- In 1987, Yankees first baseman Don Mattingly tied Dale Long's MLB record by hitting home runs in eight consecutive games! From July 8th to the 18th (the All-Star game occurred in the middle of the streak), Mattingly took the baseball world by storm. He would hit 10 home runs during those eight games. The record would later be tied by Ken Griffey Jr. in 1993.

From 84-86, Don was twice as likely to homer or double, than he was to strike out.
I was watching and listening to all of these games as a kid...one of the things I remember most was that coming into this season, Mattingly had never hit a Grand Slam, but in this season he set the major league record with six Grand Slams. Amazing.
"The Hitman", "Donnie Baseball". One of the sweetest swings the game has ever seen before his back got jacked! Regardless, he belongs in the Hall of Fame!!!
I wish he had been able to play a few more years and get some rings. Or at least one in 96’.
In the late 80s it looked like Donnie Baseball & Will The Thrill would be HOFers. Damn injuries.
He’s my grandpas cousin so I see him a lot but yea he is the best super nice too
Most underrated ball player of his generation
I still think even though Jeter has 5 championships, Mattingly is still more loved by the fans.
By far.
Mattingly most popular player since Mantle and that still remains true...
A ton more. Donnie is BY FAR my favorite Yankee.
pretty equal in popularity.
Easily.
such a quick bat.
I can’t get enough of this video!
My memory is poor but I remember that year, hanging out in the sportsbook at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas. Every time I went there it seems like Mattingly hit a grand slam. I'm pretty sure I was there when he hit his 8th consecutive game homer but I do know that I watched it. Good times! Great player! I'm just very sad that he never made it to the World Series. he missed out by just one year.
Hey, Don Mattingly. This Bud's for you!
No Hall of Fame but from 84 to 88 the best player in baseball the best player in all baseball that 5 year period
MOST🗽INFAMOUS DONNY⚾️BASEBALL
Mattingly get rid of those sideburns! You heard me hippie.
Damn it Montgomery, get over it!!
Should be in HOF.

Was at the last game in Texas

The Hitman.
im here after votto almost did it
His sideburns need a trim
Helps that you play in a softball stadium. 5 of those Homer's went like 275 feet
Oh come on
Hater much
Must be a lousy Red Sox fan.
Helps if you had reading comprehension since every single one of those home runs travelled more than 400 feet.
Did you see any cheap homers?
