but all he could really explain was that it was a Germanic kingdom, but because of hetalia, I've been able to research so much about it! Prussia became my favorite character very quickly. I really hope to meet more people with Prussian blood just as I do. I really hope schools will talk about in history more here in the US. Especially considering the influence it had ON the US. But without hetalia, I never would've been able to research my heritage and see what Prussia left behind. And it is sad to see that Prussia is no longer a nation, so because of this, there are no longer people born with the blood. We truly are "The last or our kind"

    I know the odds of you seeing this are extremely low, but I just wanted to tell you that in the near decade of my being part of the Hetalia fandom, this is one of the few AMVs that stuck with me. You were one of the reasons I started to see Gil in an entirely different light, gradually leading him to be my favourite character of (thus far) any I've encountered. I had grown up kind of obsessed with Prussia; my ancestors immigrated to the US from the old country back in the mid 1880s, and just- I was super passionate through high school (knew so much that when it came time to talk about Modern European history my teacher kept smirking anytime Pruessen came up) and eventually college. When a friend in college introduced me to APH, and I finally met Gil, I-
    I hated him. So much. He was essentially the complete Opposite of what I expected. Anticipated. Hoped for.
    I remember I found this video on a whim, was just clicking through random videos while procrastinating on my Lab Report. And then- I'm not sure how, or why, but I was mesmorised from beginning to end with this one.
    I found so many fic ideas, branched off into a whole realm of historical Hetalia content, and slowly started to fall deeper and deeper. Read through all the comics I could find, sort of started a blog, sort of still update said blog-
    Anyway, rambling aside, I just wanted to let you know that I love this editing so much, and I hope that should you get a chance to read this comment, that you've no idea how grateful I am for you helping me truly learn to understand one of the most complex characters I've ever met. Thank you.

    prussia is the most awesome character of hetalia!
    he and russia have the most awesome fanartworks!
    his devotion and love like in 0:38 , 1:11 , 0:17 , 1:03 , 1:05, 1:11 1:12 , 2:07 , 2:19
    his madness, foolhardiness and defiance of death portayed in battle: 0:20 , 0:36 , 1:32 , 1:38 2:45
    his passion while performing all kinds of musical instruments with virtuosity: 0:13 , 3:36
    makes him stunning and fearsome...
    i'd rather not mess with him...
    too bad that the actual drawing style in the anime is soooo bad
    it would've been a paradise of bishonen...
    if anyone knows... where can i get the picture of 0:38 pleeeeaaaassseee

    Hetalia is the only show I know of where the fandom actually can draw you more into the show. (mind you stay away from the perv area of fandom) The fans who go and find all this history and the development in the world and use this to further explain the characters just draws you in. It really is a one of a kind experience.

    Still one of my top favorite tributes for Preußen on UA-cam to date, even if it’s been 10 years, it’s still phenomenal and beautiful.. 💙
