My mother would drive us there every weekend to this spot, the children's pool. I grew up going to this beach and learning how to surf and dive and eventually scuba dive there as well. There used to be some big friendly fish that lived there, Sheepshead and big Grouper's. We were not wealthy by any means, my mother was a school bus driver, raising four kids alone, we drove all the way from Ramona to swim there. My Mom used to tell us that, we have every right to swim there, Old Lady Scripps built that Wall to make a safe place for kids to swim. Most people don't know that. Used to be a lot of Navy SEALs came down there to dive right there, back in the early seventies I was just a kid, use to swim out to Bird Rock, if any of you know what that is, and get Abalones for my Mom, there were so many of them, she loved them. Mom's passed now, but my older brother and my sisters and I still have such amazing memories of La Jolla Cove, and driving down Genesee avenue to get to that beach in my Mama's old 1967 Chevy Nova. We had boogie boards, and masks snorkels and fins. I later became a Commercial Fisherman and later an Environmental Science grad, all my life I have known that my love for Sea started in that little Children's swimming pool back in the early seventies. Truly a magical place. It's funny my Native Grandfather was a lifeguard at Coronado Island where he grew up. He was also class President at the high school there in the 1930s. He was killed in action at Iwo Jima after fighting all over the Pacific including Guadalcanal, Bougainville, the Marion Islands, leading the fight as a Second LT Marine Raider on Makin Ireland. He died in 1945 on Iwo Jima, D-Day. I live in Southwest Washington now, close to the coast and on the Columbia River. It's Christmas, and I've been lonely but seeing this video of my little Cove in California make me very happy. Thanks for posting this ❤🌊
So much of San Diego has changed and not for the better. La Jolla Cove is now a disgusting mess of street vendors, electric scooters and unfinished construction projects.
Maybe you should actually visit LA Jolla instead of reading about it on fox News! Been there dozens of times over the summer and it is amazing, if electric scooters, which help everyone get around, and street vendors selling 1 dollar tacos are the worst part then I'll stay forever lol. The only construction I've ever seen were old buildings being remodeled also so yah! Please stay away anyways lol
@@purplejakman I'm sorry you have such lowered expectations. I've visited the area many times over the years and have stayed at La Valencia, Grande Colonial, and La Jolla Cove Suites. The current situation at the cove is miserable with a never ending construction of new rest room facilities and street vendors who have taken over large sections of the sidewalks and park. The scooters are an eyesore and litter the street corners. I'm guessing that you'd be happier visiting TJ than visiting La Jolla Cove.
@@JMVideos7676 haha I've literally spent my whole life going there during the summers. Thanks for outing yourself as a self hating republican who believes that a few scooters and people selling food makes a place terrible lol. Tj is a great place to visit also!! I enjoy both for different reasons! I definitely have high expectations, that's why I don't visit the inland states more except for fishing and shooting, the best cities in most states couldn't compare to what LA Jolla is currently, and anyone who's been around the country will 100% attest to it. Yah know, unless you follow a certain orange man or watch a certain news station ;) So like I said! Please stay away! Keep California great :)
I eat at Harry’s at least once a week and it is always good and the staff are great people. Definitely one of my favorite things about La Jolla!
Late 70s & all through the 80's me and my friends took the bus to the beach. Life was the best then and now just too many people.
