Hi Alex, have been watching your videos for years. Now I just successfully replaced the faulty USB power jack on my notebook and came here to thank you for teaching me how. You're awesome! Thanks!
no power after screen replacement, probably customer replaced screen with the battery still plugged in,worst scenario he may have ended up with a dead GPU or chipset after shorting the 19v to data lines
It seems the customer used the word Seems too often. A Northridge Fix Cliffhanger, what will happen? Fix or no fix? We will see in the next exciting episode of "Better than Factory" 🙂
Weird. It seems they are pretty sturdy, actually. I got a 4K screen, with an adapter into the TUF F516PM, where the manufacturer shipped them with 1080p/144Hz or 1440p/60Hz. It runs the 4K/60Hz panel without problems. (The AUO41EB works ok and has 500 nits, up for grabs for about £100, has 10 bit support and full NTSC+DCI P3 color gamut, it will just need a 40 pin to smaller 40 pin adapter, from 0.5mm to 0.45mm between pins, no other mods.)

How does he instantly decide to test the second mosfet next to the DC power and knows which pin is the drain ? Is it with experience ? Is it common in laptops in general ?
It is absolutely experience! He knows that the power comes in through the fuse and to the Mosfets and knows these Mosfets are common on these and the pin out. With a trained eye you can easily spot the gate since it is a single pin and going to the thin trace. The drain typically has all 4 pins opposite the gate side and goes to the same large high current trace. The other 3 pins beside the gate are typically the source and go to a larger trace together also.
@@DeafShadow90 makes sense thanks, I’m learning electronics theory and apply it in design projects and I see that it’s different from repairing without a schematic lol I need to get my hands dirty
im surprised at how many asus laptops you work on, ive had 4 asus laptops during my life and used all of them for a long time and never had any problems with the board nor anything else
@@Jasepo Maybe he's referring to the owner of this laptop... someone who thought they could repair one thing (screen replacement), but then they end up destroying the rest of the laptop as a result of having no idea what they're doing! Then again, he may be talking about the inability to get the OEM parts needed from the manufacturers. In which case, he should've said "This is the problem with NOT having right to repair".
i watch lots of repair channels, however this channel is unique . Speed , you find faults so quick . wow
it's edited
Even Alex was speechless at the end.

Exactly what I thought as well
Exactly what a service did when I went for a screen repair.
Replace with battery plugged in, dead GPU.

he didnt drain the power lines using the power button pushed after disconnecting battery. can result in this too. or a static short.
That was super quick troubleshooting Alex!
Good advice on declairing a 'No Fix' if parts are hard to find.👍

Whatever you do on an open laptop - DISCONNECT THE DAMN BATTERY
G9661M and RT9018B are equivalent chips.
Laptop repair 101 - unplug the battery. Screen replacement with plugged in battery = dead laptop.
Good see you back in UA-cam Alex.

I just told my wife your microphone is very nice , then no sound right after! LOL 😂
We didn't even need subtitles, we knew what he was going to say. 🙂
If he complains tell him not to buy Asus.
or don't replace the screen by himself
@@maklogetrich2378 while the battery is plugged in too LOL

Is not Asus fault bro. Is customer fault replaced screen with battery still plug 😂
@@saijyo8549 possibly true. But you can't exclude that asus quality has faltered massively the last years.

Just ask the customer to get the parts needed to be replaced, since it is not available in your shop. 😅
👌👌
This exact same is with my MSI laptop but no body in India is able to repair it because of the parts. Its laying in the cupboard. 😢
email sounds like it came from another repair shop.
None of them are laptops but notebook frames with overpowered parts, no ample cooling to be found
👍👌
We're gonna remove every component and still have a short :) lol

Ah ah ah.
Plug your screen connector while battery is still connected in a second thats what you will get as result.
Probably backlight short
