Loving the workshop Dan, plenty of space. Enough room for a little mini ramp at one end for a little down time 🤘🏼
Cheers Jay, You say that but it will soon fill up! Mini ramp would be dangerous. Not got the best history with them!
@@DanChambersDAC it was always a dream of mine to have an indoor miniramp at my disposal, but I feel you, I could see it getting used as storage space after the first rolled ankle 🤣🤘🏼
I've been watching you for a few years now, and your enthusiasm hasn't deviated one bit. Just carry on doing what you're doing, and I don't think you'll go far wrong Dan. Thanks for sharing your big adventure with us all matey.
Thank you so much for watching Paul, Glad you are enjoying the content. I am genuinely having the best time ever! This is hand down the best 'job' I have ever had. I get caught up in it sometimes then step back, look at what I am actually doing and have to pinch myself!
That is the most romantic gift ever ♥️😅 A sign of a long and good relationship
Dont do levelling compound Dan, as soon as you drop a hammer on it it will crack. We did it on our workshop and then painted it. Most of it is cracked and looks terrible. Just paint what you have there. It will stop you from raising dust put still give you a bit of grip when the floors are oily and that.
Also, it will need an epoxy DPM as the building doesn’t have one and the levelling compound will blow otherwise so will be very costly
Couldn't agree more, run the machine over it again, and then epoxy paint it with a few coats
@@joe3points864 Is that the stuff that you can pour out and spread out. And add stuff like flakes to it? Or just a strong paint?
@RonaldMedia I would just use strong industrial floor paint. You are either building a garage/workshop or you're building a showroom. Garages always get banged about.
Yep, exactly that….. levelling compound will just crack. Concrete will flatten out over time with use.
Unfortunately i don't have my own roller door. But if i did, this is how happy i would be! Really enjoying catching up on the workshop build!
Hi Dan , I. Thought you were going to create More natural light than you have ? My unit has natural light via the roof , best thing ever . Well done on your self build ,👍well impressed 🤟🤟
Hi Clive, No I don't want any natural light in there as it makes filming timelapse videos look strange. The sun going in and out of the clouds creats different lighting that the camera has to keep up with. I want to be in full control of the lighting.
Hi Dan, have you thought about having your personnel door sprayed instead of wrapped? It’s what I do for a living, Anthracite Grey (Ral 7016) in satin Matt would look great. I’m sure we could sort something out, give me a shout if you’ve invested. Been watching the build from the start, you’re going a great job. 👌
Looking good, once its all done just think how much time you will save not having to drive to your old shop. And the rent savings will come in handy .
Great work buddy,
Resin floor would be the way to go, can adjust the finish to suit your budget.
As far as your pedestrian door colour dilemma, just spray it pretty sure you’ve got all the prep and spray kit, so all you need is a 500ml tin of RAL 7016 and a bit of thinners, job done.
That small door sets the building off, can’t wait for the cladding to go on❤
Thanks bud. So good to have it fitted.
That smile on your face says it all, keep up the great content mate
Thank you bud, Could you tell how excited I was?!
Dan, did you think about adding another 16amp socket or two to allow you to run higher current welders in the future? You probably don't need that for most of your auto welding at the moment, but would be a useful bit of future proofing.
I hadn't tbf. Most of the stuff I do should be Ok as it is.
Give it another going over and Specialist epoxy floor paint should fill any minor bits and leave you a nice finish I reckon
I've never seen someone so happy to have a roller shutter door 😆
Happy for you mate its looking great.. roll on more builds in the new workshop 👍
😂 It was very exciting! I can't wait to get moved in and back on building cars!
How much longer till your in? Mission to get all your gear and cars over from the other workshop?
Noticed the bifold son the house as well. All coming along!
Yes bud they went in a few weeks ago!
Well done on all your hard work, it's looking great so far. Good on Rusty Lee for donating a door and getting themselves some great PR!
Thank you! Saved us a fortune and gave him some storage space back too!
One word for this workshop… EPIC
Cheers bud, I am so happy with how it is going!
I hope you get your logo made for the front/side of the building, and have it light up with some blue or red led backlighting. :) Seriously!
Getting there Dan , looking good. Well you got one of the most important things in , the kazie now you need the kettle 🤣🤣🇬🇧👍🇬🇧👍
Cheers bud, Hopefully have the toilet plumbed in this week. Hoping the kitchen units will go in soon too 💪
Give you floor fiber concrete. It will level the floor and dust close the surface
@17.23min love the calander surprised yt didn't give you a strike for that, keep up great work buddy love watching the updates
Living vicariously through you is fun! Carry on!
Amazing Dan what you have accomplished with this building in such short time, enjoyed it thanks!
I had a similar issue, not as deap as yours. I used a two part epoxi floor paint. I used more paint then if it had been flat but the total cost was less than other options.
The end result seemed hard wearing and was ok still when i.moved out 12yrs later.
I put the epoxi on really thick and gave it plenty of drying / hardening time between coats until I was satisfied. 4 coats...
Cheers bud, I may be leaning towards this option.
Looks proper well done!
Cheers bud.
Looking great!
Cheers bud.
loving this series
Thank you bud.
Great stuff as always Dan! So good to see the new workshop get done piece by piece, I'm very much living vicariously through you doing this hahaha. Can't wait for the next installment mate! Keep up the great work and looking forward to seeing the next update!!
Thank you bud, Glad you are enjoying the content! I am really enjoying building it.
😁😁shutter like a kid on Xmas morning 👍👍🤣
Love this!!! Keep up the good work 👍🏽
Cheers bud.
Looking great Dan! 😃👍
Thank you bud.
Love it, great man cave, one happy dude
Cheers bud.
Great progress Dan, can’t wait for the videos to come out of this new workshop
Thank you bud, I can't wait to get on with some builds now!
Amazing progress
Cheers bud.
Looking brilliant Dan your absolutely flying with this now and it's going to be epic.
Cheers bud, Slowly getting there!
Dan if you want to level the floor put electric heating in it at the part where you want to park your projects for now (future spray booth) to give them some love 🙂🙂🙂
Again a nice step closer to finish your workshop 💪💪💪
Cheers bud. That would be sick but you would lose too much heat as there isn't any insulation below the concrete.
Wow Dan I'm well jealous it's going to be a great work shop 🔨🔨👌
Thank you bud.
Looking awesome Dan fair play👏
Thank you bud.
Keep grinding or get one of them surfacing companies in.. lay some resin type epoxy wizardry.. levelling compound isn't the answer, especially not off the shelf mixed in a bucket stuff..
I spoke to a few companies and they said that the off the shelf stuff mixed in a bucket is what they would use.
@Dan Chambers I'm a spread and lay the odd room with my workmate, never massive sections, however it's the similar but scaled up... prep is key, clean dust free, grease free surface... then priming, you'll need a good primer, each compound brand recommends their own, but you'll find it looks like SBR, smells like SBR and works like sbr, it'll reduce suction and allow the compound to flow and bond.. some brands send 1ltr or so of fluid per bag as part of a unfuckupable 2 part system , or mixing needs to be repeatable and fast with a pre planned water level.. you can't do it alone or with someone having a go, they won't mix it fast enough or get it to you in time, you gotta hustle and the gear likes to settle in the bucket as soon as you stop spinning.. pouring it has to be spread about like a snake, dump it in one spot and you'll have a sand castle to move as the material will stay as the water seperates.. floor blades on a pole are awesome, just help the compound along and it'll be lovely and smooth.. Spike rollers pop bubbles, spike shoes let you work the area.. hopefully that give you an idea that you need to research your plan and execute it.. like with all plastering/wet trades, youre on a stop watch, these materials wait for no man.. you should be able to find more information and some advice from someone who does it more than myself, my work only sees tile and foot traffic.. look at some Refina tools, they do floor blades and stuff.. Good luck..
Well done, lad... It looks great.. hope that door doesn't rattle to much... mind and put a stopper in for the fire door incase it get bent in the wind don't want to wreck a good door.. stay safe 🏴
Cheers dude. Yeah hopefully not. It does close down and close the joins to make the door a little more solid.
Look at resin floors with silica Sand over the concrete but obviously after concrete for ramp is done
2 for 1 then level the floor and will look good aswell
Good shout dude.
Looking great dan epic achievement 👍💪
Thank you bud.
Top work on the workshop, loving the doors and the bog lol. I’ve got a 120cm in vehicle tested Rusty Lee bed in my T5 and a Skyline roof and the quality is unbelievable. Lee and the team are top guys too 😎👍🏻 Great video Dan 😎👍🏻
Cheers bud, Great bits of kit aren't they!
Really interesting episode Dan, it must be a great feeling to finally have a building you can shut up at night knowing it will be secure have to say I love the remote control roller door that's a really cool feature as I remember having to open up where I worked with the old chain that you had to pull to open the door.
Looking forward to the next instalment👍
Thank you bud. It was such a good feeling. I can work until I want to leave instead of taking ages to put kit away! Yeah the electric shutter is brilliant!
You had me at “robot welder” 😮
Brilliant isn't it! Lee said it is a big investment but the time saved is well worth it.
Cracking job Dan. Might be worth putting some lighting on the wall above where your benches are going, it makes a massive difference when working on stuff. I wired mine in with the lighting circuit but on a separate switch so they run independent of the main lights. Can't wait to see this finished 👍
Cheers bud. I have an idea for the lighting where the benches are going 💪
Great video again, love this channel! Looking forward to seeing this garage completed. Long time subscriber. 🤙🏼
Thank you so much bud 👊
Your face when the roller door was fitted, Dan😎 Loving the progress. Think you are probably best just going for the levelling compound o the floor now. Concrete grinders seem to work to a point, before you just need to level it; had the same sort of thing with my ‘domed’ kitchen floor…that was an interesting few days! Keep pushing, mate.👊
I was a little excited! Thank you for watching. Yeah I think levelling compound is the way to go.
Great job dan 👍
Cheers bud.
Dan maybe try and get a good self leveling screed with mesh fibre from your concrete supplier we put them down over under floor heating they don't crack and easy to keep clean
Cheers bud, Will have a look into it.
Absolutely loving the build Dan! Possibly my favourite of your channel so far!
Drop me a message when you want some Vinyl DAC logos cut as a thanks for the videos 😉
Keep the great content flowing
Thank you so much for watching! Glad you are enjoying the channel and content! Ohh a couple of logos around the workshop would look cool!
Awesome content as always dan can't wait for me keep up the good and hard work bud
Thank you bud.
I think resin floor is the way forward, you want some texture for grip, but not too much that it holds dirt when brushing
Exactly that. Trying to sweep the floor as it is, is a pain as the tamping is so heavy.
Looks Class some job Dan 👌👌👌
Cheers bud.
Awesome work bro!
Cheers Bro
Sweet man cave 👌
Cheers dude
I'd use 2 pack paint on that it's fairly thick and would stop the dust 👍
Cheers bud, Will have a look
Grand progress buddy. As for your access door, pop to Toolstation. I got mine a ship grey but have anthracite roller. Look for bedec multi surface paint. Been great on mine, almost a year in and looks great. I used a radiator roller so no brush strokes.
Cheers bud. Thanks for the tip, Will have a look.
A flat floor makes moving things like engine hoists so much easier and safer. However you do it, do it now before you move things in.
Before you move in, borrow an engine hoist, dangle something heavy, try moving it over the ridges in the floor. That way you can see if it works for you.
We will be getting at least half of the floor smoothed before we start moving in. The moving date is looming so we will have to move in before it is finished.
Go for an pumped self leveling screed off an wagon mate. you don't want to me mixing that size floor by hand! Your local concrete company should be able to help
Yeah I will have a call about.
Love this Dan, starting to look really smart. Did I notice the bifold door in your bungalow at last too? Keep grafting mate 👍🏻
Thanks bud, Yes they went in a few weeks ago!
Bossing it as always Dude! Your soon be smashing projects out in there
Thank you bud, Can't wait to get stuck into the first project in here!
@@DanChambersDAC I bet dude proper nice workspace that.
Amazing episode dude with so much done to the unit. I had a electric garage door fitted at home as saved so much space worth the 1k it cost. Looking forward to the next episode 👊🏻
Thank you bud, Brilliant aren't they! I was very surprised at the cost for this one!
@@DanChambersDAC I bet you got a cheeky deal. Mine was meant to be £750 the 2021 price rise hit lol. Your motor is a fast one as faster than mine.
Your logo would look great on the front of the roller shutter 🔥🔥
I have an idea for a sign for the front of the unit 😉
Great valentine's present lol
The best!
I’m sorry the grinder didn’t work out for you that well. That’s definitely not the experience I’ve had with concrete grinding but regardless, I still think it’s the better route. That grey color you’ve picked looks sick though!
Yeah not quite what I thought it would be. I think the concrete in the floor is just very old and tough. We will get it sorted.
Great job mate, one thing, you have put insulation direct onto the OSB boards, don’t you need to leave an air gap for condensation
Cheers dude. So the insulation is 100mm thick in the walls and the wall timbers are 175mm so there is enough room for an air gap in there.
Cheers Dan. Looking forward to the finished workshop.
Great stuff mate love your enthusiasm. But why not use black conduit on the ceiling so it’s not so obvious.
Cheers bud, I did look at getting black but it would annoy me changing from white to black.
Dan, amazing job, just epoxy the floor mate, levelling compound is no good!
Looking great Dan, such a shame the sparks didn't run everything in metal trunking and conduit to future proof and stop problems of broken electrical points.
Let's hope they didn't glue all the joints cause by summer you will have a roller coaster of conduit.
Keep up the great work 👌
Cheers bud, I wanted it all ran in white. I prefer the look of it. if one gets damaged I can just replace it. Joints haven't been glued.
@Dan Chambers OK cool as long as you are happy with it that's the main thing. You are living a lot of guys dreams we all just hope it comes out as your perfect shop👍🏼
Consider a latch or lock on the inside of the shutter door to stop thieves just jacking it up. The remote is cool, but an internal lock will give some peace of mind if you’re leaving it for any length of time, like when you’re on holiday.
To be fair if someone wanted to get in they would probably just drive at the shutter to open it anyway!
@@DanChambersDAC I thought the same thing and figured I’d wake up or the neighbours would notice, but it’s amazing how quiet the criminal fraternity can be when they do it every night for a living….
Looking superb mate 👌
Not tempted by some strip lights down the sides for some side light if doing any paintwork etc?
Congratulations Dan, such an awesome work space. Will make life so much easier 👍🏼
Thank you bud, Game changer!
Looking good, come build me one now lol.
Thank you bud, I need a break after this one!
What height is the eaves & pitch now Dan? Be good to see the ramp setup - Dream having that at home )
Err I can't remember off the top of my head. Honestly this has been a dream for t least the last 20 years! Feels so surreal to actually be happening.
Great job....but no windows, no natural light in the workshop ?
Cheers! No, I don't want any as I want full control of the lighting.
👍 - Can you please put a link to the batten lamps you have put up on the ceiling in the description? Do they have a captive cable or was that a small length of conduit visible sticking out of the side? Thanks
They are from a company called TEKLED and are the 4 foot ones. They have a small tail of cable out the back of them. I don't put links in for parts I have paid for.
W rx. Spray paint Amazon....Will do the door
You could hire a floor scarifier for the concrete floor
Will take a look cheers bud.
Hi Dan, loving the workshop build series your doing a great job. Did you make sure the ceiling black covering is flame retardant? As there will bound to be sparks flying that high.
Cheers bud, Couldn't find anything about it being flame retardant of not. Will have a play with some and a grinder.
Great build love the videos as for your floor have you looked into interlocking pvc floor tiles I purchased my ones from a company called rtek in Ireland who delivers to the north east of Scotland sometimes also they have some slightly seconds at great prices and there products are spot on once down it looks like a painted floor extremely hard wearing and virtually impossible to see the joins
Thank you dude. I am not a fan of the floor tiles, Find them uncomfortable to work on.
Wooo
👊
Doors are in on the house as well. Result
Yes bud, They went in a few weeks ago.
Airless paint sprayer to get the decor. Done fast and cheap.less
Paint better finish.also look at rubber or resin type floors.speak to speci lists ask d,and j.project on you tube save money
Absolutely kick ass. I dont remember if you covered this in a previous episode but Is there some sort of cladding or covering going on the outside. ?
Cheers bud, Yes there will be timber cladding going on the outside once we decide what we want!
@@DanChambersDACwhat about pvc cladding? Slightly more expensive but saves painting and upkeep of wood cladding
Hi pal. Love seeing the progress of your dream garage. Where did you get your toilet door from and do you have a point of contact to speak to?
Get a liquid screed company to quote
Yeah I might have to call around.
Should have used black pvc conduit on the roof!
I did look into it but it would do my head in changing in colour form white to black.
I would think if the pro's are going to take 5 days on the grinding, you could just hire one for a few days with a couple of heads
Yeah I still can't decide what's best to do.
@@DanChambersDAC how about a nice deep pile carpet...
Don’t waste your money on a grinder mate, it’ll take so long to get that to a flat smooth surface and leveling compound just isn’t durable enough for what you are going to be doing in there
Yeah not going to bother with the grinder again. Got a friend who used the bagged levelling compound in a fabrication workshop, been down over a year has taken a beating and still looks good.
How about epoxy for the floor ?
I would love to but really don't have the budget.
Make a few more passes with the concrete grindertn get it resin finished , it's easy enough to do, next time you concrete make yourself a float with some wood and some smooth yoga mating to pull over the concrete to smooth it off after you tamp it level
Spoken to a few people that may be able to help with levelling compound. Hopefully that will sort it. Yeah will make sure it is smoothed when we pour for the lift area.
👍👏👏👏
👊
level it resin floor it
If I had the budget I would love to resin the floor.
@@DanChambersDAC future plan diy it aswell doesn't look to complex I plan on making a resin desk ebay sells some decent priced kits
Get the floor covered in epoxy
If I had the budget it would be going down!
👍👍👍👍👍👍🇨🇿🇨🇿🇨🇿🇨🇿
why don't you just get an epoxy floor resin poured that will level out the rough floor the first epoxy coating is a leveling compound the second is a finish floor coating that way your not spending money getting the floor smooth then spending money putting a coating on the floor its doing the job in one go.
Ideally we would go this route but the budget is about gone now!
@@DanChambersDAC ah i seen well the quickest and cheapest would be leveling compound and a floor paint then
Solar panels
1st baby
🙏
I'm shocked at the price of levelling compound. I used screwfix compound couple years back and it was £7 a bag. Just check the prices now. Wtf
Crazy isn't it!
