With this controller you get easy access to repair options, since most is 3d printed. hot-swappable keyboard switches and a convenient size. Additionally, as it draws from the GP2040 powered by Pico, one of the best low latency input around.
This is definitely my go to recommendation for inexpensive leverless controller, as you described, it's a great way to test if you'll enjoy it without compromising hundreds of bucks. And to be fair, this will be what the vast majority of players will ever need (even to some extent of competitive level for online events).

Glad you liked it, haute and this are the same exact thing except for the casing but internally they are the same. They do ship world wide through allie express as well tho surprised you didn’t use that.
One of the best deals ever. You'll get laughed at whipping this this thing out but they wont laugh for long. I have the absolute cheapest one (around 30 bucks no rgb or anything like that) and it is amazing. I did sand down the buttons (I dont know if that did anything, maybe easier rolling? I just saw that the buttons were high and did it.) and lubed the switches because I know mechanical keyboards.

I bought this controller based on your review, and I love it. I've had the thing for around seven months, and its been great. As far as im concerned the market for leverless controllers is absurdly priced. Especially for something I wasn't sure if I was going to like. $300 for razor's kitsune? $200+ for various controllers that look identical from companies I've never heard of?

Yeah it’s pretty good i am still using it because i liked the wya the official snack box buttons felt on it.
It's soo good! I accidently bought one with no led or screen but just bought the new m16 for $100 thanks for the tip. I can't believe I never tried fighting games with a keyboard. So much better once you get used to it. Took me around an hour, although up symbols in combos break my brain, just need to think of it as a direction + jump button.
Nice m16 seems like a lil more premium version of this not bad. Even comes with the ps4 flash. Due note that the ones that have the dualshock 4 glash are not running rp2040 official software so if you update it you will most likely lose the function if you happen to be on ps.
This one is my first leverless and have been absolutely loving it so far. Fighting games feel so good to me now especially since I always was a MnK gamer so I felt right at home with this. Thankfully found this because I was planning on buying the B1 at first but read it was not good and you made a vid about it being bad too. Want to get a Razer Kitsune in the future since I know I love these type of controllers now. Great vid btw ❤

im new to fighting games and ive been playing keyboard with asd as directionals, space as jump, numpad 789 456 in the layout of the hitbox and my right thumb is open for more keys such as right control/ arrow keys. What would be the benefit for me to swap?

I don’t think mine came with it but i know you can install the software on the pico for it you just gotta rip the memory of a ds4 for it. Since i use the brook converter i Havent found a need for it.

Sounds to me like you prefer the layouts similar to noir which shifts the pinkie buttons down. As for the size, you can simply put the flatbox on a cutting board or lap desk.
Yes let me carry a cutting board around haha. All jokes aside it’s more so the button sizes since i was used to the 30mm ones not only on my other leverless controllers but also my arcade sticks from my past.
For me it doesn't matter which controller i get as long it is affordable and functional lol. Thanks for the review i'll check this controller out.

hmm, i wonder i wonder... how much you could sand the outside super fine and then polish it etc to be more a molded plastic once you clean up the roughness of the 3d printed plastic.
Not a bad idea, i actually sanded the holes for the buttons after this vid a lil. Some of them weren’t perfect and would cause friction on the snackbox buttons.
I picked up one of these recently with the pinks when I saw your post about grabbing one for review 😂 Loving it so far for such a cheap all button layout.
As far as the layout, have you considered swapping your drive parry and drive impact buttons? Might help with the slight layout difference if you play with all four fingers on the top row instead of pinky staggered to bottom row.

Yeah if you are just testing it out it’s a great buy the internals are not bad at all. Later on you can upgrade the buttons and the casing through that discord i linked!

Great video! I bought a Fightbox F8 recently and loved it at first but after a little over a month it has been a headache. The buttons feel weird and I get some strange inputs at times. Definitely thinking about picking this up

@@Hyperion_317 this flatbox has been good also watch the rtu review, it’s been my fave so far and they just made a bigger version of it for only 100$! Google rtu-a4. I loved the rtu just wished it was slightly bigger and they just made that.

I have one of these and it's great but the MAJOR problem you failed to address is how the jump button pops out if you hit it on the sides. It's happened to me countless times
Has never happened to me, have you checked if one of the clips for the button is broken? They gave you an extra button just in case. My caps were hard to remove actually and required extra force so i never had a pop out.
@@FrankieJPlays they may have changed the design since I got mine a good while ago, the snackbox was reportedly having a similar issue so they redesigned that buttons gap, or so they say on their website. Maybe these copied the new design
@@p0tatob0ys i know snackbox had that issue but these caps were on very tight. So much so i actually snapped one inside and had to do surgery in the switch to take it out. I got it a while back too. Then again these are 3d printed things so Quality will be different with each one.
First of all great review, sending this cause I am noticing you are responding to comments - kudos on still doing that even after 2 weeks btw - I am interested in this controller since my budget is a little tight, but I am a little spooked of getting it and then it breaking on me like 2 months later. If you had to take a guess, how long do you think it would last before it needed some sort of repairing\button switching, whatever with like semi daily use?

@@ananasfraise4303 Yeah lol not sure why. For your information though, I did end up getting it and I think it's great, been using it weekly for some months now and it feels like its easily gonna last me years before I need to switch from it or do some form of tampering.
Definitely the most value for money fg controller out there right now imo, aside from keyboard but that's for online use only, can't take it with you for locals etc etc. These things are gonna take over as more people realize they exist.

Hey, you have to use the online tool. If you google gp2040 it should be the first link . There should be a tutorial there on how to get to it.
Thanks for this! I will probably get one of these and then remake the housing. The PCB and switches are worth the $55 to me. The real question I am stuck with is do I buy this or do I save my money and buy a glyph once they actually come out.
If it runs of a pico or uses the rp2040 software just get this.
@@FrankieJPlays Have you seen the glyph? Its a little different. I am a melee player who is starting to dabble in other actual fighting games. The glyph being completely customizable just seems cool.

Pretty cool that you can take the switches out etc for a different layout. The software is what interests me from the patreon i can’t find anything if it’s compatible with ps4/5 or xbox etc only retros and pc.

It’s a great device for starters who want to try out leverless or just a great device in general. I don’t see many people wanting anything else for a while if they get this. The pico board with gp2040 software keeps getting better. They have full ps4 support now if you update and flash a dualshock key etc to it. They also got ps5 support semi working. If you are on the edge i say go for it ! It’s so good for the price.

Yeah you can change the switches to any kailh choc low profile switches of your choice. Also the caps have to be compatible with choc low profile switches. Make sure it’s the original choc or the v1s not the newer v2s those are mx style. Best buttons you can put are the official snackbox ones but you may need to sand the holes a bit since those caps ate a tiny bit bigger. I put those one in the review.

I just got mine in the mail today and am very excited for it as it feels great already, however, I do not know if the rgb is customizable. If it is, how would I change them?
I believe you can customize it through the web app. You access it by holding start or the big red button when plugging the device into the pc the little screen will show web configurator mode if done correctly. Then you go type this ip in your adress in the browser 192.168.7.1

Haute pads were not available at the time of this video. At least not to my recollection but yes haute42 is deff the way to go rn. They are the same thing tho at the end of the day same board etc.
yo, which switches should I get? red, purple, brown and white are the options. I don't know anything about switches. I like seimitsu PS-14 buttons in my regular arcade sticks if that helps any.
Just go with the reds and if you need faster actuation /less force you go order some pinks later on they go for like 10$ for the set. Reds are a perfect medium

@@1roco1 no worries, if you got the one without the screen i believe it should be the function button. If big picture fixed it then leave it as is since messing with that configurator can be challenging.

Yes, it allows you to change socds at will like the rtu. I show it in the video that i love the screen since it tells you what socd and input you are on

Pink but i would just go with silent silvers if you have the choice.
Are these not usable on Console?
They work natively on switch pc and ps3. To make them work on ps4 and ps5 you have to flash em with sone dualshock 4 files. Unfortunately it’s “illegal” so we can’t make video tutorials on it but plenty of forums and stuff to guide you. Otherwise just buy a brook converter for your console its like an extra 20-60$ depending on sale price atm.

reds are a great starting point fast actuation with normal force if you use silvers in your keyboard or anything with less then 40gs go with the pinks for the fastest actuation. i got the reds in mine

Would the gamerfinger buttons fit in the 50$ Flatbox?
Not that i know of as of now since this uses kaiihl switches and they use a different type of cap pattern. Gamer finger buttons are also 30mm and this uses 24 mm

Yes you have to hold one of the fighting buttons when plugging in to change the function of it. If you want to see an example go to the rtu review (normal not a-4) and skip to 3:45

@@talalztube gotta use a brook converter. Check out my latest video that one is cheaper to make work on ps5. If you want native support without adapters your only options are razer kitsune or victrix both over 300$
Just received mine from aliexpress and found that the convex buttons i got from junk food arcade for the snack box micro wouldn't work with this out of the box. The holes for the buttons are too small to use the official ones. Is there any solution for this besides printing a new case with bigger holes for the buttons?
Yes! I actually had to sand the jump button a bit because it kept getting stuck. Just sand the holes out a bit with sand paper or if you got the tools/drill to make em a lil bigger . It’s very easy to take a part no meed for a new case. Only had to to do it to one action button and jump so i guess they are not all printed the same.

@@FrankieJPlays Getting a custom shell, installing RGB lights, changing the switches.
@@radihristov9121 it already comes with RGB and i already show in this video how to disassemble it. You also don’t need to disassemble it to change switches just pull the buttons out and the switches usually come out with it if not watch my b1-pc switch upgrade video and it’s the same process. In the case of a custom shell i would not know where to get one except for commissioning one from the discord i linked. Doing that would make this device no longer “budget” and better off getting another device i have reviewed. Besides the SnackBox buttons which i show in this video i would leave this device as is since it’s meant to be budget/starting point for leverless.
is it normal to not get a confirmation for your order? i just did the payment stuff, then the website turned black with a crazy long new adress and nothing happened.
Don’t order to consistenly on allie express, check bank account see if it only says pending and also message allie express customer service to see if they see an order with your email.

The fact that this is so small for my lap is definitely a big issue. Are there any easy solutions to add a platform to make it wider? I know they have some 3D printed ones for the official snackbox but I'm not sure if they'd fit.

Go with the reds. When it comes to the small buttons ,i don’t mind them granted i barely use those buttons.

Reds 😬 i show em in the video, if you want faster actuation choose the pinks but the reds is what snackbox’s comes with so i wanted that feel. You can swap em and order different ones on amazon etc for like 10-20$ anyways.

could you make a comparison video for who never used different switches? I use a Logitech G815 wich Kaihl Lowprofille Browns (i think) and altho I love it for typing, i much prefer to play tekken on controller than on it that feel with too much travell and strong bump for fighting.@@FrankieJPlays
@@Yamagatabr thats why you go with the reds and if you want the least ammount of travel you would go with the pinks, if you watch my b1 pc upgrade to the silvers you will pretty much get how the reds would be since they are similar. If you want the least amount of force then you would go with the pinks!

@@FrankieJPlays I'm a member of the GP2040-CE community, and for what it's worth, we're not able to support Aliexpress-sourced flatboxes for a whole bunch of reasons (particularly unspecified changes to the firmware that result in the controller ending up bricked if the default firmware gets flashed onto them). Generally speaking, anyone who comes to the server asking for help with a box from Ali is going to get pointed back to the seller for support.
Many local manufacturers are members of the community themselves and a lot of the time will be able to help out directly if you go to the server: because they care about the project and their products and are transparent about how they implement the firmware.

This is not the Snackbox clone, this is the BentoBox clone.
Bento box uses v2 switches which are mx style and 30mm buttons. This is closer to the snackbox only thing the bento shares with this is the software and screen.

Bentobox V1.0 does not have 30mm buttons, they're all 20mm. V1.0 went through a second iteration, which is the "current" bentobox V1.0. It uses Kailh Choc low profile V2 switches.
The first iteration used the basic Kailh Choc low profiles that aren't the plus connector like Cherry MX style. and the button caps were clear instead of black too.
There is now a newer Bentobox V2.0 with a different, and also imo worse design since it's closer to Snackbox Micro. Bentobox 2 now has a single 30mm for up, and the rest 20mm.

@@FrankieJPlays pretty much yeah. Snackbox Micro is quite different. There's quite a few variations of the flatbox. To be fair though, I'm not sure whether bentobox was earlier. I imagine flatbox or similar ones were before anyway since I imagine the GP2040 stuff would've been getting worked on along with the mini display screen from earlier.
