4:04 "He was out qualified by Button almost the whole season" This isn't true. You really don't seem to have done your research here on this story. Kevin was leading 9-6 in qualifying against Button with 4 races to go, at which point he was told he was losing his seat. (The point where all drivers results starts going downhill for multiple reasons). Then it dropped to 9-10, but despite that, Kevin was on average about 2 tenths quicker than Button in qualifying. The points difference was amplified by those last 4 races as well, with the final race awarding double points. 28 points of the difference came in the final 4 races, after Kevin had lost his seat. He had a far better season than he was given credit for, and only lost his seat because a couple of money-men decided to show how much power they had in the team. On the board, most of them wanted to keep Kevin, but 2 money-votes mattered more. Then his personal life spiraled during his off-year. Kevin has been done dirty and been absurdly unlucky far beyond any other driver I know...
He wasn't unlucky, if he wanted a top team opportunity he should've blown away Grosjean and now Hulkenberg and he didn't managed to do so. He alos has objectively poor tire management skills on front limited tracks.
@@LarsAgerbk Grosjean was on average much faster than him in terms of race pace, he also out-qualified him. And Grosjean isn't exactly elite, he hasn't won a race anywhere in 13 years. The only department where Magnussen won is points 87-75 over 4 years, which does not saying much.
Dane here. KMag is - as someone mentioned - kind of born in the wrong era. He hates sposnsor- and media duties, he never whines, and he's like: "Yeah, shut up now and let's go racing!" And that just won't cut it anymore. And his 2023 and 2024 seasons will end his F1 career. Gonna miss his approach, though.
I like Magnussen. Occasionally he is a bit too aggressive but he can be a great driver. I doubt he'll be there next year, but he's had a great run in F1.
Magnussen is one of the most competitive drivers on the planet, he’s a racer through and through. I think he got most of his racing attitude from his father who was very alike in his racecraft. Kevin leaves nothing out there when he’s wheel to wheel. Only if he could step up his qualifying so he could show his true racecraft further up the grid.
Magnussen has poor race-craft. When he was Grosjean's teammates, i remember so many races where Grosjean came back to him from afar because of how bad he was on front limited tracks with that precise matter. He also often makes avoidable contacts in race starts. He is a likable guy, but he is not a great F1 driver.
... And yet it was revealed in an interview a few days ago, that he was approached by both Ferrari and Red Bull, around 2018 and in secrecy did some testing for one of the teams.
I like K Mag. He seems like an F1 driver, but born into the wrong time. I do like the new Kevin more since becoming a father. He’s honest and still fast in race trim.
Ty for the effort you put into this video never knew Kevin is still that young tho 😅 but along as he isn't magically beating Nico this year. It's probably his last season.

Fantastic video. Really enjoyed it. Here's a couple of results not mentioned. From Wikipedia: Kevin set the fastest lap when testing the Porsche 919 Hybrid in November 2015, on Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Magnussen competed in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2021, driving the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing DPi car alongside Dutch driver Renger van der Zande. On 12 June, he won his first race at the Detroit Grand Prix.[76] Magnussen ended the season 7th. On 23 April, it was announced that Magnussen would drive the No. 49 High Class Racing LMP2 car with his father Jan Magnussen and Anders Fjordbach in the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans. He classified 29th in the overall standings and 17th in the LMP2 class. Following the Formula One season finale at the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, it was confirmed that Magnussen would race alongside his father Jan at the 2022 Gulf 12 Hours at the Yas Marina Circuit, during the final round of the 2022 Intercontinental GT Challenge.[82] Magnussen qualified 15th on the grid for the race and subsequently finished seventh place overall, less than a second behind sixth after a clean race.
He's a good driver with respectable career and I wish his current downward spiral will end. 2018 was his peak and 2022 was a bit disappointing despite the comeback: so many points opportunities were missed.
Actually I think his best year over all will never be noticed, in pure racing and car control and speed those 3 he was phenomenal in 2019, their car simply sucked! But some of those laps and qualifyings he got in are borderline scary good. Additionally give him a bit of rain not too much not too little for a tire, so the cars have to drive on the edge... and he is simply the best on the grid. Take Silverstone 2024 Kevin managed to do laps 1.5s faster than Lando Norris in the lead on the same tyrecompound in a HAAS with 0 Upgrades, he put his Haas on a friggin POLE POSITION at Interlagos in a head to head with Max Verstappen both in dry conditions, vs the rest of the grid being too slow getting rain... but he beat Max on purely driving, and understanding how rain will seep in on the track vs when it's too much throttle, he has sensational car feel in oversteering. Odd because his car setup's make everyone else thing it causes understeer, When Kevin makes it Oversteer, this is why he an Nico get a long great in terms of what they want in a car. But also explains his 2023 qualifying issues as the cars unpredictable nature hurt kevin more as it would have a seemingly inconsistent and erratic blance gradient from understeer to oversteer and vice versa, which is not as risky in Nico's V-style driving style, as it is in Kevin's Max Verstappen probably wouldn't have liked the car either, as Kevin and Max have a slightly similar driving style. Remarkably i think if you swpped Kevin and Checo Kevin might actually beat Max every now and then, but never lack behind, simply because the RB20 would fit Kevin's driving style really really well. In 2024 he has had traffic in 9 out of 12 qualifying rounds on his counting hotlap. that's rough. Last time in the UK kevin made the mistake as he THOUGHT the rain would come and he pitted instead of going for an extra improvement, after he spun off the same place as Verstappen and Checo, seems like that redbull and Kevin really have things in common. Anyway In Monaco... they were disqualified from the qulifying because of issues out of kevins hands, in Montreal they bodged his pitstop Bottas style. And yet Kevin has been consistently quicker than Nico in almost all free practice sessions this year, and then he had traffic when it mattered. Haas must know this is true, and I see Kevin staying on, I really cant see Ocon being an upgrade, at all.... and Bottas ough he is having a stinker of a season and he is not a racer... in racecraft, I doubt Zhou has shown much quality nor does the fact that he is chinese help the American brand well... domestically that is, and Sainz is probably an option, but I am wondering if he is a serious topic, I really don't see it. If Sainz end up in Haas then Kevin would likely be scooped by Audi or Alpine, Williams is unlikely, but there is one option more, which is Mercedes on a 1 year contract, doubt that one but its there... final scenario is Perez gets clause fired and Perez gets scooped by Haas, or Williams Sainz jumps at Redbull... and things shift up again. But i think its more likely Ricciardo joins Redbull, lawson enters VCarb if that happens, and Perez gets booted, Ocon Gets booted, Bottas Gets booted. I think Kevin's team spirit might be the most interesting thing that sets him apart from the others.
Hypercar for BMW, in 2025. And possibly a F1 seat for Cadillac in 2026. But I think he should stick with Hypercar. He lost the edge or passion for F1 a long time ago.
