- I bought a bunch of 6-inch bar clamps from Harbor Freight and one of them wouldn't clamp at all, so I took it apart and found the problem and fixed it...so easy! So here I show you how to fix a slipping bar clamp that won't grip with just a screwdriver and a couple of pliers.

5 years after your post. I found the solution!! Thank you very much!!
Awesome job. Good on you for fixing it. Way too few people actually bother fixing things these days and it would have just ended up in land fill. Thanks for this. I'm going to use it to fix my own clamps. 😁
The only video that actually showed the problem and the fix. Thanks!
You are very welcome!
Thanks for this vid! Designing some bar clamps for myself, that you presented the mechanism is more value then the clamp it's self, so there's that. The value you gain doing this repair includes, understanding design, materials, screw tension (you didn't shoulder or elbow drive those screws in, just a wrist twist) and on and on. Today's kids don't pull Shiit apart to get how stuffs made, they lack intrinsic knowledge.
That's all we did as kids...pull stuff apart! Eventually decided I should start putting them together as well. Thanks for stopping by.
had two clamps just like this with the same problem. i though the holes in the little pivot plates had been worn down and i was going to need to pack them out with some sandpaper or something, but i thing the angle sollution is going to work. just need to make some little plastic spacers and glue them in and should be good as new.
Keep that trash out of the landfill for a little bit longer! Saving the planet one mini clamp at a time.
Every little helps.
I would fix it, no matter how it cost. Thanks for sharing the experience with us. Remember, no grippy grippy is sucky sucky.
Exactly!
Friend, it's 2024, and I just found your video as the first result of a giggle (sic) search, after I disassembled my HF clamp, and came to the same diagnosis as you did. I giggled (sic) it to seek confirmation, and I found it with your video. You and I are birds of a feather (including the 6 strings), and I really enjoyed your video, including the input from your cat, and your reaction to same (even though, I'm a dog guy...). Hope you are well.
i am happy to saw this video !!
And no , i think it s expensive for the poor quality !!!
i have some couple of clamps like that , and know , i can fix it ,
thank you
I have so many of these which don’t work. But now I have the idea now. Thanks for the video.
You betcha.
You are amazing, you fixed my problem, thank you sir thank you.
Glad I could help out Ahmed.
Here’s the thing When there’s a will, there’s a way! To fix this problem! I just bought my small clamp and I have the same issue! Now I can fix it!! Thank you!!!
Thank you for this very easy, quick fix for these budget clamps. I fixed mine in under 1 minute using your instructions. Plus - love your delivery, "technical terms" and your cat. LOL.
Subscribed and liked Because of the hilarious part where the cat started meowing. Made my day.
He has his moments. Glad to have you along for the ride JR.
Good thing is that you figured out and thought to us how to fix it 😊
Saves me some money and time thanks
I had a similar problem with a culking gun which works on a similar principal? A little fetling and away you go! It's good to be able to do these repairs, saves money?saves the environment? A new one here in England costs as little as £2.99???cheers Rob.
+Robert Kibbler Hiya Rob. Yes, same general idea. Nice to be able to save a bit of cash for projects instead of replacing a fixable tool. Cheers!
The cat sold this for me.
ALWAYS NICE TO SEE A MECHANICAL MIND AT WORK. OH CRAP I'M SCREAMING AT YOU. Sorry
+Dane Nichols LOL...no biggie.
Isn't it strange how our shop cats always meow and need attention right when we start to really zero in and focus on a problem? Seems like it happens every time. How do they know when to distract? I had the same problem with one of these H. Freight clamps and did the same fix.
They are entertaining, that's for sure.
it would take you longer to drive HFT then it did to fix it!
time is $$$!!
thank you!!
great video!!
Thanks for this
I paid 99 cents for mine and I would do the same. Great video.
Thanks. I don't mind spending money when I have to, but I'm finding out more and more that with a little research and experimenting I don't have to as much. Thanks for stopping by.
yes that the whole reason to watch your channel seeing you struggle with things
+artistwo Well you won't be disappointed most episodes.
I always hate it when I have to stop work to fix the tools, but it does happen, and more than I care to mention lol you saved it mate! good as new!
+Randy Schartiger Being able to fix your own tools might be a valuable skill when the zombie apocalypse happens. ;-)
I see you EVERYWHERE Randy! Lol
Rattlecan Guitar Restorations that was for randy BUT I’m new to your channel and I dig it. I’m restoring a H612 silvertone archtop at the moment. It’s in three pieces currently. I’m going to clamp the top back on next week (and the back the week after that lol) and I wanted to know how to fix my clamps in case they give up the ghost at a delicate moment. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
+Jdyke2059 I just saw that, showed up weird in my phone. I've learned a lot from Randy and am glad he's all over the place, too...LOL!
youtube FINALLY started promoting my channel again after killing my traffic flow in 2013, like they say... just keep on making videos and they will come! lol

Nice Job dude! The cat is hilarious too! 54 and still kickin too. Sometimes its just better fixing stuff especially when I'm broke!
