Nitro beer is filthy muck and will never pass my lips again. Why anyone thinks that brewing beer, then completely degassing it and replacing the carbon dioxide with nitrogen is a good idea is completely beyond me. I used to work in a pub selling the stuff on draught and it's a right pain to pour, especially if you only have one tap and somebody orders a large round of it.

Nitro stout is not muck and is loved all over the world same can’t be said of cask beer warm,flat and tasting like vinegar.

Good video idea, but you’ve compared it with the wrong Guinness. If you’ve got any cans of Forged left, you need to compare it with Guinness Draught. You can get hold of 4.2% ABV draught if you order it from Ireland, but Guinness are absolutely adamant that the 0.1% market-dependent difference does not make a difference.
In fact, that’s another good idea for a video. Compare the 4.1% with the 4.2% and see if you can taste a difference.
Forged being a nitro stout you should’ve compared it to the Guinness Draft can to be honest. Not a fair comparison otherwise

I'm a big fan of the Guinness west indies porter. That is an exceptional drink. 😋
I use to like Murphys stout in the cans but for some reason it has disappeared from the UK supermarkets. I found some in home bargains a while back nothing since anywhere though. Murphys had that creamy chocolate thing going on that I preferred over Guinness. Still, I do like a Guinness always a reliable one to enjoy especially the draught can version or on tap when there's nothing better.

I haven't seen Beamish stout in the UK for years.
The widget stouts remind me of those creamy ales that were everywhere back in the late 90s early 2000's. Some of them were very quaffable. And yes, sometimes that's all you want. What pisses me off about Guinness original is that it's lept in price. I bought the rather attractive bottles 😋 I'll try it in cans next.

Forged is brewed at Porterhouse. It's basically their Plain Porter rebranded.

@@hardrinker1989 Exactly. How does same ABV make it more fair than comparing the same beer and serving styles? It's like saying it's fair to compare a can of Forged with a 4.2% can of Hobgoblin Gold.
Plain porter is lovely, Oyster stout better, Chocolate stout heavenly but XXXX stout is nectar of god himself

As someone who has drank in the Black forge pub many times before McGregors time, the stout is not brewed on the premises but brewed in the Porterhouse Brewery in Glasnevin, Dublin.
Is it true he bought it?
@OscarOSullivan Ya, he owns 3 pubs now in Dublin now. Plus has his Proper 12 whiskey brand which alone is making him a fortune

Should be compared with Guinness draft . Guinness original is a totally different drink to Forged or Guinness draft.
A much better beer than either of those nitro beers too.

I feel the same about the Forged. I think if we are honest if a certain person wasn't involved it would be unlikely to have made it to the shelves of a national chain. It isn't bad, it just isn't good etiher. For me Black Heart pips both Guinness and Forged. Nice and easy drinking but also has a good depth of flavour.

Jet Black Heart and Black Heart are two different beers. Weird naming convention for sure. BH is literally just grain, hops, yeast and water so probably ok re hangover unless you go silly. Give it a go.@@broonbreed7193

Love your content but for me, on this review, it doesn't make a lot of sense comparing a nitro stout against an original stout as it's quite a different mouth feel between the two.
Guinness Foreign Extra is a gem, both my parents are Irish and neither had tried it until this year.
Never was a big seller in Ireland though it is now being brewed again in Ireland

Interesting to see the original Guinness is the best, I think Guinness is a very reliable beer, if I drink it in a pub I go to Wetherspoons being a chain, they seem to keep it to a good standard in all pubs.....its also £3.45 there rather than the £5-7 in other pubs!!

Im irish living in cork was out for a few Guinness lasted night as thats my pint, on my return home i decided to have one more and i have both Guinness and black forage in the fridge, i must say after drinking Guinness all night and to finish the night off with a black forage its so drinkable and when im having a few at home i find myself going for the black forage over the Guinness 😢
Do i think its missing something maybe but i will say its by far the most drinkable stout and probably the best entry level stout for anyone wanting to try a stout.

Guiness Original not tasted it for years . I rembervlunching at students Union every day and friend always had a bottle or two. Each day I said can I try it , no didn’t like , but then one night I dreamt I was drinking bottle after bottle . Next day I tried it and never looked back .
This was never brewed in the forge bar, porterhouse brewed it for them in bray and McGregor has since bought the whole brewery from porterhouse,
So apparently Colin McGregor released a vodka at some point 😂 whilst reviewing the wrong Guinness. Hahaha still always love the vids thanks Simon !

Mcgregor bought porterhouse brewing company in dublin to brew his stout, I believe they are able to just brew the rest of there beers as normal too, some are quite decent.
I didn’t know he bought them? That is another sellout brand to avoid.
Porterhouse brews some of the best single stouts in Ireland and best in Dublin.

Best stout in Ireland is from Blacks Brewery in Kinsale. The Chocolate & Vanilla stout is my favourite when they release it, if only they had a nitro version. O'Haras nitro stout is okay too.
The big three in Ireland are obviously Guinness and Murphys, but Beamish is the best draught pub stout available. Very difficult to find outside of Cork though.

Very, very unfair comparison. The FRGD beer is same as Guiness draft…it’s drinkability akin to Guiness draft hence the importance of Nitrogen….that’s why the Nitrogen is added.
You're right but given that he rates the Guinness original better than the draught, Forged would've been done even worse by comparison.
In Ireland we also have a stout brewed by Heineken named Islands Edge… it is absolutely disgusting, brewed with basil extract black tea extract, hop extract..😂 headache all day long
And Heinken Ireland and the Stradbally Inn caused a stir when they offered three of their stouts
I love Guinness Original. Its a staple for me during the colder months. I find it very satisfying when I feel under the weather. Not so keen on Guinness Draught too creamy for me. If Original is a dark coffee then Draught is a cappuccino! Not sure I can find the Forged Stout where I live but it sounds too "creamy" for me. I'm also partial to Mackeson and Black Sheep Milk Stout both of which are quite bitter for a milk stout.

This is a great review, Here in the States we have Guinness in the Nitro cans, and oddly enough I would describe it exactly how you are describing the Forged, creamy but lacking in flavor, I much prefer traditional Guinness, I am happily subscribing to this channel

ive recently just got into drinking guiness, i usually drink draught stout but occasionally ill find Original so ive had that, i prefer draught its creamy easy to drink, the original reminds me of red wine its got a sharp fizzy taste its okay but prefer the smoothneess of draught. no idea what forged is like.
Had that brewdog one few days ago and I thought that was better than both in all honesty

Bought 4 cans of the FRGD last week, had one, wasn't impressed at all. Went down okay but was just meh.
As basic supermarket stouts go think Black Heart from Brewdog wins the day for me, currently a pound a can at Tesco with a club card.
Slow down with the pour on the Guinness.. The forged is watery too. Stout is meant to be full, almost like a meal.. It fills you..

I've never tried Guinness original in my life till two days ago...yum. It's something my great grandparents would of drank. It seems to be everywhere now. I can't believe how much nicer than the watery draught canned stuff it is. But it's also nearly twice the price. I'll probably never buy the widgety stuff again. Guinness original all the way for me.

forged is just the porterhouse stout rebadged after mc Gregor bought the business. its not a new stout and has been quite average for a couple of decades.
so many better irish stouts than that and indeed guinness. try o haras stouts or sullivans
