No different then selling a house. If you sell your house to someone, it's no longer your house. The new owner has the right to paint it a different color or change the landscaping. You can't whine about how the new owner messed up your house.

Because if that is part of the verbal deal that is struck when it is first sold then the customer should be a stand up individual and honor their commitment. People expect dealers to be stand up and honor the deals they make, why should customers not be held to the same standard? He never said customers automatically 'owe' him the call, but did say it was standard in his pitch when selling it in the first place.
That said, it was a 'gentleman's agreement'. Since it wasn't in writing as part of the sale then the customer wasn't actually obligated. But that doesn't make it a dick move. If a dealer pulled something similar on a customer people would howl in outrage. It should be no different for a customer.

@@xwhels You weren't paying attention. It was discussed as part of the sale. I will sell you this, but if you ever decide to sell it, please call me first to make an offer on it. The customer said 'Sure, ok'.
There is no obligation to sell it if you have a higher bid. It had nothing to do with 'permission' to sell it. The dealer did the customer a favor, a favor he did not have to do, the least the customer could have done was return that favor, even if he ended up selling it elsewhere for more than the dealer could offer. Had the customer done so they most likely would have made even more money by playing the two offers against each other to see who wanted it more.
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly people apply standards to businesses, standards that they don't even hold themselves or others to. Unless, of course, it affect them. Then the whining begins.
