Punta Arenas is about 53° south, and people who live there are about 30° south of the Tropic of Capricorn. We all agree the sun's apparent travel will be roughly along this tropic some time around the 3rd week each December. Punta Arenans will see the sunset south-west and the sunrise south-east. Surely it would make more sense if the Sun were to be north of them at all times, no? Lisbeth, Jeran, and Austin witnessed the sunset as described but were puzzled by the sun's light still being visible above the horizon to their south at a time when Western Australians were seeing it roughly overhead. All three were confused further still as they watched the light slowly move eastward until the sun rose again in the south-east. How can this be possible if the Earth is flat? Luckily, there is a model that explains it all.
Strangely, neither flatzoid (South Africa) nor Mitchel (Australia) ever thought this was weird. And I am not even going to mention the sun rising/setting in the "wrong" direction, something with both filmed.
@Yehan-xt7cwI can't fathom how other people living in the south, particularly below the tropic, can believe in flat earth. Even our distances measured between locations east/west of each other don't make sense. Just look at Australia in the FE map, short and wide. In reality, the E-W and N-S dimensions of Australia are about the same.
I think he was homeschooled and his parents are living on Flerfville also and never showed him a globe. So he has no clue there are globes and several map types that all work. It's the opposite of what they have.
I can't believe Tony Naoum was in Sydney and said the sun never moves towards the South! I've only ever heard one other person down here claim that (and he wasn't a flat earther). Some people either don't know how to use a compass, or just repeat what they hear/imagine without actually going outside and looking. Have they never taken time to watch a sunrise/sunset? Everyone down here who actually goes outside knows that in our summer the sun rises and sets well south of the E-W line. Ironically, the further south we get (I'm below 42°S), the further South the sun sets/rises - the complete opposite of FE predictions.
I hadn't really thought about it in a long time so when I heard the discussion about this during TFE, I went outside to see. I'm in Brisbane at 27.3 degrees South. Yes, the sun rose to the south of east and set to the south of west, just as it has always done during summer. How that Sydney dude could make such positive statements without actually going outside to see for himself is baffling.
I have learned a LOT about understanding solar movement the last year, so I get that people don’t understand it. But at least show your work before you flap your lips!
@@bert.pasqualeThere's nothing wrong with not knowing where it sets/rises, or understanding why. A lot of people don't really have a reason to pay attention to the direction. It wouldn't have been that difficult, but instead he makes himself look silly.
Jos Leys is very talented and I think its great he features here. Where I live been photographing the Sunrise to the South of East for years, but all the flatties just ignored it. Great video Will.
The sun would rise from the South East, Zenith North and set in the South West in Summer because you are seeing a wider angle of the sun circling the Tropic of Capricorn, equinox East to North to West, Winter East North East to North to West North West. How else do you think an expanding and contracting circuit would be viewed?
They have also never explained what force keeps it hovering above the flat earth and what force makes it change its orbit between seasons. But obviously they would say it's because of magic.
Hilarious that he would be unable to back up his No Sun In The South claim mere hours after making it. What was that fool even thinking? Oh. Flerths don't think.
I haven't seen a flat earther suggest the earth is indeed flat but has 2 sides like a vinyl record. It's a bit inflated, you see, so you can cross the equator without really noticing you're now on "the back". In fact the more you inflate this pancake shape the better the model works.... um... oh.... wait.
The "2-sided vinyl record" model is topologically equivalent to a sphere or oblate spheroid. If some flerfers are really pushing that, it is progress for them. Now all they have to do is some measurements to determine the exact amount of the inflation.
I’ve brought this up to flerfs a number of times about the sun rising to the southeast and setting in the southwest. They just ignore me after I post that. Great shots with the drone.👍 That’s not just a little bit south. That’s a lot south.
Flatzoid is 100% trolling or just a simpleton. He lives in South Africa. He's either living in his mum's basement or lying... The Australian dude is either lying or stupid
One day Fkatzoid tested the sunrise and sunset on the day of the equinox. He didn't go to a place with a good sight on the horizon, he made it in his garden, with the house on one side and the trees on the other side. He used sticks in the ground watching the direction of the shadows. He found that the sun was few degrees offset from due east st dawn and it was offset from due west by 25 degrees at sunset. His clock shows that his sunset was 30 minutes before the real sunset. This story shows his stupidity and dishonesty.

What hysterical is during Northern Hemisphere summer, we have the exact same issue, and here there’s no excuse because a significant portion of the world’s population lives north of the Tropic of Cancer. And there’s plenty of land north of the Tropic of Cancer. And on flat earth in the Summer, the Sun should never be north of an observer north of the Tropic of Cancer… …but it is. Amazing that most Flat Earthers live north of the Tropic of Cancer, but this never occurred to them.
Eric Dubay says as the sun's circuit gets smaller " it slows down". Contrary to every other spinning or rotating thing. What in the world slows it down?
Okay! When you were in Punta Arenas, on the night of December 11/12. Here's the Sun's data for that time. ......................................Time.... .Altitude.........Azimuth Astronomical Dawn-----NONE .........Nautical Dawn.....02:52....-11deg 15'....162deg 21' ................Civil Dawn.....04:19....-05deg 15'....143deg 00' .........................Rises.....05:11...-00deg 15'....132deg 25' ...........................Sets.....22:04...-00deg 13'....227deg -29' ..................Civil Dusk.....22:56...-05 deg 15'...216deg 52' ...........Nautical Dusk.....00:22....-11deg 15'...197deg 41' ...Astronomical Dusk....NEVER .........Local Midnight.....01:37....-12deg 59'...180deg 06' So there you have it. At its lowest, straight south of Punta Arenas, the Sun was 12 degrees, 59 minutes below the horizon. Both Astronomical Dusk and Astronomical Dawn NEVER HAPPENED. Let's talk about that. Astronomical Dawn happens the moment the Sun is less than 18 degrees below the horizon. At astronomical dawn, you still clearly see the glow of the Sun. The horizon is not dark. The sky to the south is not dark either. You can still see planets and bright stars but nothing dimmer than that. All times at Punta Arenas were brighter than astronomical dawn or dusk. In Punta Arenas, the Sun was only 12 deg 59 minutes below the horizon at local midnight. The southern horizon was bright with the light from the Sun, although the disk of the Sun couldn't be seen. Since there was no Astronomical dusk or dawn, they too had 24 hour light. That means the glow of the Sun could be clearly seen at local midnight, 01:37 local time. They never lost sight of the Sun for 24 hours even in Punta Arenas. Now what can Flatzoid say about something special about Union Glacier that the 24 hour Sun is only visible there? Busted.
One certainly doesn't need to go to the south pole or Chile to observe the sun rising or setting to the south in order to prove the flat earth map wrong. I live near Seattle Washington (around 45° North) in a house that faces almost directly south. During the summer, the sun shines on my house's rear (North-facing) wall at both sunrise and sunset. Impossible on a flat Earth. I would think that there are at least some flat-earthers who live far enough North or South to observe this phenomenon for themselves without needing travel, equipment, training, or special knowledge. I wonder why they don't just go outside with their eyes and look?
Unfortunately, I think that's consistent with the polar projection map they use. People in the north would see the sun "circle" them like that. It's people south of the tropics that really mess with their model
Bottom line: Any model of the earth has to precisely match the observed position and motion of the sun, at all times, all dates, at all positions… simultaneously. Globe: Check. FE: uhhhh, flashlight on upside down plastic bowl makes a spot.
Genuinely thank you for doing this. I remember around the time when I was 15-16 years old I was genuinely able to argue with flat earthers on various platforms (including UA-cam) and actually bring quite a bit of a challenge to the table for them. 99% of the time the result was them throwing all of their most advanced and scientifically complex lingo at me in hopes I wouldn't understand what they were talking about / try to scare me off by appearing smarter (which, at the end of the day, is the core complex and trauma most of them have, which is why it was never about proving the earth is round or flat). This trip and documentation has provably yielded results in the form of a couple of conspiracy theorists leaving the space due to finally experiencing the toxicity and utter nonsense their pseudoscientific community harbors, which is something I've believed quite firmly was impossible for a couple of years now judging by my own experiences. It's great seeing actual change for once. I hope this keeps corroding these archaic ideas away and makes more people actually learn to think rationally again, it's healing.
Are they gonna say now that the Sun shines at the flat Earth entirely, non-stop and there is a shape-shifting black hole in between? That would be fun, to let them try to explain a "Moonshine" 🥴🤣

Just the term "revolves" instead of ORBITS the earth is ridiculous" a revolution is as in the earths revolution is SPINNING, not going around something as in an ORBIT. The earth's revolution is why we have night and day on different continents at different times, all around the earth. The earth orbits the sun, and the moon orbits the earth which is why sometimes we can see the moon during daylight hours! I've also heard that the sun and moon are within the earth's atmosphere, I would love to hear how they think THAT works. 🙄
@@jbug13158 In italian when I was a child, the movement of the earth around the sun was specifically called "the revolution of the earth". I thought it was the same for the english.
@@jbug13158 "a revolution is as in the earths revolution is SPINNING, not going around something as in an ORBIT" No, you are wrong on that. In astronomy, the orbit of the Earth around the sun is indeed its revolution. The spinning of the Earth is its rotation, not its revolution.
@@bjornfeuerbacher5514 Thanks for your reply! I definitely got revolution confused with rotation. However revolution is used with the word orbit when referring to the movement of a planet, known as orbital revolution which is the curved trajectory of an object such as the trajectory of a planet around a star, or of a natural satellite around a planet, or of an artificial satellite around an object or position in space such as a planet, moon, asteroid, or Lagrange point. One orbital revolution equals one year.

People knew long before Columbus that the Earth is not flat, that was accepted by virtually every educated person in his time. And this claim makes no sense for another reason: according to the flerfers, the edge of the ocean is in the south, whereas Columbus staid north of the equator on his travels.

Jo Hanvey is now saying we cannot be certain of any model flat or globe. He knows he is never going to show a flat earth model that matches reality. He says that globe belivers don't have a model. That's odd. Have a look Google earth where even my house is shown!😂
But Hanvey has a model of an aquarium over a Gleason projection of the globe, never revealing his "model" at all, while claiming falsely that it answers every question, predicts every observation on the globe. I asked him to use his model to predict tomorrow's sunrise time and bearing from Johannesburg and he ran for his life.
To all flerfs before they comment. Earth is not flat. 24-hour sun can only work on the globe. If you disagree, explain how a 24-hour sun works on a flat earth. I'll be waiting. 😉
Lady Blount and Albert Smith already explained how a 24-hour sun in Antarctica works on a flat earth in 1904. Look at the Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area Projection. On this model, _the one and only_ sun circles around each pole (or center) for six months of the year. From about March 22 to September 22, the sun rotates clockwise around the northern center. At the autumnal equinox, the sun begins to travel towards the equator and changes from a clockwise to a counterclockwise circuit. From about September 22 to March 22, the sun rotates counterclockwise around the southern center. At the vernal equinox, the sun goes back from a counterclockwise to a clockwise circuit. This cycle of the sun’s motions repeats every year.
Yup, in order to complete a revolution in Northern Hemisphere winter, where the Sun circles the Tropic of Capricorn, it has to travel faster than it does in the Northern Hemisphere summer where it circles the smaller radius Tropic of Cancer. If the Sun circled at the same speed over both Tropics, the days would be of different lengths. No mechanism for the speeding up/slowing down of the Sun has ever been postulated by a Flat Earther (to the best of my knowledge), nor has there been any explanation as to what makes the sun change the radius of its orbit (in towards the Tropic of Cancer and out towards the Tropic of Capricorn). But, hey, lets not get bogged down in mere details. As @MCToon says, you gotta lie to Flerf.

Luckily, there is a model that explains it all.
umm,, let me guess....
Its a square!
Jerrin has repented from the flat earth lie publicly. There is 1 honest FE who went on that trip.
This is your best yet. Congrats, Will!
"You don't even have a model", what a punk 😂
I think he was homeschooled and his parents are living on Flerfville also and never showed him a globe. So he has no clue there are globes and several map types that all work. It's the opposite of what they have.
Jos Leys' amazing visualisations, so great.
The sun directions gave me chills. Good work guys!!
He must live in Sydney, Nova Scotia as here in Sydney Australia it does rise South of East
@@tonyw4863 😆
@@bert.pasqualeThere's nothing wrong with not knowing where it sets/rises, or understanding why. A lot of people don't really have a reason to pay attention to the direction. Even less have a need to understand. But if he's going to go online and argue about what he sees in the sky where he lives, you'd hope he'd actually look at the sky first!

That animation from Jos Leys - breathtaking - ❤
Fantastic, love the animations, especially the second one by Jos. FE is not only dead, but has just been evaporated.
Have Flerfers ever explained how their magical floating sun can only shine downwards like a spotlight?
They have also never explained what force keeps it hovering above the flat earth and what force makes it change its orbit between seasons. But obviously they would say it's because of magic.
So good seeing SOV eat his words. As soneone who lives south of the tropic of capricorn, I am in a unique location to destroy the flat earth everyday

The lesson here is not to stick to dogmas (what ever they are), but always search for the truth with open heart.
I’ve brought this up to flerfs a number of times about the sun rising to the southeast and setting in the southwest. They just ignore me after I post that.
Great shots with the drone.👍 That’s not just a little bit south. That’s a lot south.
Hey flat earthers... We are laughing at your "superior” intellects... At this stage, there is no hope for you, so we will just keep laughing
I am eternally grateful to Will Duffy and Team for The Final Experiments and their monumental and enduring contribution to True science!!
Stellar work, no pun intended. 😊

@19:55 Begins Jos Leys' brilliant animation. 🎉🎉
What hysterical is during Northern Hemisphere summer, we have the exact same issue, and here there’s no excuse because a significant portion of the world’s population lives north of the Tropic of Cancer. And there’s plenty of land north of the Tropic of Cancer.
And on flat earth in the Summer, the Sun should never be north of an observer north of the Tropic of Cancer…
…but it is.
Amazing that most Flat Earthers live north of the Tropic of Cancer, but this never occurred to them.
That sun direction animation is insanely cool 😎

Okay! When you were in Punta Arenas, on the night of December 11/12. Here's the Sun's data for that time.
......................................Time.... .Altitude.........Azimuth
Astronomical Dawn-----NONE
.........Nautical Dawn.....02:52....-11deg 15'....162deg 21'
................Civil Dawn.....04:19....-05deg 15'....143deg 00'
.........................Rises.....05:11...-00deg 15'....132deg 25'
...........................Sets.....22:04...-00deg 13'....227deg -29'
..................Civil Dusk.....22:56...-05 deg 15'...216deg 52'
...........Nautical Dusk.....00:22....-11deg 15'...197deg 41'
...Astronomical Dusk....NEVER
.........Local Midnight.....01:37....-12deg 59'...180deg 06'
So there you have it.
Busted.
that Sydney guy dared to openly lie about sun being always to the north. How dare he!?
@@bikesnacks Yeah, I see that now that you mention it. Not that many people interested in this issue live that far south. Oh well, it was a thought.
can't argue with this logic !! great video
Bottom line: Any model of the earth has to precisely match the observed position and motion of the sun, at all times, all dates, at all positions… simultaneously.
Globe: Check.
FE: uhhhh, flashlight on upside down plastic bowl makes a spot.
Jos Leys animation = mind blown
Another mic drop my WD. boom!
17:50 that's also a perfect opportunity to film a ship going behind the curve. I hope someone recorded it with a P1000 fully zoomed in.

That animation is awesome. I remember seeing it when it was first released. But flat Earthers are not convinced by evidence.

That off-hand claim by Dubay should be an immediate discussion stopper:
Dubay - "the Sun and Moon revolve around the Earth, illuminating like spotlights..."

Every single debater should force him to explain that particular piece of crap
He’s just parroting what that 19th century buffoon Rowbotham claimed without evidence. Dubay does a lot of parroting.
@@jbug13158 "a revolution is as in the earths revolution is SPINNING, not going around something as in an ORBIT"
No, you are wrong on that.

@@The-Final-Experiment Really. It is an equi-rectangular cylindrical projection which has evenly spaced parallels. The Mercator projection has parallels which get progressively further apart as you move away from the equator. A common criticism of the Mercator projection is that it portrays Greenland as the same extent as Africa but this is not the case on the map you show.

He knows he is never going to show a flat earth model that matches reality.
He says that globe belivers don't have a model.
That's odd. Have a look Google earth where even my house is shown!😂
They just strawman the word "model" by saying "Google Earth isn't a model, because it doesn't show gravity"

@real-products Interesting hypothesis. What map was used for this?
Wait wait wait. I didn't know they said the sun speeds up in the "winter". How gloriously preposterous! 😂😂😂
On a flat earth everything works by magic.
