It's hard not to see EA's illogical distain for BF2/3 as anything other than spite for forever ruining their sweeping plans for pay to win loot boxes.
It absolutely is that. The 20% cut for Disney’s profits have NEVER dissuaded them from releasing other battlefront, other Star Wars multiplayer, or even other single player stories.
Elliot made an amazing point in this video that, “while the games may cost an additional 20% to develop, they also would EASILY make more than 20% extra in sales”, simply because of brand recognition and the fact that they’re making a Star Wars game.
I agree, I also think they are butt hurt from how terrible the launch went from a sort of investors standpoint. Their reputation was ruined

@@deaconpoole7577 that's not even taking into account that if they did make a proper monetization system. look at how much monetization that a game like R6 siege has, they have a premium currency for buying skins in the store, they have a battlepass, they also have lootboxes, season passes, they have events that come with event packs which you need to buy, and customization for not just weapons but also the characters aswell. imagine being able to customize a clone trooper, the customization alone would sell like hotcakes.
@@aa-kz7hc except this is star wars people will be more mad not being able to make a 212th clone trooper without paying real money then not being able to put a new made up thing on a normal average operator or swat team member without paying real money. but having them be able to be paid for a certain amount of time before hand or make you have to do challenges to unlock the skins (if you didn't want to spend money that is) than that could work
It’s been over 3 years since Battlefront 2’s final update and it’ll be 6 years in November since Battlefront 2 released. Having a new multiplayer shooter would be so good both for playing and for content. There’s a lot of different videos to be made with a multiplayer game. Educational guides, killstreaks, etc.

We don’t need another Star Wars multiplayer game. We NEED continued support in battlefront 2 OR battlefront 3. Id empty my bank account if they’d release bf3 or paid dlcs for bf2.
Imagine a Battlefront game that combines all maps from the original Battlefront games - like Mygeeto, Mustafar, Rhen Var, Dagobah etc with the Dice maps. Then add in a much more deep character selection - MagnaGuards, Royal Guards, Gammorean Guards, Gungans, Raiders, more heros etc. On some maps the NPCS could be hostile to both teams and even captue their own command posts like the Raiders were in the 2004 game. Of course the budget would be huge but a man can dream.
Along with characters like Malgus, Nihulis, n Reven 😩
Could it just be that EA was angry at a personal level about the failure of the loot box system and was felt pushed by Disney to get it right? Meaning there was just no way they were going to touch it out of pure spite?

If the Battlefront II wasn’t cancelled on and instead received constant updates like weekly and wasn’t about making so much money, it could have been one of the best Star Wars games now. Too me it’s a really good arcade game.

Never got warm with BF2, played BF2015 pretty much to the end until you couldnt find barely any match. Liked the free loadout, no classes system, powerful heroes.
They could've even did a juggernaut mode, where one person was an op character like abaloth, or vitiate. And then have like 20 force users against them trying to save the galaxy.

I honestly will never forgive ea or dice or whoever it is who pulled the plug for battlefront to, and having the last two heroes we get being a pair of troll doll football droids, I wanted to see ahsoka and so many others, it’s like trading a game you KNOW is profitable for a game that COULD BE but in all cases wouldn’t be profitable and end up being shit

Man I remember when you told me about all that stuff at Celebration earlier this year. At this point, the only way we could get another MP SW game of that kind would be if we get the ideas Dennis had for BF3 and make it an open-source community project.

I was in the third grade when BF2 came out... I'm in highschool now. EA needs to get their heads out of the clouds and make BF3. It would 100% be more popular than the rest of their games. Especially battlefield 2042.

In that Universe, Sony bought out Star Wars rather than Di$ney. We get an amazing sequel trilogy that isn't rushed, the first film coming out in 2019. Sony develops the rebooted Battlefront games and they are 10x better than DICE Battlefronts. Dennis is still working at DICE Stockholm working on 2042.
Since the Star Wars license is out for every company. Why doesn’t Dennis and his company try to make Star Wars battlefront 3? Of course he can’t have the same title because it’s owned by EA 😔 but still, I think Dennis and the other developers could make a new battlefront game and give us everything we wanted and honestly deserved.
I was a video game tester on the real Battlefront 3 that was in production in 2008 by Free Radical development team that ended up being shut down on new gen consoles of the time and got out only on PSP as Battlefront Elite squadron. Still believe to this day it would have been a better game than the ones from Dice, the PsP version really doesn't compare to what they were doing for the new gen consoles of the time and the game had a looooot of potential. Also it really felt like the old Star wars Battlefront games and I've got lots of good memories from testing it even though there was also tons of bugs 😅

This Elliot, is one of your best videos. Almost brings a tear to my eye. I’ve grown up with the EA battlefront series being my most played multiplayer games throughout all of my teenage years. I am 19 now and I’ve pretty much said goodbye to gaming how I used to. It was pretty great.
Man if only we got an extra roadmap year like the one we copped with Grevious, Obi, Dooku, Ani etc

I've got two questions, just out of curiousity:
Do you know, if Capital Supremacy would have recieved the ship phases of the OT maps as well? And were they planning to add some more content to Galactic Assault or was it even planned to introduce one more large scale game mode?
I'm honestly not sure, I THINK they planned on adding ship phases to OT maps as well but my memory is a bit vague on that. In regards to the GA content or larger modes I honestly don't know. I do know Dennis really like Walker Assault and might have tried to bring that back if they had a lot more time.

The Star Cards idea is interesting, definitely would have been smart to decouple those from abilities, just make those separate Gadgets/Gear and Upgrades. Coolest part about the Star Cards is the art that comes on each card, and seeing how player cards are present in games like COD and BF2042, it would have been an easy cosmetic option. I remember reading a while ago that DICE conceptualized a "Star Card Marketplace" where you could trade them like baseball cards, do you know if that was ever an idea? Could've just been a rumor
Annual expansions could have worked if (a) they had free weekend events; and (b) they were made free and integrated into the default playlists after a year or two, such as when the next expansion was released. That's what they should've done with Battlefront 2015 and with Premium in all the Battlefield games before BFV. Alternatively they could have been combined with the Battle Pass idea, Battle Passes for every expansion so you don't split the playerbase
Also I think your idea of creating new multiplayer franchises to focus on specific genres of games is a good one too. One of the issues with Battlefront 2 is that people were expecting it to be an "everything" Star Wars game. Like the once popular idea of a podracing mode was cool, but it never really fit Battlefront. Or having a "For Honor" lightsaber combat system, which wouldn't really work in Battlefront either. But a hero shooter like Overwatch or Jedi vs. Sith combat game like For Honor or Chivalry? Looter shooter, battle royales, podracing game like Mario Kart, space shooters like Squadrons and Rogue Squadron? Like Starfighter Assault could be a game of its own, and imagine how much better the HvV experience would be in a proper title. Not that Battlefront should get rid of hero modes and space battles, but just that other game franchises should be allowed to really specialize in them. It would allow them to focus on their niche to maximize their gameplay, otherwise when you're dealing with a massive multiplayer shooter like Battlefront you have to make trade-offs for the sake of balance. Still wish we could see a Battlefront 3.
Totally off topic question, what is the mod you're playing (it looks like BF 2022) and how did you set up Kyber servers with bots? (I'm new to it so I wanted to ask, that and I struggle getting BF 2022 running without crashing on OT maps)

Thank you for making this, I had no idea about that tweet. Crazy! If we ever get another one I hope they add the ability to fire the ion cannon into spaceships from the planet. As well as being able to fly to and from the planet in-game. Oh and escape pods too like in Star Wars: Renegade Squadron
Imagine a game set in the clone wars, where it has similar dark tones as in Republic Commando, a story mode following a clone straight from kamino, to geonosis, the clones early years in front of a hologram would serve as a tutorial level, then later on after the battle of geonosis there might be a time jump straight to the end of the war, and we will see how this clone’s meaning and purpose starts to fade, dramatic shift from action gameplay towards a more mellow and dark reality of the clones during the early years of the empire… then of course multiplayer, multiplayer which supports factions and individual customisation, helping create a unique feeling among players, players that may not meet in person, but only know them through their personalised armour (designed around their clone legion) and their CT number and nickname. Battlefront 2 has a rise in discord groups where clone legions come together into lobbies and play competitively. I think that whoever decides to make another multiplayer Star Wars game, should take those groups in account and design their game for those players, and also encourage newcomers to join up with a legion. What do y’all think?

Could base it around finding out about the chip on Kamino, after overhearing shaak-ti talking about it with a kaminoan, then perhaps after order 66 there would be a choice to go awol and remove the chip, or not to remove it and see the tragic treatment of clones by the empire. Removing the chip would be a great view of how he realises that his brothers are controlled, and being hunted by those elite clones. Eventually by the time of a new hope, the clone would have been 50 years old ish, finding the rebellion and training rebels on Yavin 4

You know what’s funny? EA still updates Star Wars galaxy of heros. A mobile game much like raid shadow legends. They just recently added the scout trooper and a new Ewok, but they won’t even think about their multiplayer shooter.
They have tons of little kids playing that where they can use their parents credit cards to pay for loot boxes. EA only cared about the money that is why they ended support for BAttlefront 2 early. I reckon maybe Disney should license the franchise to another developer.

What Battlefront really needs is to make the *permanently acquired* characters feature.
What I mean by this is I remember I once grinded enough battlepass credits for say Darth Maul, only to find out that once the BattlePass expired, I had to *re-grind/re-purchase* the Darth Maul character all over again.

no where close to a big star wars fan… haven’t even seen the original or newer movies… and this game was one of my favorites! I mastered galactic assault getting 100+ kills a game with heroes and leading my team to victory. the gunplay was more than enjoyable to play as a trooper all game and still have a blast. I found out about this game after all the micro transactions were taken out of the game so i never had to go through the tough times. the gaming community needs another! the multiplayer versus genre is desperately needing it

Because let's be honest from the gameplay to the art to everything in this game was just amazing even graphicaly now in 2023 it looks amazing and runs so well.

i think if there is another huge star wars movie battlefront 3 should come in as a final in the games ‘trilogy’. it should have balanced characters, most of what bf2 had and maybe less cluttered + mace windu, qui gon, ahsoka and new characters. it should be 60 fps atleast for consoles, and have some of the best older modes + new fun modes with similar levelling up systems

I think if they did another Star Wars Battlefront game.. All characters/classes & vehicles/ships should have 3rd person & first person/cockpit camera views. The only reason I haven’t played battlefront since the PS2/X-Box era is I always think of it as a 3rd person shooter game and I’m more into 1st person because it’s more immersive and I just enjoy it more that way. I love Battlefield 2042 and I love Star Wars Squadrons so I’m thinking of trying out Star Wars Battlefront 2 finally. I hear it has decent single player and you can play some of the multiplayer game modes with bots. It sounds like it has a lot of replay value and that’s what I look for in my shooters. It’s a shame modern gaming like open world games aren’t great for replay value. I remember really liking both the original Battlefront & Battlefront 2 games back in the day! Thanks for the video!

The problem with modern games is that studios should hire and adopt the correct marketing people / politics. There IS a HUGE demand for more MP good Star Wars games. If devs think otherwise they are really, but really out of touch and know nothing about what players (customers) want. There is money to be made, they just need to stop predatory monetization and care more about quality overall.
I just don't see how they can make the argument that a game which sold millions of copies for $60-80 a pop is somehow not financially viable. I think that is more an EA problem than one that the fans should be concerned with by "chipping in" to support development. These are massive publicly traded companies. These are star wars games. How is it possible that they needed micro-transactions in these games to make money? What has changed so drastically since Lucasarts that have made Star Wars games basically a scam?
It is just sad to see all these corporations tank franchises. It is like nobody who makes the decisions actually cares.

I have a question guys is the game dying should i buy it or is it a waste i checked steam charts and it lost 1100 players in 1 months i love the game but is it dying?
It's for sure worth buying, the steam charts aren't accurate as when this game came out it wasn't available on Steam so the majority of the PC players have this game on the EA/Origin app which is why numbers might look lower on Steam! All the large modes are pretty much instant-queue whenever I play.
it's still such a shame they canned a great game with such a thriving community. If Star Wars was a more lenient license and Dice was an indie game studio, you know they'd still be working on the game. But instead we got corporate bullcrap to ruin everything.
