It makes me sad that all forms of entertainment now are so, so fearful of "offending" someone, that they spend the whole show apologizes and tap dancing around a msg. The point gets lost in all of the fluff. One thing I know for sure, there is someone who woke up this morning with a chip on their shoulder looking forward to someone accidentally or intentionally bumping into them so they can knock it off and be hacked off and angry for the rest of the day. Our current state.

So agree about the lifestyle comment. Now I always ask myself "where am I going in this?" and many times I pass on whatever I am considering purchasing. So helpful. Agree on most everything you mentioned :)

Your point about trends not fitting our lifestyle went over my head regarding the classic suiting pieces. I get it when metallic and sequin fabrics don't fit my lifestyle, or might be an occasional tongue and cheek statement like sparkle sneakers. But I cannot imagine trousers and blazers not being appropriate for any lifestyle or activity except the beach or picnics. With all the washable fabrics out there now, there's no reason to avoid tailored pieces when doing laundry, picking up the kids or grocery shopping. Full-on gardening might be pushing it a bit far, but pruning a few stems should be ok. It's part of making every day special and not "saving" clothes only for infrequent "special" occasions. Maybe the lifestyle conflict is solved by avoiding dry-clean-only garments. Embrace the cream colored trousers and relax because you can wash them. There's no need to feel stuck in blue jeans uniforms just because your kids' hands get sticky.
I would also enjoy your thoughts on not going too far with accessories. Not being too matchy-matchy and not too much metal. For example, your skirt today would have looked great with a brown leather belt with an interesting . But if you had worn a belt, would you have removed the statement earrings?

I can totally see her point about styles not fitting our lifestyle but getting caught up in them because they're trending. I bought a couple of blazers but never wear them because they look too "dressed up" for the places I go.

I think your laundry experiences must be different than mine! All my laundering isn’t magic and things do stain. I’ve always had work clothes, play clothes, church clothes and special occasion clothes. My lifestyle doesn’t call for special occasion clothes much anymore, I haven’t been to a wedding in ages, and church isn’t as dressy as it used to be in days of yore, but I for sure have good clothes. I can’t sprall on the couch in fitted clothing.

    • @liliyalopez8998
      @liliyalopez8998 7 місяців тому +4

I think she meant head-to-toe office core classic pieces. Realistically, very few professions require their employee to dress like this. So yeah, this trend doesn't fit most people’s lifestyle anymore even if they work from the office.

You are spot on. Lived through the 80's don't need to do it again. The suits don't fit my lifestyle unless it's a special event. I agree we shouldn't feel the need to participate in every trend. Metallics and sequins are also reserved for special events. The only exception might be accessories.

Here is my take on these trends. Metallics are good in small doses and shoe or hand bag. Sequins maybe for certain occasions. The whole suiting/office wear trend i am sick of. I spent more than 30 years in the corporate world, been there. I prefer a more boho look. Less masculine more girlie, more color.
XL bags hurt my shoulders and back!

Metallic head-to-toe was my fashion choice for a BIL's wedding in 2022. I received so many compliments and, considering it was stepping out of my comfort zone and being a 'neutral-palette, corporate-elegance' type of woman, I felt really comfortable and beautiful. However, on a day-to-day basis, I wouldn't wear metallic anything. For a dinner or some kind of celebration (birthday, anniversary, wedding etc.), I would re-wear it again (or combine with other materials).

As a handbag lover/collector, I feel like I’ve been hearing “BIG bags are coming back, you guys!” every season for the past five years. There are a few that break through - the Icare by Saint Laurent, the Margaux from the Row - but by and large I’m not seeing them in the real world. Could just be where I live. Maybe others are seeing them?

Thanks, always enjoy your trend summaries. Although I can't say I agree with the concerns about clothes ageing us. I'm 50 often mistaken for younger, but I just don't care if I look my age. I think we should embrace whatever trends ffloats our boat. I look at many young people and they don't seem hung up about size, age or shape. I think it's fine to proceed with caution on some trends, but if you like metallics or 80s style dressing, I say Go For It. True style is not phased by trends, IMO.

Lightweight, washable/wipable oversized tites are very practical. Why not choose ones that look great instead of a Home Goods logo bag that ruins an outfit. Price makes a big difference when picking up groceries. When shops give you a paper bag without a handle, its nice to have a sturdy tote with a rip resistant handle that spreads out the pressure points on your hand, arm or shoulder. I am looking for multiples of solid color nylon bags that are lightweight enough to fold and carry in a pocket or a small purse. And there are so many good options for insulated bags to carry lunches to the office, pick up carryouts on the way home or protect a few frozen items.

It was a vibe! I got so many compliments and it was all pieces I already owned… I’m a girly girl I’ve always been so I love ballet core mixed with office core since I am a Millenial who already did the semi formal clubbing scene back in 2010 it feels very at home for me to mix these styles lol

You’re so right about certain trends. The aluminum dress or gold wrapping paper as dresses or pants are SO UGLY even for 19year olds. The huge bags are making one feel like pack animal. Everyone will be carting around heavy machinery in a sack soon. Then bows that are so huge or so bright that no one can see anything else but a BOW🎀🎀🎀
And have you ever noticed the heavy women wear tiny shorts. Omg! I always wonder if they have mirrors in their homes
Yes the solution is NOT never using trends the secret is to use them : DISCRETELY 😉
I just bought a gown for my son’s wedding. The bow on the bodice matches the dress and is makes the dress look even more appealing because
it updates the plain black dress to a designer level and it’s hardly noticeable
So I love a good trend and I also love to use them to elevate a look rather than dominate the look.

I love the ideas for wearing hair bows when you feel like you're a little too old for them. Like the hair bow earrings and the bows on the shoe and in the hair! I'm at 32 about to turn to 33 and I just don't want to be one of those women who is trying to cling to her youth! I had a friend in high school and her mom was like that. This is in the early 2000s and the mom was always wearing the low rise matching juicy sweatsuits with like a crop top. And she was over 40. And it just made me cri...nge so.hard. it was so bad. Every single time I saw her she was dressed like she was a teenager. Everyone made fun of her daughters too. It was so bad. I swore i would never be like that.

Fringe/ sub trends are not my style. I like to mix trendy things with my more classic core items. I prefer men’s style tailored clothing, mixed with feminine elements that suit my esthetic. I really dislike the super sheer and super shiny looks. The continued mermaid core is more cartoonish than real life for me. But everyone should wear whatever suits their own personal style.

Great video! I look to you for fashion sense. A lot of trends out there are nonsense. It’s also exhausting and expensive to try and keep up. I fell into a trend hole more often than I like to admit and wind up giving the items away. So I buy a bow pin or wear 3 rosette pins on a blazer. Carrying and oversized bag is awful if you are older and live in the city with no car…things get really heavy really fast. I used to wear a lot of vintage pieces but as I am vintage myself it just looks dated. I love fun modern architectural pieces like Awake-Mode and tailored pieces like The Frankie Shop. I love maxi’s and fitted knit dresses from Skims. I tend to trend up with shoes and sunnies. As I am 69 all the looks for women my age are so boring. I tend to trend younger looks but with caution. One issue I have is with shoes. I have several chunky bottom shoes that were pretty expensive and I don’t know what to do with them now. It’s like they are out they are in… so confusing… for example I have a pair of McQueen rave boots. I was going to sell or gift them but then I saw a dupe on Zara’s last week. I will give something away that I never wear and then poof it’s a trend the next minute. It’s hard to keep up. I appreciate all your suggestions. Hugs x 😎

The only one of these “trends” I’ll wear is the Classic Styling one, it’s just my personal style. Most lifestyles easily allow at least some elements of this style, how hard is it to throw on a blazer instead of a track jacket? Classic styling has always worked well for me because there are always updated, modern versions available. Nor am I obsessed with looking younger than I am, 63. I don’t buy many trends except those that I think are versatile and relatively timeless, and high-quality. Also, many “trends” are initiated and promoted by brands’ designers specifically to push cheap synthetic fabrics like polyester, which I can’t wear. This year’s sheers, lace fabrics, mesh, etc. are good examples of this. Thanks for the update, Leonie.

Thanks for the video! I don’t agree with you only in a one point; you’re speaking about “trends to avoid”, but honestly you’re speaking about a good taste and bad taste kinds of dressing in a normal daily life. That’s how it called when I was a teen)

Thanks for sharing a glimpse of your son. When you follow a content creator regularly and enjoy their personality, you also wish you knew a bit more about their life . I do realize why you keep many things private, though!

It's a no to Excel bags. The models on the catwalk are carrying them empty ahahaha. As for metallics, I would limit it to one piece - whether clothing or accessories. I do have silver trousers, and they make you visible in dark streets 😁

While I agree that runway is often hard to translate into everyday style, I don't agree that simply because one may be over 40, that "toning it back" isn't an ageist view. Have you seen Advanced Style? One of the freedoms of age is frankly not giving a hoot to the culturally imposed narrative that assigns gender and age particular clothing. If it makes a person feel uplifted, expressive and alive that is really all that matters. One can watch the trends and the art of the runway and create style from those expressions. It has very little to do with age, race, or gender. Just my thought. I'm not sure head to toe bows or sequins would be business casual for anyone. So let's not limit ideas based on age.

For some reason I always forget to do that. Both pieces are quite old unfortunately. The mesh top I've owned for about 10 years (truly) and the skirt is about six months old from Zara x

❤ video. You are too polite. The short shorts are knickers. They look awful on a woman of any age and shout "look at me". Finally, you're entitled to an opinion, we can like it or lump it. You've been around fashion for decades. You speak from experience.

I love a huge bag. It holds my stuff, all of which I use. I also carry around a mini fan, water bottles, and an iPad. I have a huge soft leather Calvin Klein bag. I hope this trend stays. I get annoyed trying to use a medium sized bag. Because it’s hard to even get anything from the bag.

I'm imagining all the business for all the massage therapists, etc out of the very thin women portrayed carrying a fully-loaded XL bag. I like a decent size leather bag to bring my laptop for business, but those looked more like your carry-on luggage!

I honestly do not understand Runway, because in all honestly, very few likely dresses like Runway presentations. I been around clothing for years, especially in New York, Paris, and have yet to see Runway clothing worn by everyday person. So for me comparing trends to Runway just seem wasteful, but then I only control my eyes.

I agree with you about avoiding the 80's style, I lived through that and I tell you it was not pretty. I avoid revival ! But it is great for younger generations, they find it fun.

I like to joke that the giant bags are to hold the pants you forgot to put on! 😂 I am 60 and I like the current retro trends on younger people but when I try it I feel like an old lady that forgot to modernize her style!

I agree with most of your misses. I was in middle and high school for most of the eighties, so no, I will not be revisiting that trend again. The bows thing. I was questioning that trend. As a 50+ person, I felt as though it was a look that would be way too juvenile for me. The aquatic looks can miss me all together. Great video❤

That was a fun video! I’m in complete agreement with you, especially your advice about considering one’s lifestyle before buying any new pieces. I’ve been guilty of that myself and I end up donating those clothes because I never wear them.
