Cheehuu originated from Samoans celebrations from the tradtional samoan dances just an expression pretty much. But yeah everybody hawaii stay cheehuuuing lol
i get some for you! - ol ledeh: old lady, girlfriend - lyhdat: like that -merna: similar to marry, example “brah i just had cheat on my boyfriend” “aye you merna” it kinda means like one blonde you know what i mean - ah no can you: like for example if you had kiss your cousin and you tell someone you say “ah no can you” - high maka maka : stuck up, like you probably get one stick up your ass that make you a bitch lol - unodakine : you know what, you know who’s that, etc. hope you use this lol!! love you girly ❤️
I lived in Maui for a month with my Hawaiian sister in law & white brother & I found that me as a black woman was openly accepted speaking broken engligh /pidgin. I'm moving back and I appreciate this.
Went to Hawaii for the first time last year and heard some locals speaking pidgen i was so facinated lol im Maori and we have 2 languages we speak "Hori" (slang) and Te Reo which is proper Maori language.
I love that there’s people like you on such a public platform to spread our culture and share it w the world. I know you’re from Oahu but Maui no ka oi all da way 😂❤️
I was so surprised when I came across your channel and I was like what the heck she's from Hawaii and then I seen your pidgin videos and was like oh she's the real thing haha one papolo girl who stay speaking Hawaiian and Pidgin I luuuuuv 💕
CHEEHOO is a Samoan thing. It's called a faaumu and is used during traditional ceremonies and celebrations. I guess people in Hawaii adapted it because I rarely hear other Islanders in New Zealand use it unless they're Samoan.
My sister came to visit me in Austin and we went to a Country Music concert and she started Chee Hoo-ing all ova da place. It was the best thing EVAAAAAR!!!
Yeaaaa youu!! Definition would be like congratulating someone, or seeing someone with something that catches your attention. For example, you see your friend, with a bottle of Hennesy, you say "yeaaa youu!! I like sampo (or zap)."
Sistah I no can already! You cracking me up! Oh I remember one saying “I going karang your alas!” I think that’s how spell em. Keep these coming and NEVAH lose your pidgin girlee 💋
I use the phrase "Yeah You!" A lot with my friends when they're like posing, dancing, playing sports, showing off, wearing something nice like something that they are doing so good that I'm impressed or I'm like "I see you."
As long as they know where they got the meaning of the word from. I hear a lot of people using the word "brah" now which was probably from Pidgin. Unlike the word "bruh" which is not.We also cringe and don't understand when the mainlanders come to Hawaii and try to speak Pidgin. Hell, my family and friends make fun of me when I go back to Hawaii and try to speak Pidgin.
Aloha sis! I love all these videos. i think you stay hitting the nail right on the head with these keep it up! i also going drop some extra words down here a hui hou cant wait for the next one ule kapakahi humbalala bolo head hauna podagee tita mary alice auwe hamau anykine i think that should be plenty nuff ah, okay mahalo and a hui hou!
I'm not a professor Pidgin haole, but I live Waianae so I'm in it. There seems a lot of Hip-Hop inflection in it, among teenage kids acting cool. I've been around locals from the 442d generation, and they used to use "Plantation kine" pidgin. I'm sometimes around the "Cruise Kalakaua, '57 Chevy" generation" and their "Townie mid-Century", my landlord, Waianae '68, went to Town, and never came back. His younger brother is still Local, but I haven't seen him in a while. My landlord is unaccented American English. But retains his handyman skillz, so I get plenny works twice a week.
Yea you means you cheering them up :) you say chee hoo at like a concert can you do native fish like like ahi or invasive fish like mollies or cichlits?
i just moved for hawaii here is some word i used alot auau(to bath)kaukau (food) not sure how to spell this but it is you to tell you kid to go to sleep or nap nyny
I'm glad I found your channel! I'm from Hawaii and don't really use pidgin my but I do understand and I really enjoy hearing it (not from myself lol just a few but that's it) Yeah you is pretty much a hype phrase from what I've experienced. Like a friend of mine once came to school looking extra nice to ask someone out to banquet and I was like "YEAH YOU" Some of my favorites are: bola head: bald juss fo jokes: jk kaukaumukau: time to eat (kaukau: a meal) mine ya own kuleana: mind your own business (kuleana can also mean responsibility) Hana hou: one more time/encore
I really like your videos ! they helped me tremendously this past semester with a few of my final projects :) Do you think you might could do a video on Hawaiian phrases , and not so much individual words? :) For example in one of your videos you mentioned how people in Hawaii say " when you grad" , when they want to know a little more about you. :)
Just a little correction, it's "where you grad?". That's just so you know which part of the island you are from or which island you are from, and since everybody probably knows someone (2 degrees of separation) you are trying to find that someone you know in common.
Check this out. I learned this myself. Everybody thinks "Okole" means "buttocks", when to native Hawaiian speakers it actually means "anus". Some older Kanaka and native speakers may find it offensive. The word "lemu" is used instead with native speakers. But hey, for everyone else it will still be "Okole" LOL 🤷♂️
I feel like yeah you doesnt have a definition, only examples😂 “ho, i when oof dakine last night,” “yeah youuuu!” OR when you race someone for chugging beer, and you win, everyone going yell “yeaahhh youuuu!”
Yea you can mean alot of thing like yea you with attitude is bad like "cuz I met da meanest chick today we goin out tonight" "yea you😏" cause you know he lying and always telling story's but if you get a happy yea you it means YESSSS like "cuz we go out tonight" "yea you" like yess we go
I heard you use "smash" but didnt explain that word. :) A few words I dont think I heard you say. "Kuleana" , "Mauka side or Makai", "keiki" "grindz". Much Mahalos for making these videos. I make videos of our life here on Maui if interested. Mahalo and Aloha!

Yup! Samoans: Chee huu. Hawaiians: Chee or Chee hee. Nowadays everyone say both lol
i get some for you!
- ol ledeh: old lady, girlfriend
- lyhdat: like that
-merna: similar to marry, example “brah i just had cheat on my boyfriend” “aye you merna” it kinda means like one blonde you know what i mean
- ah no can you: like for example if you had kiss your cousin and you tell someone you say “ah no can you”
- high maka maka : stuck up, like you probably get one stick up your ass that make you a bitch lol
- unodakine : you know what, you know who’s that, etc.

God DAMN I love these videos!!! I would be interested to know your opinion on mainlanders using/adopting Hawaiian slang.
i think its cool!! IT just lets locals know that mainland ppl are trying to relate and adapt to the hawaii way :)
As long as they know where they got the meaning of the word from. I hear a lot of people using the word "brah" now which was probably from Pidgin. Unlike the word "bruh" which is not.We also cringe and don't understand when the mainlanders come to Hawaii and try to speak Pidgin.
