I agree. Gene Wilder's version had such depth. Johnny Depp's version was kooky, but at least interesting. This version looks so bland. Like a Hallmark channel Nutcracker knock off.
Honestly I'm surprised it wasn't Tom Holland. Hollywood has an awful habit of casting whichever actor is currently trending in EVERYTHING for several years regardless of whether they fit the roles or not. (Note that I don't have any issues with these actors in terms of talent)
I’ve honestly been avoiding the trailer bc I loved the book & gene wilder version as a kid, and the Johnny depp version was so strange to me that I don’t really want another more modern take on the character?? Idk the visuals do look very fun and aesthetically pleasing but I’m still not 100% sold on the movie. Really enjoyed this video’s chill vibe though; please do more 8am quiet reactions to trailers or random things!! (If you feel so moved)
I feel like they spending on Johnny Depp's version because Gene Wilder was blond and now magically timothee chalamet is now still brunette in this movie it doesn't make sense
I too still have unresolved trauma with the Johnny Depp Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 😅 It was... unnerving to say the least. I haven't watched it since the first time I saw it, and I own it 😅😅 (Don't judge me! Buying the DVD was the cheapest option at the time!! 😆)
Your dad thinking that a made-for-TV docufilm about Dolly Parton's childhood is qualified for the Oscar's, whilst thinking that Glee is the best tv series, reminds me of all of the times on the internet where you think people saying **super in depth, amazing acting, complex but insightful plot, gorgeous camerawork and enticing soundtrack, above and beyond talent on makeup/costume team, having movie or show** are purposefully saying that it's bad for engagement, but then you have to stop and sit to think for a moment and go, "oh, wait. What if they're being serious? That means they have opinions on what is "good," " to which they reply with the ludicrous ideas of Glee deserving more praise.
I think my #1 complaint here is it seems pretty void of color. Tim Burton really killed it with his version in that department. And im a big mauve tone gal but for a children's film, especially one about candy youd think theyd go further with color.
I miss you! I randomly thought about your videos earlier and realized I went from seeing them once or twice a week and its been a few months! no pressure I just hope everything is okay! love your content, thankyou for the laughs
Oh no.... I just understood the casting: he's meant to physically look like a young Johnny Depp, but ACT like a young Gene Wilder. If you've seen Gene's younger acting, Timothy actually feels correct. I was super uncomfortable until I remembered how YOUNG Depp & Wilder looked at that age.
Theyve tried to contiue the weird america/britain hybrid country setting that were in the original film, danny champion of the world and Matilda and i bloody hate that. Roald dahl dahk was clearly writing about a very british britian.
The Gene Wilder version, is, ofc, iconic. I did like the Depp version because of the oompa loompa songs--they're the same ones from the book! Overall I found Deep Roy to be a much less terrifying oompa loompa than the OG version. I hated those creepy clown oompa loompas.
I don’t know where you came from . But I LOVE you! I love all your shorts. Thought I would pop on over to your page and discovered that you make long content🥰🥰so fun. Anyways I wish you all the success! UA-cam suggest your stuff twice to me and I’m like… I already liked this video…😂Silly UA-cam.
That Christopher Lee one was TOTALLY Tim Burton...Kendahl..your Dad...😂 U just like whut u likke! Golden funny ma'am! Love that detachment..so real. You're just lovely and that Timothee hes almost tooo pretty to play Wonka...or anything other than an artist/angel/muse. I dont know. I also want to hear some kind of accent..dunno why?
It's a prequel unlike Burton & Dep's very dark , disconcerting and gotta say creepy vision of Willy Wonka. Gene Wider is the "OG" but I'm definitely liking this considering the wonderful Paul King is directing
I’m not a fan of all this CGI in movies these days, it looks so like, animated. I’m seeing it a loot in this trailer. The movie will probably be fun and fine tho
love u. yet hate the preview. will never see it. the original is the goat and thats it. the tim burton try was awful. no more. ppl need to be creative and think of NEW ideas!! what a crazy thought!
I’m so confused why the acting is SOOOO BADDD when he’s done well in the past. He doesn’t seem to have any personality, it’s just him speaking normally??? Or with a weird dull tone
A solid no to see. Timothy not fun or funny and does look like college boy. Too politically correct where are the grandparents all four of them lounging in bed ? Will watch reruns .
Gene had the perfect representation of the character from the book. A man with distain for all others… adults the most (as with all Roald Dahl books), but also some great disappointment in children. “Stop, don’t, come back.”
😊 How in the world can you not see Timothée Chalamet as a young gene wilder version of Wonka what Ben chip you’ve been hiding under because come on now
So weird. We were just talking about how we were ready for a horror movie Willy Wonka. My husband and I talk about willy wonka...more than probably normal...fair amount through the years. However we didn't know this was coming out and it was a recent discussion.
After they do the prequel they made here with Timothee3e, I would absolutely love to see an m night shamalayn film about Wonka's downward spiral during the years of the health craze after the golden age of chocolate. Any thoughts on Wonka actors? How scary can we make it? I'm absolutely on board.
I’m not sure how I feel about Hugh grant as the oompa lumpa ……I have so many questions like why is he the size of tinkerbell?? why is he in a glass dome?!?!? Also I gotta agree about gene wilder bc I feel like he was def “dad” age when I was a kid watching it- and also agree to forget about the Johnny Depp one bc frankly it was frightening and I hated that it was the first one remade yet terribly done …..I am excited to see this one!
Okay did u watch the Dolly Parton movie tho?? It was p good.........not gonna lie I hate how this remake is looking. Even more than I disliked the Johnny Depp version. Its not bad, its just wrong.
Don't know a thing about this version but it looks like it follows Willy Wonka's beginning as a chocolate maker so really can't compare to original. No jokes necessary with that oompa loompa because I swear that is Hugh Grant and that's the funniest joke of all. I'm in!
Why do they make the umpalumpa EVEN smaller? And make a LAME AF height joke....I am reactive to this bc/of how as a child being of non-average height the messaging from these jokes on shorter characteries got translated onto me. Right now there is a lot of controversy about little people/"dwarf actors" representation in Snow White remake and to hire actors who are shorter/have dwarfism into roles that generally they are never going to have a real chance at landing due to discrimination/limited perceptions of height being SUPER important in hiring, when most actors who are short but not THAT short, or taller actors, film has been able to manipulate the footage to shape the height of the actor. If thats possible then the opposite is possible too, to hire ppl who are shorter/have dwarfism for roles, and not use the argument it would look weird as an excuse when it is done all the time. I also wanted to point this out bc/of the reaction to Timothy looking like a 12 year old. Perhaps they could have given him aging make-up, and its a valid reaction as it is just how you perceive him. As someone again who looks younger and has lived through so many uncomfortable conversations where ppl tell me they don't see me as the same age as them because of something I have no control over, and then become the punching bag for all kinds of shitty jokes. Clearly projecting, and why is this what I am focused on? Its that this is the moment to bring up these conversations becauae FINALLY the mainstream public are discussing height-ism related topics in a more nuanced way than I have ever seen before. I think its a very INTERESTING topic to discuss in children's movies because the height jokes are very childish humor- it normalizes a lot of things that ppl who are the target of these jokes/short kids internalize a lot of messed up body image related issues, in my experience and in research on this topic. Body positivity in general has not fully represented height yet as something real and just as harmful as fatphobia, heightphobia/heightism. I know this is a reaction to Wonka, not Snow White. It is just my thoughts as someone who is sensitive to this representation in childrens films, the breif couple of seconds in the trailer made me feel enough to try and comment on it in a way that can be a disscusion and not just a trauma response from me. He is in a display case, so small he is like a doll, and the song Wonka begs him not to sing, and calls him this strange little man following him around, if little people are prideful of the history of this role providing emoloyment and representation, even as much as I hate the song because ppl would sing it as I walked to bully me, idk what happens in the film obviously as it is not released, but if the song is NOT sung, and only ONE ompaluma, well, this, it saddens me. What stands out about the trailer is this does not seem like a Musical, but a side story and a film as opposed to Willy Wonka, and idk if the Johnny Depp one was a musical, it also freaked me out so I can't recall. I hope my comment can make sense to someone who is not short, and discuss 🙂 ❤❤❤
Saw the trailer a few times and thought it was supposed to be about willy wonka growing up as a teen 😂😂 is he really supposed to be an adult in this movie???
