So I see a lot of people using GAIA but having to have internet to download sections of maps seems a pain. Have you ever looked into Avenza Maps? Wonder if this would work in an overlanding situation?
My wife and I are slowly building our Tacoma that we just purchased. Our first big trip will be this September through Utah, Arizona and Nevada. We have truly enjoyed your videos and we both think that what you are doing as a family is one of the most priceless gifts you may give your daughter. We look forward to watching all your upcoming videos on your travel adventures.
I could watch your videos all day. So very well done and the right amount of interaction with action. Your voice could calm an argument anywhere. So great are the stories your daughter will be able to share and memories to last a lifetime. I remember the time I took my family back to my birth state of Alaska back in 1998. My boys were 7 and 9. We took the Alaska marine highway from Bellingham to Juneau. I wish I would have documented it like you are doing. My point is that my boys still talk about that trip and how much fun they had. I look forward to watching many more of your videos. Living a little through your experiences.
I know exactly what you are talking about toward the end of this video. I have a 2016 4Runner Trail, too and just done a 4 day camping trip in Death Valley about 2 weeks ago. I have been on the off road through Titus Canyon in your other video also and it was a sight to remember. It was hot as hell but still I enjoyed it so much. A man can really feel free out there. The sight of the vast empty land of Death Valley is enough to humble a man to his knees. I recommend to everyone I know to get out there in Death Valley and get lost out there (figuratively of course). I have been to Mahogany Flat campground, which is located in high elevation, and the temperature up there was just perfect. I had a blast camping there. If anyone wants some solitude that is the place to go. I really enjoy watching your videos. Good luck and keep it up guys.
Never looked at the 4 runner's as a oasis for help you are a good man happy father day looking forward to meeting you in my travels and just throw up a thumb up in passing
You guys are AWSOME. My family is just getting into camping and such. Some other overland videos from competition use vehicles that must cost 100,000 dollars, of course you can go anywhere with them. I realize you have sponsors, but you guys remind me of a regular family on vaca that has limited funds and on top of that your cinemetography is incredible and your videos are truely informative.
Thanks Scott! While we have a handful or products that were supplied we are actually sponsored by our viewers on patreon.com. We would love to keep it that way! Thanks so much for the feedback!
“We’re just going to run into town today” that’s awesome! Especially when a run to town is a full day from the warm springs! I’m planning on doing the Steele pass road this fal after it cools down, always wanted to, but never have. Thanks for the great videos!
Hi guys! Love the vids. My wife and I have been over landing for many years/decades but have not full timed it yet. We’ve got a 2010 FJ Cruiser fully built up and a 2009 Tundra built up with a pop top camper. We love Death Valley too and the Eastern Sierra is so close with so much variety. We live on the coast, north of San Diego in Carlsbad Village. If you’re looking for a driveway to pit stop at we have room. We are under a mile to the beach. Enjoy!
Having the tablet to get/clear codes is great. Some newer vehicles will provide code info (using the dash electronics) and clear the codes if you preform a certain “start sequence”. It prolly would have been limited like what the torque pro gave you, but might help in a pinch with no internet and no torque pro. Awesome vid!
"Rollin' rollin' rollin', keep them hounddogs rollin', overland...wind and rain and weathe. We all stay together, keeping them Hound dogs by our side..." How that awning do in rain? I like the way it sets up. I saw gold in that pan! Gold y'all!! Y'all are rich! Rich I tell ye!
Well, you got my sub on this first video I've seen of ya'll. "...don't have anywhere to be..." or is it more like don't have anyONE to be? Like, who am I without my job, and if THAT resonates, who was I WITH one... like, who am I essentially. Love this. Beautiful lil' fam, guys. Props... and thanks.
Another great video as usual. I spotted few things. That Shell Station in Big Pine that you guys got fuel, belongs to my good friend Frank and he also has a good mechanic just in case if any one should have a breakdown. Also perhaps one day you guys should visit Squaw or Papoose Flat and the Narrows, or hopefully one day I can meet you guys so we can go up there together which is very close to Eureka Dunes/Death Valley Road. The PAIUTE Indians use to occupy and live in the White Mountains for thousands of years and up until 1930’s and you can see the remains of that era. One the must see places. I was up there 3 days ago. Cheers
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. Really appreciate the local knowledge too, we are going to be relying on it heavily as we travel. Would love to see those remains some day.
If you don’t have a scanner remove both battery cables and touch them together. Turn on the lights door open etc. drain all voltage in the system/systems that will clear any hard faults, or codes for that matter as long as there are no failures.
Great video and happy Father’s Day. Keep up the great work. I am sitting here watching with my son and it is inspiring us to load the 4Runner and just go. Thank you for inspiring so many people to relax more and spend time and cherrish those moments with family.
Thanks for watching! The burros actually prefer cardboard products! They took a whole box of wine last year, ripped the wine bag out, and tried to eat the box. 😲
If u need video idea after a few more locations an miles- how about a video of mechanical problems with 4Runner while overlanding so others no what to expect when they head down the desolate road to adventure, thanxs love the vids
If it ever breaks down then we will do that! Haha! We haven't had any issues yet and we are at 109K of harsh usage! Thanks for the video suggestions and support!
Did you know that your gas cap will slip in between the two small tabs located on the gas cap door in stead of dangling on the lanyard? Fun facts! Also a fan fact: you produce awesome videos!
Good morning boys what road you got in to valley or is there a map that I can use thanks it looks great I Southern California not to far and will be a good time to do this trip and question do you have lookers or just 4x4 thanks
What are some common issues that you come across with your rig and turtle while you're out on the road? That would be a good video topic perhaps. Troubleshooting. Love what you are doing. Definitely inspiring. Even on UA-cam this channel provides an "escape" from the Urban Jungle. Take care.
That's a great topic. Honestly we haven't had any "common" issues. We've had an uncommon issue with the 4Runner that will get covered in a future episode. Thanks for riding along with us!
Good point! We are both are license holders, just didn't cross our minds at the time since we have the satellite texting capabilities. Will keep that in mind! Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much! Best if luck on your build and we hope to see you out there! The music is all from EpidemicSound.com I just haven't had the time to detail every song.
Ford, Hummer what else?.. Thats why i only drive yotas..i have a 2020 4runner TRD ORP.. Sick Rig btw..new subscriber here..Cool videos..Love the travels..Cant wait to finish my rig and stary venturing.
Thanks so much! That is a propane tank holder from Turtleback Trailers with a 20lb tank for our fire pit and buddy heater. Speaking of food prep, it's an upcoming video, and one of Sarah's first! Stay tuned!
I enjoy your channel especially now that you all are doing overlanding full-time. If it’s ok to ask, how do you keep from going flat broke given that the equipment, wear/tear, & maintenance needed can be costly? I lived & worked in the remote Rockies of CO & WY for 3.5 years helping people recover from wildfire losses, so I got more than the usual wear & tear from remote West Texas ranching. Thanks & safe travels
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! The reality is that we are slowly going broke. We sold a few assests to invest in this adventure but if supporters or sponsors don't jump in eventually then we will have to go back to work again. We have some side work we do on the road but it's not at a level that covers our needs.
Just discovered your videos and watching them from ep1. Love how your dog goes with you on your adventure. Where does the dog sit when you’re travelling from one spot to the next?
I used to think it was great to go to death valley with tons a crap, trailers, gear and spend all that money. i have more fun now exploring DV with my F250, tent cots and everything i need in the bed. no shell, no camper, 40 gal. tank, never need spare gas cans. I will never miss my trailer. Just like i don't miss my lawn. But hey, great video and great times, KUDOS
Love these videos! Prolly gonna but that awning now. Will you be sharing your Gaia routes so we can try the same trails too? If not maybe coordinates to those cool spots like the hot springs?
We will eventually get around to processing some of our routes. I can't promise everything will be there but enough to get you started. Some of the spots will require some exploring!
Nice vids, had no idea the ECU could do that. I may need to invest in that app. I'm guessing you have to also buy the device to plug in? I'm not too familiar with that stuff. I have a 12 Tacoma 4x4, maybe it's old enough to not have these problems? I'm tempted to do a long trip to death valley when it cools off. I've done many day trips, but never overnight.
Good job on your videos. Yup I bet it’s scary doing your thing... I have a tech question. The hitch your using on the trailer do you know the brand name and were one can be purchased? I have a 1640 ESP and it sets high. I need a hitch configuration like yours. Hang in there. I have been camping and exploring for a while. At 62 I am getting more and more time to do what your doing. I applaud you for your bravery!

So I see a lot of people using GAIA but having to have internet to download sections of maps seems a pain. Have you ever looked into Avenza Maps? Wonder if this would work in an overlanding situation?
not sure if anyone cares but I just hacked my friends Instagram password using instablaster. Just google for it if you care
Great video! Your little girl is going to have so many great memories. Happy trails!
Thanks so much for watching!

Hey Mike! Really appreciate the kind words. We can't wait to share the rest of the story with you all!
These keep getting better and better!! Be safe on your travels!
Thanks so much! Will do!
I love what you are doing. I am a 9-5 guy but truly wish to do something like this when my kids grows up.
Awesome! Start taking the first steps today!

Awesome! You get it! Death Valley is just incredible!
Thanks for adding another Death Valley secret to my must do list...… Marbles none the less. Great work!!!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow excellent job really enjoyed the flow of that video.
Jason
As always another great video!! Safe travels and can’t wait for the next one!!
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Miss seeing you guys, stay safe and have fun til our path cross again.
Hey buddy! Miss you too! Thanks for the support!
Never looked at the 4 runner's as a oasis for help you are a good man happy father day looking forward to meeting you in my travels and just throw up a thumb up in passing
Happy Father's day! See you on the trail!

Love your videos. Safe travels and enjoy the open road.
Thanks for the support!!
Brilliant video. Very surprised about Marble bath - weird and wonderful
“We’re just going to run into town today” that’s awesome! Especially when a run to town is a full day from the warm springs! I’m planning on doing the Steele pass road this fal after it cools down, always wanted to, but never have. Thanks for the great videos!
Steel Pass is really a great ride! We probably enjoy driving it from the West side the most. Thanks for the support!
True nomads; truly free, good journey.
Thanks for watching!

Good to know! Thanks for watching!
MARBLES!!! How fun is that? Awesome!
Just love these random desert oddities!
Looks like a fun place! Can’t wait to check it out!
Let me know when and I'll be there!
I even feel calmer listining to you chat about your life now. Cheers fella
Thanks for watching!
Love to see you guys on the road and join you. Congrats for a nice video. Drive safe always..
Wonderful video! It's been a while since I've watched one of your videos. The quality is top notch!
Awesome! Glad to hear we are improving! Thanks for the feedback!
You can also disconnect the battery for a few minutes to clear codes
That works on some vehicles in certain instances, not a bad method to try when needed!
Once again dude so inspirational! Keep me coming!
Thanks, man! Will do!
Props... and thanks.
Thanks for joining the channel! We really appreciate the kind words too!
Y'all should totally do a cooking segment. I would be cool to see the kitchen more and what cool thing y'all come up with to eat.
Oh you're in for a treat real soon!! Already working on that!
Guess I can predict the future now. Maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket.
Do it!
What was in your pasta dish? It looked great!
Yes! It looked amazing! Please share the recipe :)
Another great video as usual. I spotted few things. Добрый день! Вы, без сомнения отважные ребята! Удачи вам!!!👏👏👏👏
Really dig the song at the end "Beautiful life"!
nice vod and good work on the troubleshooting. I wouldn't take an H3 overlanding tho not reliable.
Every rig has it's pros and cons. Some days you win, some days you limp home.
If you don’t have a scanner remove both battery cables and touch them together. Turn on the lights door open etc. drain all voltage in the system/systems that will clear any hard faults, or codes for that matter as long as there are no failures.
I've had torque pro for years, plus OBDlink blue tooth adapter, but have since gone to Blue Driver. Both are great setups....
Great video and happy Father’s Day. Keep up the great work. I am sitting here watching with my son and it is inspiring us to load the 4Runner and just go. Thank you for inspiring so many people to relax more and spend time and cherrish those moments with family.
Happy Father's day! Glad you and your son are enjoying it! See you out there!
Loving the new vids...seeing a bit of SwellRunner editing rubbing off on you and really enjoying it. Keep up the good work.
There are definitely some tribute to the SwellRunner sequences in this mini series. Thanks for watching!
Thank You!
Marble bath was NOT what I expected... Funny....
Right?! It was crazy!
Really well done, looks like so much fun.
Thanks for watching!
I can understand the feeling, I was there. We are going back on the road in a couple of years.
Awesome! How long were you on the road?
For 17 years, all across North America!
It's 15 minutes out of the way, but gas is about 50 cents cheaper at Stovepipe Wells than it is at Furnace Creek. They only have regular though.
Those awnings are awesome
They really are!
That explains a few things regarding why you were by yourself coming down the Lippincott pass with the H3 in front when I spoke with you.
Yep! That's exactly right!
Awesomeness at its finest!!
Man you're living my dream. Enjoy keep safe!
Thanks for the support!
Torque Pro is a great app, best purchase ive ever made.
Absolutely!
Good choice of music, nice story line. I often wish travel vlogs included hyperlink geo coords to places so we can jump to the google map
Thanks so much for watching!
10:11 I was sure my English Springer was the only dog that sounds like a horse when drinking 😂 guess not! Great video guys!!
Haha! Yeah he's a bit loud! Thanks for watching!
Awesome video, well done!! Hope you left some food and water for the Mule's ...
Thanks for watching! The burros actually prefer cardboard products! They took a whole box of wine last year, ripped the wine bag out, and tried to eat the box. 😲
Fantastic video.. .as always.
Thanks so much!

You got yourself another sub right here! Loved the video
Awesome, thanks for subscribing!
I love what you did with the headliner!!
It's coming along! Lots of great stories behind most of them.
I envy you all keep up the great videos and safe travels
Thanks so much!
good

Having a ham radio and license would have been very helpful to find out what code it was! Also I really enjoy your videos! Thanks for making them.
Good point! We are both are license holders, just didn't cross our minds at the time since we have the satellite texting capabilities. Will keep that in mind! Thanks for watching!
Surely the app can cache all the codes on the tablet? Or maybe carry a google doc on your tablet with all the codes listed....?
Awesome video! Building my truck slowly so I can do this as well! Looking forward to all of your future videos. What songs did you use in this video
Thanks so much! Best if luck on your build and we hope to see you out there! The music is all from EpidemicSound.com I just haven't had the time to detail every song.

lovely adventure .. how much was the wheel air pressure in sand dunes ?
Tecopa hotsprings is 70 miles south.
We love some hotsprings!
Amazing monologue.
Great episode as always! What is the spare gas can system your using? And can you or have you done an episode on your cooking cold storage systems?
Thanks so much! That is a propane tank holder from Turtleback Trailers with a 20lb tank for our fire pit and buddy heater. Speaking of food prep, it's an upcoming video, and one of Sarah's first! Stay tuned!

OK it's killing me, can we get a recipe/video on that noodle dinner, it looked awesome. Oh new sub here BTW, you guys are killing it!
Beautiful out there. New subscriber. Liked this video. Be safe!
In essence, you are feeling what it is to be retired. Spent the last 45 years getting to that point. Whew, I survived.....
I like death valley. Nice video
It's time to really get off the grid and head to Central and south America!
Just discovered your videos and watching them from ep1. Love how your dog goes with you on your adventure. Where does the dog sit when you’re travelling from one spot to the next?
What’s the song at the end of the video?
Awesome video!
Thanks, we really appreciate it!
Awesome !!!!
Thanks!!
the marbles you picked up near the road, and walking up to the bath... were bread crumbs.. you've removed them? !?
We returned them to the bath where they were originally. Some people we taking them, throwing them, etc. We are preserving the landmark.
Different PowerStrokes for different folks 😉. Rock on and safe travels.
Very well done!
Thanks!
Do you keep the OBD reader plugged in 24/7? I ask because I worry about people seeing the signal, connecting and playing with my car.
That's always a possibility but we've never had an issue.
of course the Toyota has ZERO issues!
About the Torque Pro: What OBD did you select to interface with?
Its the BAFX model. Theres a direct link in the video description. Thanks for watching!
Awsome video, hope to do the same some day. What was that closing song and who is it by?
Bill Oldham Thanks so much! The music comes from Epidemic Sound. I just don't have time to list every song these days... :(
Love these videos! Prolly gonna but that awning now.

Lifestyle Overland Is there a link to a vid or more info on the awning...it may be what I have been looking for!
Wait, where is the Shell station on Steel Pass Rd? 😂🤣😂
Like ur video... awesome.. subscribed... ur daughter is super cute😀

What's the gasoline cans/jugs brand? Size? Where to buy?
They are Rotopax 4 Gallon fuel cells and you can find them here: amzn.to/2ldXqYd
I want to get into overloading , need to research how to get into it.
Great video
Thanks!
Inspiring!
Thanks!
Earth is home
Good job on your videos. Yup I bet it’s scary doing your thing... I have a tech question. The hitch your using on the trailer do you know the brand name and were one can be purchased? I have a 1640 ESP and it sets high. I need a hitch configuration like yours. Hang in there. I have been camping and exploring for a while. At 62 I am getting more and more time to do what your doing. I applaud you for your bravery!
Forgot to tell you.. Happy Fathers Day!
Thanks so much! Same to you!
