Thank you all so much for all the love in the comments! And a special thanks to those who brought Ren's fundraiser to my attention. This man has given the world the priceless gift of his creative genius, and even though I've only just learned about him, I feel deeply connected to his message, his cause, and his journey. If any of you can spare to donate to help him pay for his medical treatments, please head over to his GoFundMe page and give what you can♥ gofund.me/b0f1006c
Do not miss out on The tale of Jenny and Screech (full) - I guarantee you'll be feeling things you havent before
@@HenningMelon thanks for sharing that gofundme link! He's definitely worth the price of a few fish tacos I normally splurge on but have forgone my normal taco truck and donated to Ren instead! awesome reaction!
that’s his true gift, connectivity. He inspires joy and strength that gets passed along from person to person. It encourages honesty and transparency with yourself to start and ends with the universal truth that we are immortal coins with two sides.
@@loadedorygun 🙌🙌🏾👏👏🏿
So love your reaction Taylor....I laughed so hard when you're first words were Holy Shit! ...I literally said to you...Right!???
The ironic thing is, I think this song truly deserves a Grammy
And a Tony
And maybe an Oscar
more like a noble peace prize due to the amount of people this piece of pure art will help
@@markupton1417 I picture Ren and his great cameraman, Samuel Perry-Falvey, making a movie in the future. I wonder if they ever considered it, because each of their videos packs the power of an entire movie into just a few minutes.
Agree! Also someone should send it to Oprah and see if it inspires her to interview him
"Some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope" Seriously one of the most powerful lyrics I've ever heard.
I agree. That line gets me everytime I've watched this video.
The name of Mercy.
That line wrecked me. Best line in the entire song. 👊🏻
one of the most powerful lines I've ever heard in any song ever!
I originally thought it meant loosen the noose on the rope as in, not getting hanged. But then I saw Renata's reaction and she mentioned mercy, and I remembered there's two ways to die from hanging, snapped neck or suffocation, and how you get the snapped neck is by making the noose part loose so the force of your body dropping down on the rope snaps your neck. Then that line hit so different for me and I cry everytime I hear it, because he's not saying you escape death or anything, it's like he's saying you don't have to punish yourself, sometimes you feel such shame that you want to keep reliving and punishing yourself for it.
unfortunately you only get to hear this song for the first time once. So these reaction videos are the next best thing. This is one of the most amazing works of art I’ve seen in my lifetime. So original and so raw. Just phenomenal!
Thats why im literally listening & watching all the reactions. Want to hear it all the first time again.
It's my favorite thing watching people watch this
Hi Ren is likely the best song I have heard in a decade.
That's accurate
Hot take, but i respect your choice😘
I hope this song never stops touching people.
its quite honestly a masterpiece. one of the greatest musical performances ive ever seen.
It’s legit top 5 performance I’ve ever seen. IMO
It’s incredible
I've listened to this probably 100 times and I still get emotional on the last verse. This song connects with me on such a deep level. I've battled depression and have always been super self-analytical. I've battled that critical inner "voice" my entire life.
It's the visual of him standing up to the lyrics too
Damnit. I've listened to this song about 30 times on my own and watched like 40 reactions of it and I still tear up. At least I'm not weeping anymore. I'm fearful for the day that the tears dry up and it's all just a vague connection to the feeling the song invoked some time ago.
Same lol
That's where the reaction videos are so valuable... the words and emotions of those experiencing Hi Ren for the first time help us recapture our initiation.... and rejoice in theirs.
Ren has been trying hard to respond to everyone that has reacted to this (which is cool in itself), but it has been so viral that he has trouble keeping up. He is now undergoing treatment in Canada and will be there for a bit. He wants to be known for his music, not his past, but both are really the story in this song. He recently posted on his page the latest on his health explaining exactly where he is at and asked all who reacted and who are curios to be pointed back there in order to keep his incoming mail and messages and such down.
www.youtube.com/@RenMakesMusic/community
Ren is like watching the Matrix for the first time, there is no going back, made me look inside myself and at my flaws.
Good and the bad.
Yin and yang.
If I told you my story your skin would crawl, I can't even say it on here.
With the least words, your reaction surpassed any of the countless "Hi Ren" reaction videos I've seen. It DOES leave one dumbfounded. Words interfere with feeling the aftermath of its impact. You were REAL. 👏👏👏
I've watched loads of reaction videos, but this is the first that felt almost voyeuristic. Thank you for letting us watch you experience something so profound. Two special moments stood out - the glimpse at the camera when acknowledging the "loosen the noose on the rope" gut punch, and the glee when the operatic singing theme returned.
Wow, thank you for sharing that
This song, and Ren, has its hook in me. I’ve been surfing through reaction videos. Thank you for yours. It’s honest.
Yes! My suggestion. Been following you for years so I KNEW you would appreciate it. It makes me happy to share things I connect with myself.
The tale of Jenny and screech (full) should be next in terms of Ren reaction. It's a story of 3 songs put together, (with the last song being the climax)
Yes! I agree that Jenny and Screech's tale should be next and then to see how versatile he is, listen to "Money Game part 2 ".
@@Faybaugh there is a part 2? I can’t wait to see everything he has in store for us while he is seeking treatment in Canada
I suggest the song Power, or the song Chalk Outlines, or What You Want, or heck ANY of them!
I also suggest Genesis. Obviously not the band, that would be stupid. I may be drunk but I am not that unless I'm very drunk. Anyway, back to the start, Genesis, just mind-blowingly awesome. You want a bard that has lived his many tales in some form or another, then Ren is your man. Don't expect happy endings.
You should listen to the song about violet first before jenny and screech :)
"It's an eternal pendulum....and the more intentensly that the light shown....the darker the shadow it cast"
Powerful words, powerful thoughts.
We all needed a moment after it.
I love how everybody smiles or laughs in amusement at the yodeling at the beginning and then smile in adoration or amazement when he comes back to it at the end...
Great reaction. Watch Chalk Outlines (live) to hear a totally different Ren. Enjoy your Ren journey!
Is it a totally different Ren? I felt like it was pretty similar. Raw, soul touching, emotion evoking, beautifully composed.
I second this choice!
@@jimmyshea6209 Yes, I agree with that aspect being similar. I meant that, in the other videos, the full effect of his gorgeous vocals can be experienced. I live his singing voice!
@@JennyAnton ah I see, yeah I agree!
The busking ones are good as well!
Thank you for this wonderful reaction video. Maybe you missed the words but your face spoke volumes. I can only agree. An ingenious and at the same time absolutely honest masterpiece by Ren
Ren gives so many of us a voice & hope
I LOVE music SOOO much! You can sit down happy as can be without knowing what is about to happen. THEN, within 10 minutes you can have an experience that changes, moves, and or resonates with you so profoundly that you are shocked speechless and almost in tears. I've had tears EVERY listen though.
Ren has the same gift for "conversational cadence" that Eminem has... And (just like Em) I'm 100% positive Ren's life experience was necessary for him to be chosen to create this It transcends music and even entertainment There is a visceral nature to this that creates a moment and places one smack in the middle of it, as if it were live and you were there in the moment it is being created. Even re-watching it takes one right back to that place. It's not just music. It's something else.
Very nicely done . You actually listened with us instead of pausing every 10 seconds to decipher everything. Really appreciate the way you took it in .
Beautiful Job !!! ❤
Taylor, I have watched a ton of reaction channels and you are that rare person who gets that you cannot keep stop-starting-commenting to fully assess the art in front of you. That aside, your reaction was identical to mine. I was stunned for days. I still am. This performance still brings me to tears depiste viewing it, maybe, 20 times or more. Anyway, nice one.
I would pay $1000 just to watch this song live. It's like something I've never seen done so well and so raw and real.
Very moving, and profound, a gift of RENS very personal life experience. Taylor, thank you for not pausing the video. When I first experienced
"Hi Ren" I too was speechless and emotional and I'm 71 years old. Ren is a wonderful human being. I am grateful for having had the opportunity to hear and see this very real and talented young man. I have shared and will continue to share Rens story.
This video is literally life changing. I'm absolutely stunned and I'm four weeks into it!
haha me too, haven't been so obsessed with a single piece of music for yearss. Absolute modern-day masterpiece
Ive watched countless reactions to this song. Yours is hands down the one i enjoyed the most so far. Stay the way you are. Just honest and not try being fancy. Thanks alot for this reaction video.
Thank you! Will do!
Thank you for not pausing this masterpiece.
At this point, with so many reactions out there to Hi Ren, if the reactor keeps pausing, I stop watching the video.
If the reactor doesn't get that he needs to shut his gob, a few minutes in, I leave. The pausing should stop once they realise they are watching a genius at work.
If I get a bar-repeater, I'm out.
@redbandita020 Hear, hear! I'm sick and tired of 'reacters' making their videos all about them. The pausing abruptly switches the emphasis back to their need to seek attention.
Yes, I'm interested in reactions and reflections, but they should always come after the song has finished.
There are honourable exceptions.
@@StonefieldJim4 The thing is, lately, after discovering Tom MacDonald (#HOG), I watch a lot of bar heavy reactions, and with pp like Cliff Beats, I seriously enjoy the dissection.
However, Hi Ren is special, and any music lover with an IQ higher than his shoe size should realise that this is not your generic rap tune and STFU.
I look out for other reaction features, the actual in-the-moment reaction.
The answer to the Oo-oo melody almost 100% triggers, "I did not expect that", but then, you see ppl with their mouths open.
Loads can't handle the "Newsflash" and following, most (men) react to the "loosen the noose" line. Even if it's just a lifted eyebrow.
But for me, the above separates the "good" reactors from the chaff.
Ren is a genius and can't stop watching reaction videos of this. It gets me every time and always brings a tear to my eye. Thank you for a touching reaction
Great reaction; your facial expressions spoke volumes. I just subscribed. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 3.5 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s songs are generally recorded live in a single take. His latest release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." I am 57 y/o, and I only recently learned about Ren and have gone down this rabbit hole ever since. Many of his songs resonate with me because he addresses struggles that I myself face every day.
He plays multiple instruments, has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. Check out the trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet." It is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion; WATCH THEM IN THE STATED ORDER, as this is the flow of the storyline or just watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full),” which includes “Violet’s Tale at the end. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling.
Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. I would watch the official live music videos. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation.
His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability.
Ren just released his latest single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren."
Terrific reaction!
The perfection in your not having the words to express is, well, perfection
Many many thanks for putting ren up on your channel please read the history of ren love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
Beautiful reaction!
This modern masterpiece needs to be part of every high school curriculum.
Liked and subscribed 👍 I really hope you go further down the Ren rabbit hole! ✌❤💪
Just heard this song a few days ago, and it is probably the weirdest yet one of the most moving songs I’ve ever heard
Take your time…I heard this for the first time over a week ago. I’m still reacting to it.
The two sides of him in the song is compelling, but the representation of the forces of light and dark is also very well done. It’s masterful, in every way. It’s part song, part an acted out play.
The rise of hope from the chaos monologue moves me to tears every single time.
As someone who has had struggles with depression, the pendulum description is amazingly accurate. You always know the darkness is there, you just don’t want to swing to far to that side.
It would seem to me, to be this raw, Ren has been as close to the edge of the abyss as you go…and still return.
That song is the most REAL thing I have ever seen in music. That conversation is something I have struggled with for decades, and only now am I beginning to understand myself and my shadow, and taking care of both.
It's not often you run across two amazing artist in less than a week (Ren, Sleep Token). They have both inspired me to get back to my artistic side.
The struggle is real. 🤜🤛
In exactly the same way that we can all appreciate the raw honesty of Ren bearing his soul, watching you struggle to come to terms with, and articulate, the emotions you were feeling, despite clearly being very eloquent, was so engaging. I really enjoyed that 90% of your reaction could be read in your eyes as you were watching the video. You deserve a subscription for this alone. Great reaction and I too would echo the hope that people go to Ren's channel and show him some love - he is a rare, rare talent.
Another beautiful Merry Wren to Rens mounting ttribe of fans
I’ve been looking for this reaction. Someone who just knows. The pendulum is a phenomenal way to describe it. Ren’s honesty and vulnerability made this. I no longer feel on my own. I have a new insight. Still a student after many years. Thank you Taylor 🙏
Taylor, you are a beautiful person. That "song" hit close to home in some form or fashion, and that's okay. We all feel the same way.
I really enjoyed your reaction. This piece tends to be a reflection of so many of us looking into a mirror at our internal dialog. I feel like everyone has a moment in this song where their face changes and they say F*ck, this is me. You don't have to try not to cry watching this performance. It actually provides permission for so many to open up the dam and let the tears we've been holding back for so long flow out. Through Ren's' vulnerability, we have been allowed the same grace for ourselves. Just amazing.
My favourite reaction! You just let it play and reacted to it from your heart. A new subscriber! Ren is a star - he is very special - so glad you are spreading his music. Please react to more! x
This isn't a song, it's a journey. Yes, art. But then art doesn't really sum it up. He's a genius that's open and honest. Thanks for reaction. It gave me another opportunity to hear Ren and watch yet another person who's left speechless by his work.
Enjoyed your reaction...Ren penetrates the soul and immerses the mind with his genius talent.
Trilogy Jenny's, Screech, Violets tale full, modern day minstrel/bard, or for his versatility, band he was in Big Push and their version of I shot the sheriff/ Road to Zion/ Hip Hop.
Loved the way you made this video. Thank you ❤
Ren is Art
Loved your reaction! What a heavy hitting song. Beautiful
And... that's what genious looks and sounds like.
Ren rabbit hole. Please do more . Like others have said…… we only get to see these for the first time once .
Watching reactors give us the opportunity to share in their speechless moments is amazing .
Thank you and cheers 🍻 🙂🇨🇦
That’s raw, honest and powerful !! I loved your reactions Taylor.
I’ve watched Hi REN and now more of his reactions so many times now and I still feel it like the first time.
more ren!. im subbing just to see what you do next. i loved your reaction
First time I ran into your channel. You are legit Beautiful & I liked & subbed. It's ok to cry.
Your reaction is on point. I watch this song everyday and I get choked up every time. Amazing song reaction. Thanks 😊❤
Loved your reaction ❤️ When you added the text about you trying not to cry it hit me hard, that's the exact point that I broke down the first time I heard it. Subbed 🔥
Great reaction, and listening to you talk at the end was just right lol. Got a new sub.
You are such a precious and beautiful soul, dear Taylor. I loved watching this video, and especially loved your facial expressions at the very end, and then your beautiful inability to find words adequate enough to express what you just experienced. That in itself is the perfect reaction to this truly extraordinary video. Thank you for being so genuine, so vulnerable, so expressive. I am a happy new subscriber to your wonderful channel. Keep on being wonderful you. ❤
Beautiful reaction!
Great reaction! This song is genius. You have a new subscriber.
Great reaction, one of the most genuine reactions to this masterpiece I’ve seen and the fact you didn’t keep stopping it was a bonus👌👌👌
Great reaction video! Thanks for sharing your raw emotion as well! He got me too. Wait until you dive into his catalog of music. He is truly a master of his craft. I listen to this daily.
I dont know what hits me the hardest. The Vulnerability , the incredible talent , the way this could change the whole musical landscape ...I feel like I just witnessed the beginning of a new era .
Love your reaction Taylor. I've watched this video 3 times a day for the last 10 days and I still walk away with the same reaction. Life changing shit here. Thanks for your reaction and thanks Ren.
This kid is a true blessing to all those who actually love music with a story and pain behind it. What an absolutely beautiful masterpiece of art that can never be taken away from you once you hear it. He will forever own a piece of my soul , real shit.
I love your reaction channel best. You let it play instead of constantly stopping it. Subscribed.

Ever since I first saw this video I've watched A Lot of reaction videos on it. Your's is the best so far.. understated, heartfelt..
It made me cry when I first saw it, and I love crying with you..
Thank you for your great reaction. I loved seeing the impact this song had on you. While this song has brought me to tears by itself multiple times, watching your reaction did as well. You can see the emotion on your face. Thanks for sharing a little bit of you with us. I appreciate your work!
I've watched a few reactions to this, and I can tell you without doubt that yours is the only appropriate reaction. It takes a while to sink in with this level of pure ,raw artistic genius. Thank you.
Thanks, Taylor! Like the song, you had a nice, raw reaction and I think it was great :) sub'd and liked, look forward to seeing more!
Stumbled on your page watching reactions to this amazing song. Great work here, and glad to be a new subscriber. Keep up the great work!!👍👍
Seeing the look in your eyes when you got it. Priceless hun. Ty
I enjoyed the fact that you played the whole vid without stopping.
Love that you're speechless. Ren's music is art and genius. I've listened to most of his and The Big Push, busking in Brighton, UK. Just brilliant!! His Podcasts with friends are awesome too.
Wonderful reaction. Love what he did to you.
Ren is a poetic genius, and an amazing musician too. I loved your reaction, it was quite moving to see you react to this.
Whoa damn, glad I found this channel! Such a gorgeous ..... nevermind! What a nice reaction video to one of most raw and emotional video/songs/pieces of artistic expression I've ever heard or seen!
thanks for the wonderful reaction. this performance is a true work of art. I have watched it so many times, and my reaction has yet to change.
It was beautiful to see how much you connected with this. The first time around, I was utterly stunned at what I had just witnessed. it's such a strong piece of art. Dive into the guy, it's so very worth seeing all the stuff he can do.
it's absolutly OK to cry! thanks for your heartfelt reaction
You said it, it's so raw and straight from the heart, it's really hard to react to, because it fills you up with all these emotions. But you did very well, great reaction video.
Your´re just lovely and you have the same expresion on your face that we all portrait encountering such a piece of art!!! bless you!!
Hello, I listen and love Ren's work since several years now, and I like to watch reaction's video, I saw a flip load of them, and I'd like to say that you were the prettiest, your reaction was so sincere, so true. Thank you, hope you'll continue
Beautiful reaction. I loved that you listened to the entire song with no pausing.
This is how you do a reaction!!!! Great job!!
First time on your channel. Was a fan from the moment i realized you were wearing a TOOL shirt. This song hits pretty close to home for me and reacted about the same way you did the first time i heard it. Thanks for your honesty. What a performance by Ren and what a piece of art and what a gift to the world this song is. 🤘👍
thank you for sharing,,This song will make about anyone shed a tear..A True rare masterpiece.
First time on your channel, Taylor. I loved your reaction to this masterpiece! Sometimes words fail us, but the look on your face spoke volumes. Subscribed. As a Tool fan, I'll now need to check out any of your Tool reactions. (Seeing Tool in concert is one of my top 5 concert experiences.) Looking forward to more of your reactions. BTW, ♥those eyes!!
NOTHING gives me more joy than watching EVERY reaction to this song and seeing the profound effect it has on each and every person who sees/hears this masterpiece! I've watched about 30 and tear up and get emotional every single time! It's still getting better each time!! lol!! AND, I'm losing a few pounds from crying buckets of tears of joy!! Thanks for reacting to this!!
I reckon your reaction is my favorite so far (and I’ve watched over 90 so far). I imagine it will remain so bc you’re so genuine.. like the song. You’ve an expressive face so I felt like I should’ve done a reaction to your reaction video!🤣 Had to sub too.
Blessings to you and yours.
I’ve watched many reaction vids to Ho Ren over the last couple weeks, and I’ve yet to see anyone pause or talk between the end of the music and the spoken word. Thankyou for giving such an honest heartfelt reaction. When you said “I need a moment” I know exactly what you meant. This song is still giving me actual goosebumps after many listens.
Pure reaction. Well done.
That is more than a song, more than storytelling, more than the music.
It's theatre, art and so powerful that I am in awe!
Thank you for the reaction. I wish I could hear this song again for the first time again. It’s absolute poetry
Great Reaction. Being a 90's teenager to young adult I've never seen an artist I have loved & enjoyed so much!
You really didn’t need to say anything afterwards your face and eyes said it all, I know it’s been suggested already but the tale of Jenny and screech full version is just epic as all his music is, chalk outlines live is also amazing. Awesome genuine heartfelt reaction, new sub and much love from 🇬🇧
Loved your reaction, I cried, a masterpiece.
Thank you for the amazing reaction, you had the exact same reaction as i did when i first saw and heard this.
The first thing i did when i saw it was to sub to him and then go to his fundraiser.
It would be an immense tragedy if the world lost such a creative genius willing to be so vulnerable.
It takes an extremely extraordinary person to be this vulnerable!
I think this is one of the most powerful pieces of art i have ever seen and heard.
