I actually found this quite arrogant and Gatekeeper'y. Just by starting the video calling 2.1k irating "pathetic" and stating that the game is unintuitive to drive immediately alienates and somewhat belittles the VAST majority of people on the service, because they are all below 2k. Now irating main purpose is to make sure most races are competitive for everyone. But it IS also out only real way of tracking progression over longer periods of time. So irating is NOT a rediculous e-peen measuring stat for MOST people on the service. It's a stat showing us that we ACTUALLY progress and get quicker. I am VERY far off of 2k irating and I am stuck in hot-lap hero limbo of 1.2-1.6k irating. But I practice as hard as I can, real life permitting. So being faced with "pathetic" and a shrug from someone that doesn't really like the game achieving several thousands of irating due to "luck" is quite arrogant. Now if the purpose of the video was to show something broken with the system or an exploit, all power to you. But the tone is definitely "haha look at how the old bad driver can just get to 5k irating in a month".. It makes the VAST majority of people racing there and enjoying feel like they are just BAD and wasting their time. For MANY people breaking 2k is an INCREDIBLE achievement - and you just called it pathetic.
As someone who did a similar climb in iRating from 1850-4300 in a month in the dirt road category, I have to agree with GM that iRating doesn't matter. The main point of the rating system is to group you with similar drivers, whether that's sub 1000 or 4000+, all that matters is that you're having fun, close racing. iRacing's physics/tire model prioritizes memorization over driving off of feel. It takes me 10x longer to get up to pace in iRacing compared to other sims. There is some amount of technique change involved swapping between any sim, but iRacing specifically rewards certain driving styles more than others. Ironically, my best iRating gains in iRX were during week 13 as the top level drivers couldn't rely solely on muscle memory. While it's still the best matchmaking system in the industry, I just don't enjoy the driving experience. I never feel like I'm wringing the car on the ragged edge, more just calculated under-driving. Also, I don't feel the race-craft is any cleaner in iRacing than other sims. The best quality racing you'll find is with a good league of people you know.
There was comfort in knowing that I could pull up the stream at any time in the last month and see GM going for the 5k. It became part of my life, it replaced netfilx, amazon and youtube. I became invested, obsessed, and dare I say addicted to one man seeking victory in his quest to greatness. It was a hell of a run and couldn't have ended any other way. My favorite version of GM is when he is emotionally invested, focused, slightly brain damaged from racing 12 hours a day, making moves, lapping fast af, yelling at grass, and getting it done. Loved the chaos of the stream, the chat, the sound clips, the banger dance rips, and the most text on-screen I've seen in years! Congrats my friend, that was truly epic!
Everytime I tuned in towards the end there was some kind of meltdown or argument with someone in chat 😂 I'm glad James can finally take the time to regain some sanity
The contrast of GM's voiceover complaints about other drivers while a clip of him utterly murdering innocent bystanders is a beautiful artistic decision.
To be fair, GM is always talking about how iracers are this or that, but he never claims he's not that. So, when he talks about bad race craft, it's perfectly fitting for him to be showing himself murdering someone, since he is an iracer with bad race craft.
You are super funny. Im watching this before work at 4:30 in the mourning trying to be quite and not wake my family up laughing. Thanks for starting my day right. When that guy wrecked u for second in the yellow car and you laughed about it i was dying haha. Keep doing what your doing. IT'S GOLD!
I can say only one thing it was the best sim racing video i ever seen, the content the way its made deserves great amount of applause and you have my respect for your achievement so go strong and get the 6000 ir congrats
for a driver who spent a good amount of time bashing iracers who had zero racecraft, you put in a shocking amount of clips where you displayed absolutely appalling levels of racecraft/awareness.
What a legendary month that was. The laughs. The tears. The rage. The tunes. The mold. Every moment was magical. Have to say, I looked forward to seeing you live everyday. The last race to hit 5k was a magical and beautiful send off to this awesome series. You are a content GOD and we all appreciate the effort you put into it. Keep it up GM. Cant wait to see you back on after you get some well deserved rest.
Amazing work. I'm also on my own quest to get to 3k. Had my best ever week in the GT3's at Donington and went from 2.4 to 2.7. This has given me the hunger to press on and achieve my goal. Great content as always. Wish me luck. Maybe this week is when I break my duck!!!
First time watching your content, and I have to say this earned you a sub. This was well put together. Sucks how the race ended, but at the same time, congrats on 5k irating
What a journey. I feel a little bit of guilt watching a guy gradually lose his mind with a smile on my face the entire time but I am a degenerate so.. Been missing the streams lately and this recap is so well put together, cheers to you GM. Cheers to the haters for providing the seasoning too, that pinned comment is chefs kiss*
In a world where some people run marathons, not chasing food, but for "fun"! The monumental achievement this mortal man has completed requires the equivalent medal of each and everyone of them.
Massive respect for this challenge. Well played sir, well played...translating this to myself, playing one race a day, i'm sticking to your previous mantra "irating doesn't matter". Don't race and gain is oh so true...

I fucking loved all the days you were live when you started this. Let the 6k i rating coming soon! I loved it. Best of luck and see you soon on stream GM
My god, such a great video. The final race was such a thrill, it was never boring. All throughout the race, especially when racing the yellow car, I thought to myself something's gonna happen something's gonna happen and on the final lap I just thought to myself, nah, nothing will happen, he'll just bring it home and get the points. oh boy...
Best UA-cam video I watched in ages. Love your streams, bit this is next level! Ik really jumped up when he rejoined and hit you in the last lap. Keep it coming. 10k next? 😅
Congratulations GM, and well done to DD Girl, couldn't have been easy taking the stress you put her through this last month. Understandably refusing to change her gear for you yet again until she had something new to wear. I imagine She's going to to love the CSI gear she's getting tho.
As I usually race on "clean" and "semi-clean" servers in Wreckfest, racing experience and racecraft is surprisingly much better than average "open lobby"/matchmaking in any sim I've played.
Oh my goodness what an intense last race. Huge respect for this achievement, and for the work you put in. AND - this is easily the best, most hilarious and fun racing video I’ve ever seen. Also - it was almost as fun reading the chat during that last race. WELL DONE!
Was in one of your recent streams by way of a raid from a one Mr. Jarno Opmeer. You said we'd all be disappointed, yet you will be disappointed to know that I was, in fact, not disappointed. You're a charming bloke and I loved this as I'm on a journey to break.... 1K irating. EDIT: Did Tony send the wheel???

He had long ago lost track of time, his life now consumed by this digital world of speed and precision. For him, nothing else mattered but the next race, the next lap, the next challenge. As I watched him, I could not help but feel a sense of sadness for this man. He was trapped in a world of his own making, a world that was both exhilarating and futile. For all his skill and determination, he was racing in circles, chasing a goal that would forever be out of reach. His obsession with this virtual world had blinded him to the beauty and complexity of the real world outside. In his mind, every mistake was a catastrophe, every loss a crushing defeat. He had lost touch with the simple pleasures of life, the feel of the sun on his face, the taste of good food, the joy of human connection. I could see the desperation in his eyes, the fear that this world he had created might someday slip away from him. But even as he acknowledged the emptiness of his existence, he could not tear himself away from the screen. In the end, I left him there, lost in his digital world, his futile obsession with sim racing consuming him. This "sticking the nose in where is NO SPACE" seen in this video is the reason why i dont like iracing. The competitors are often more interested in their irating than good racing!
