- If you've ever thought of buying a SPAS 12 I hope you'll find this video answers some questions you've had about the firearms and what you should look for when buying one. This is not all inclusive, but will certainly set you on the right path.
I held one about 15 years ago and will never forget it!

I actually own one, and i still can't believe I do. Such a cool gun in movies. But yeah you should get one if the opportunity presents itself.
Once owned - never forgotten. I had one in the UK for quite some time and now that I live in the USA - I had to get another one of course. I bought one privately about 5 years ago for a measly $1K cash.
I have the lever safety which I will never replace of course.
GF gave me my SPAS in 1992...best birthday gift ever! Still have it... (the fun, not her!)😀

I've heard that the lever style safety was a bit of a danger zone but even though I know it could cause an unintended discharge, it's still a scary thing to see even though you meant to do it.

I remember watching this video when I wasn’t even able to buy a SPAS. Hell I was trying desperately to find a way to get the spas look with a cheap mossberg. I remember when you first opened up the spas 12 project website do you help me out a lot with finding the right spaz 12 and then I bought some parts off of you! I think it's time to do that safety lever conversion :)

@Vince The SPAS-12 runs perfectly fine with full powered loads. Hell, even just some of the hotter loaded birdshot will run fine. I routinely dump 100 shells of that stuff at the range no problem.
Just hearing that the SPAS-12 project can convert level safety's to crossbolts has given me more hope to own a safe working gun then I have had in years. Funny story I found a post recall SPAS-12 in new in box a few years ago for only $800 in Norman, Oklahoma 3 days later Norman got hit a by a tornado and the seller never replied again.
Oh yikes, that's not a happy story! But yes, conversions are available :)

While there are many nice comments here, many forget that the SPAS12 is 1970s technology. Imagine if the AR15’s gas system never got tweaked or improved upon since the 70s. The people who are trashing on the SPAS12 seem to know no difference between a dial landline phone to a cell phone. They would complain that a 1970s automobile would have problems making a cross country trip today as opposed to a new car. Hell, how about complaining that the 1972 Dolphins roster could no longer beat a current NFL team with young talent.

Wish my father kept his SPAS12. He traded a motorcycle to get it. It was the version with the lever safety and had the sling, multi-tool and manual. He sold it because a local dealer lied to him(this was back in the early 00s) and told him it was a destructive device.

Do you make the parts or do you sell them ? Iv been trying to get a spas for the last 3 years and every time someone buys it out from underneath me lol :(
I bought one of these boat anchors back in the 80's for 400 hundred bucks. I sold it about 10 years ago for 650 and felt real lucky to get that much. Recently I was at a gun show and a guy had a well used one for sale for 1800 bucks! I couldn't believe it. I always thought the balance was awful because the rear end was too light. I replaced it with a solid pistol grip stock and it felt waaay better. It was accurate though, hitting the center ring on a torso target at 100 yards with slugs.

I’ve been offered $3000 for mine. I’ve owned it since 1985, and I just live it. No, it doesn’t handle well for hunting or sleet shooting, but nonetheless still a blast to shoot. Slugs are my favorite!
The current market price for them now is 5k. Only about 1,700ish were imported and they are super iconic so their value just keeps going up and up.

Jay N . Uhh I hate to burst your bubble, but the SPAS 12 was never featured on T2 but I was the gun of choice by the first terminator on T1.

About a year ago I passed on an auction for 2,200 cause i wanted to see if I could get a different auction for under 2. Well that one went for over 3 and the one I passed on closed without a bider. Went back up and sold for 3,500. Now I can only rarely find them and they’re going for close to 5. I am an idiot
Hi. I have a spas 12 group with the paddle flipper safety. Are you able to convert it for a fee? Years ago I had already replaced the whole group with a push button style, but kept the old paddle one. How could I get it to you?
Do you have a video on field striping beyond the barrel assembly, I'm able to get that far but having trouble with bolt assembly. Btw thanks to your video I held onto my butts before trying it out and had gunsmith look at it before and found ejector screw needed to be replaced so I spared no expense to prevent possible chaos and have a very reliable gun.
The bolt assembly is in two parts (top and bottom) held together by the handle. Slide the top half back and forth on the bottom half. You will be able to see the holes from both pieces align. When aligned pull the handle out sideways from the receiver. You can also do the sliding motion between both halves while pulling the handle i away from the receiver on the right side just as well. Hope this helps. You probably figured it out by now.

Do you have any original slings for sale? Or a combat Bolt release?
Personally the receiver finish doesn't mean anything to me, but I intend to keep mine forever and shoot it quite a bit so I guess I'm not a collector.

Can the SPAS 12 fire more Exotic Shotgun Loads without causing damage to the gun? Like, If I loaded a novelty shell like a Flechette or Flamethrower Shell into it, would it be able to fire without causing Damage to the Gun? I'm just Curious as I'd really like to Buy one of these Guns and want to know what the gun can Handle without Breaking it. Also, Can it Reliably fire Birdshot or 1 Ounce Loads?

Maybe Franchi has dissapered... sorry I don't know a lot about all this, however like in other cases maybe they will make someday a special edition, is that possible? Even then, I can't be an owner of that in Spain where all is little by little more and more prohibited.

I Have wanted a Spas 12 ever since I first saw Jurassic park and finally bought one. Was super excited to find out that you have the replicated the stock hook as mine was missing it. Bummed that the combat bolt releases are out of stock. Planning on making any more? Going to place an order as soon as I go through the gun and see if I need any other parts.

Weren't there like full auto variations or semi auto or something?? When ever I think of the SPAS 12 first thing that comes to mind is a powerfully fast shotgun. Kind of like the AA 12.
You can select from pump mode to semi auto, your finger speed in semi mode is what determines the shooting speed

People walk past them because the pieces, "haven't got this or haven't got that". Hogwash - just buy the thing and worry about accessorizing / re-buffering / etc afterwards.
More and more spare parts are coming onto the market - my repro shepherd's crook is a 100% true repro and I've renewed the stock and recoil buffer. I guess the next thing is the grip plug.
One fine day there WILL be an enterprising person remaking the folding stock and the shot diverter, but the ONE thing that will diminish, is the availability of the SPASs themselves as they've been out of production for 30+ years.
Another scare is the so-called problem with the turning safety lever, making owners change over to the push bolt version. Just leave the bloody thing alone and just be careful with it. Keep everything as standard as it can be.

No. It is configured to shoot ONLY 2.75 shells.
