Like the fact that you show its not always sunshine and roses. That just makes it better for later on (remember that time..." also you could tell you were nervous about the border crossing. Like you said worked up for nothing. Glad to see the store back open as I want to purchase some items to support lifestyle overland. Do you think you'll offer the t shirt you had on with your rig on the front? I would love to purchase one. Blessings!
Thanks for watching! As to the shirts, that design is sold out. We may do a similar design in the future but it will be a while. We appreciate your support!
Having lived in Upstate NY most of my life, Crossing the border is like going to the mall for us. Today everything is so computerized they can determine if you go or not in seconds. I'm surprised he didn't ask you to pull over and show off your gear and truck...LOL. You probably would have had a heart attack !
The conductor of the locomotive has the best damn job in the world. Absolutely the best scenery one could find (that mountain range is something else) driving a piece of heavy machinery with NO traffic being able to take your eyes of the "road" to take it all in. Man, I'm jealous.
I truly love hearing successful border crossing stories like this. Most of the time when our friends from the south get turned away, it's simply because people treat us like just another state... We are not, but when you take due diligence like you guys did 9 times out of ten there are no problems at all. Hope you enjoy our beautiful country and sure hope you don't stay for winter, because that rig is sweet but you'll be shivering something fierce! You guys have a new subscriber :)
NO WAY! One episode, TWO places that I have also camped - just a hop skip and a jump across the boarder! Worst night of my life was in that field - there was a massive thunderstorm (this is 1993!) and the entire field turned to mud. Then the wind picked up above 60mph and the muddy field ... well, we brought much of that Canadian field with us on the rest of the trip! This video brought back great recent (and old!) memories and reminds me that I'm very lucky my family has a great tradition of getting outdoors together!
This is a dream come true. The best life experience and adventure for Caroline, she is very proud of you. Please don't stop. Keep going and going. Greetings from Mexico. Big hug for you guys!
Oh Canada border crossing! On my way last summer to Tuk, I also called RCMP two times to make sure I did it all by the book before driving to CA, I had a shotgun too. At the border I handed over my forms in triplicate, they made me park, hand over my keys, then they tore my car apart for 30 min, popped panels, broke my glove box, completely unpacked my 2015 Outback, searched my body, then handed back the keys to my car with all the stuff setting outside. The rest of CA was great. Yukon and NWT AMAZING. I would love to go back in my 4Runner.
Big thanks for the sulpur train drone sequence near the end of the video. That is some great videography, and the colour of the sulphur really pops. Beauty work by you :)
Were you camping on the east side of the reservoir in the Bob Marshall Wilderness on that wet morning? We were backpacking in there July 2018 - beautiful country and a fantastic road. My 10 year old's treat for her awesome work (28lb frame pack, 8 miles a day!) was a huckleberry ice cream at the SAME spot you brought your kiddo. Love your videos, especially your excellent scripts and narration. I feel that your gift as a writer sets you apart from the rest of the UA-camrs - more than your great video, lovely family, or positive outlook. We saw a PILE of bears up in the 'Bob' - hope you kept your bear spray handy!
You guys are so awesome! Wishing you the best in the new year! I’d like to make a suggestion for the new year. No offense intended by my idea, but want you to seriously think about it. You are SOOOO FREAKING GREAT with the music that you produce your films with, whole-hearted, vibrant, and all-American! The intro music, however if far from this vibe you create. It has a weird Aussie vibe and feels a bit like a Survivor offshoot. With your music taste and having created your brand, Jan. 1 might be the perfect time to update your intro to more represent your family, your life, and your brand. Just an idea, if you don’t feel what I’m feeling, chive on, you guys are amazing regardless! Nothing but LOVE... best to you guys, inspired daily.
Thanks for the input and for following along. The intro music is all original, written by my brother who is a composer to our exact request... so it's not changing ;) In fact, we just amped it up with some additional sounds that help blend with our music and convey that "epic" feel as we move into "epic" country.
I can respect that, and I get it now! I love the new blend on the intro!!! NICE! Best wishes and health to you and your beautiful, super cool, family in the NEW YEAR!!!@@LifestyleOverland
Has Sarah ever thought of making a UA-cam channel? She would do incredible with an outdoor cooking show, teaching us some good recipes for when we're out in the wild. Much love as always guys!!!
Awesome video guys! I’m glad you enjoyed our Country, it’s absolutely breathtaking. So much unoccupied and free open space. I’ve heard that there are over 10 000 lakes in BC alone. There are hundreds of substantial mountains that have never been climbed, named and mapped accurately. We have rainforests, beautiful beaches, great surfing spots, amazing sailing and boating, actual deserts where it gets to 40 degrees Celsius in the summer, places that get 10 meters of rainfall a year and places that get less than 10 cm a year. And this is all in British Columbia alone! Enjoy your trip and thanks for the quality production! Cheers 🍻 🇨🇦
Wow🤗🤗🤗. Very nice scenery and the music background you’ve chosen. On my bucket list to drive there too next year. Good luck n have a safe and blessed journey.😀😀😀
😉 Just a bit of humor about our American perspective on Canada 🤣 We absolutely loved our trip through your neck of the woods and will be returning as soon possible!
Awesome video! We'll be heading to Canada next summer and have been stressing about what is/isn't allowed, so it's good to see the border crossing was easy on you.
We will definitely be doing a how-to on the Canadian border crossing for you guys! Usually it's very easy, but it can get intense under the right/wrong circumstances.
I'm addicted to your channel...I just bought a 2018 ORP and have never done ANY overlanding, but I want to soo bad... If you're ever in Central Alabama, hit me up for a good meal.. Keep it up! God bless you and be CAREFUL
You folks have, by far and away, the best Overland YT channel, they only get better and better. The music is awesome! Welcome to the Great White North, was wondering what that experience would be like. I've lived in Canada nearly as long as America and there are some similarities and big differences too that you'll probably get a good taste for (not least of which is the currency exhange rate lol . . . that'll keep you coming back if nothing else). Godspeed through the Great White Nord! (Nord is French for North).
I have been waiting for these videos to come out.. I am wondering how close you guys were from driving right by me . Bring on the adventures in Canada 🇨🇦.
Welcome to Canada I hope the rest of your trip is like the beginning of your trip yeah up here we call it Crown Land. I've been from one end of BC to the Yukon it's beautiful country just like in the States was beautiful places everywhere and you're really enjoy it have fun. 👍👍🇨🇦
Thank you for happily taking us along on all your overland travels! Was wondering, does your truck have a v6 or v8 engine? sufficient power? thank you and happy trails always!
Maple trees - Go East, young man! Oaks and Maples are an eastern thing. Acorns and helicopters everywhere. My wife calls them maple keys. I guess that’s an Ontario thing. I called them helicopters in NY state.
@@LifestyleOverland Is there anyway we can see your route? We are planning a trip to North America (we are in Australia), shipping the car and trailer over. We have 12 months to do USA/Canada (realistically thinking about predominately the west coast). With your winters, we are thinking that this will chop out a significant portion of the northern parts to only the spring and summer. Lots of planning needed!! Cheers.
Every time I drive by the spot you camped above Hungry Horse Reservoir, I think "nice campsite". Looks like you missed Glacier NP and the North Fork Flathead; maybe next time.
Welcome to Canada. "Thought there would be more maple trees" LOL. Wrong time of year to be here as everyone who can has left for Arizona. Hope you like the cold as you head North. If your route takes you up through Williams Lake, Quesnel and Prince George, instead of taking Highway 97 consider traveling the other side of the Fraser river for that stretch. At Wiliams lake take Soda Creek Road which will get you to the west side of the Fraser river and onto West Fraser road and head north. About half hour south of Quesnel you will cross Deserters creek (AKA Deep creek. Its on Google maps). If you park on the North side of creek there is a trail head on the west side of the road that is a nice hike to the falls. Its about 1.5 hrs return. The falls have eroded there way into the rock face and is almost like several 15-30' falls inside a cave. Next in Quesnel you could check out the pinnacles park. From there you could continue up the Black water Road to Prince George. If your coming through Calgary, Alberta Shoot us a message and stop in.
Too bad you never made it to Vancouver Island. We have some beautiful wild camping spots and the climate is a lot better than the mainland most of the time, as we don't have as much snow in winter. And our summers are warm, never too hot, but there's always a fresh ocean breeze to cool you down when it does get in the 80's.
Looks like you came in through Elko, Koocanusa Lake area. Seeing there is no snow, this was from a few weeks ago but if your still in the area it would be fun to do a meet up.
This is from a few months ago. It was nearly impossible for us to travel, film, family, edit, and upload while on the move with the backlog we started with. We hope to return soon though!
Hey ! It’s the same for us canadians when we cross the border to the USA. We’re not allowed of getting fruits and vegetables on the other side. Most of the fruits are produced in the USA. They’re good to get in Canada but not for getting back !!! Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! 🤪
Really enjoy all your video's brings back old memories of all our over landing adventures back in the day. We now travel in our motorhome and are kinda spoiled but the best times we had were over landing in our jeeps. One question I have is what kind of shotgun did you bring with you? We are going to Canada next spring and not sure if I should bring my self defense 12 GA or my old trusty Remington 870. Keep up the great work we really enjoy watching. Ken
it's awesome you got that Yaesu FTM-400DR radio (one of my favorites) ... you better have that ham radio license to operate that machine ;) or you can get in some decent trouble. If I'm not wrong the FCC fine starts around $5k for transmitting on ham freq without a license ... uhhh !!!. Lots of people in the overland community put these radios in their vehicles without paying attention to the regulation for using ham radios or maybe they don't know they are ham radios ... don't know ...but it has become an increasing phenomenon in the overland community.
@@LifestyleOverland awesome , good to know, maybe I will run into you on a Yaesu digital group chat. Maybe one day we can do a demo video showing the advantages of having a ham radio and getting more interest in the overland community. keep up the good work , love you guys and your videos. I am planning to do something similar in Africa , but more for humanitarian purposes, so I'm learning a lot from you and you inspire me.
Great video. Enjoying the series. Just FYI the pronunciation for Kootenai is koo ten knee. :) would love to host you if you ever get back to North Idaho area.
Your videos continue to inspire me! I am currently planning a trip from South Carolina to Denali and back in my Toyota FJ Cruiser. Are you just using Google for navigation? I'm trying to decide on a navigation system using a tablet. Your suggestion? Thanks!
Great video!! You stayed in my home state!! Would like to see the GPS track to see if you drove by my folks farm. Huckleberry batch has some great huckleberry food.
hey, stumbled upon your videos, been watching for about 3 or 4 hours, great stuff.. I'm getting a serious case of cabin fever lol, we're gonna end up with about 7 months of winter where I live. Idaho is fantastic. I remember the days of going to Winnipeg with friends before I was 21( I lived about 200 miles southwest). They asked why you were coming to Canada, how long are you staying. And you said to visit a friend, they said OK, how much alcohol and tobacco do you have? Have a good stay. When you came back the US side would say: How long were you in Canada? Alcohol or tobacco? Where do you live? Where do you work and what do you do? Have a good day.
Question for you. Did you say you were able to bring a shotgun across the border into Canada? I live in BC and I was told Canadians were not allowed to bring firearms, shotguns, into the USA. Do you know if that is correct?
Welcome to 🇨🇦. You know... we’re really not much different than our southern neighbors.. we say sorry a lot... I’m sorry for that.. we actually like fruit. A lot. And our British Columbia farmers grow some of the best fruit around. Yes, we like maple sirup, no its not everywhere, sorry. Believe it not, its just as stressful for us Canadians to go through the US boarder crossing. But as long as you have nothing to hide or a dark past, there shouldn’t be much worries. Right? Anyways, welcome to the great north, I hope you and your lovely family enjoy our country side as much as we do. Crown land is everywhere, I imagine its much like it is in the US, just have to look for it or ask questions. There is a government website (which at this moment I don’t know what its called, sorry) .. but the website is a detailed map of all government Crown-Land and which areas are protected conservation areas and which are “camp-able” zones. If you haven’t found it already, I, or someone else will be more than happy to track that down for you. Safe travels.
Question. Did you cross into Alberta or British Columbia? Either way... when looking up Crown-Land maps. You might need to google Crownland maps for the province you are searching for. I could be wrong. Also, any local Libraries should have information as well.
We crossed into BC at Roosville. We found the crown land website but it was extremely difficult to decipher. If there's an easier method we are all ears. Thanks!
Lifestyle Overland I have heard that before. I had only used it once or twice, years ago. I guess I was just lucky to grown up knowing where the Crown-Land around us was.. lol
First I would like to say that I love your videos and that as of now i just finished watching all of your videos. Thank you for these, it has made me start going outdoors more and are awesome videos. Now I have two questions. First, you said in the video that there are some good apps on IOS for people like me that don't have a android device, what are those apps? Second, I have a google Chromebook Samsung laptop, will the torque pro app work on this laptop for google play?
Hey thanks for following along! As to the iOS apps, look at some of the recommendations in the comments of the how to video, I'm only slightly familiar with them and those folks can probably help you more than I can. The Chromebook should run the Torque app from what my quick research tells me.
On my fifth border crossing into BC I had my two sons (both teenage minors) and my brother with me for a 10 day vacation. I totally forgot that I had to have a notarized letter from my wife stating that she gave her permission for me to take the kids out of the country. I was expecting to get turned around and have to await a FedEx from my wife losing a day or so, but the border agent called us up and asked the kids some questions and felt comfortable enough with their responses so he let us go through unhindered. I should have been better prepared, but got lucky. On one of my other crossings the agent wanted to make sure I didn't have any handguns so he got me worried to the point that I might have overlooked accidentally packing one that I would end up in jail. I remained confident and truthful and he didn't search my vehicle. Haha, on my first crossing they searched my car and it took an hour. They make you give them your phone with the passcode and passport so that was a little unsettling. At the end of the day they have a job they are trained to do and if you respect that I have found such instances to be minor inconveniences. I look forward to future travels exploring Canada and everyone should take a trip at some point.
Pete, I am an American serviceman who was stationed in the UK for many years. One summer I had my mother bring her grandsons to the UK for summer holidays as they did every year. I booked them tickets on Air Canada because it was cheaper with a stop in Ottowa. Same issue; Candian immigration asked my mother is she had a letter from me or their mother authorizing the travel. Uh..nooo.... :-0 So, they pulled my young boys aside (6 and 8 years old) and asked them where they were going and who the lady was. Of course, they gave all the right answers and the Canadians were ready to let them go. Then they asked my youngest son, the cheeky one, what he thought of Air Canada. "Oh, it's okay...but I like Virgin Air better!" I think that's when they got frog-marched back on to the plane towards the UK ;-)
I remember being about 10 or so when my dad took me down south and we had the same issue going the other way, almost got my dad in a bunch of trouble because the border guard lady asked what my dad thought of my mom (divorced) and I said he thinks she is a bitch... in the end they laughed about it made some calls to my mom and relatives and we were on our way.
I was thinking about your electronics set up in the vehicle, I have something similar in my Jeep. It occurred to me while watching your video that there could be an issue if our airbags deploy. Any concerns about that?
@@LifestyleOverland I'm going to have to make some changes with mine, I had never really thought about it being a problem until now. Another great video, keep it up and have fun.

Every time I drive by the spot you camped above Hungry Horse Reservoir, I think "nice campsite". Looks like you missed Glacier NP and the North Fork Flathead; maybe next time.
Yeah, we had to start making time at this point so a lot of stuff had to be bypassed for a later date.
Getting back in the USA is harder than getting in to Canada great video thanks have a good day be safe.
We had great luck both directions. Thanks!
Thanks for all the input, we will definitely have to return soon to see more of it!
Awesome video as usual.
If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of brand/fuel tank do you have strapped on top of the 4Runner?
Thanks
Thanks! Ya know, I can't recall the name right now... it was a green logo and I want to say started with a "W".
Lifestyle Overland thank you for the reply.
You are a gentleman.
Welcome to Canada.
Thanks! We really loved it!
Great video, thank you!
Hi! So much in love with your passion guys! Ride safe always! 🇵🇭
Great video and great music!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@LifestyleOverland it is a great area to explore. You weren't very far from the Grizzly corridor which is beautiful
Ken
Glad you enjoyed the video. We took a Benelli Nova 18.5" barrel tactical version. Bone stock.
it's awesome you got that Yaesu FTM-400DR radio (one of my favorites) ... you better have that ham radio license to operate that machine ;) or you can get in some decent trouble.
Thanks for watching. KG5NUH, clear.
Man, love watching your footage. Link to or any info on your camera set up and gear? Looks great.

Great video. Enjoying the series. Just FYI the pronunciation for Kootenai is koo ten knee. :) would love to host you if you ever get back to North Idaho area.
Oh wow, yeah wouldn't have guessed that one!
Your videos continue to inspire me! I am currently planning a trip from South Carolina to Denali and back in my Toyota FJ Cruiser. Are you just using Google for navigation? I'm trying to decide on a navigation system using a tablet. Your suggestion? Thanks!
Glad we could inspire you! Here's what we use primarily for nav: ua-cam.com/video/RVflThDx7ZA/v-deo.html
Welcome to Canada!
Thanks!
When did you arrive in Canada? How long did the drive up to Prudhoe Bay take (from the border)?
Great video!! You stayed in my home state!! Would like to see the GPS track to see if you drove by my folks farm. Huckleberry batch has some great huckleberry food.
Tracks will go live on Patreon.com tomorrow morning! 😁 Thanks for watching, man!
hey, stumbled upon your videos, been watching for about 3 or 4 hours, great stuff..
Good job guys
Thanks!
Question for you. Did you say you were able to bring a shotgun across the border into Canada? I live in BC and I was told Canadians were not allowed to bring firearms, shotguns, into the USA. Do you know if that is correct?
the trailer is the hammer
Thanks for the welcome! We absolutely loved Canada on our trip North! We will definitely return for a much longer stay as soon as possible.
Question. Did you cross into Alberta or British Columbia?
Either way... when looking up Crown-Land maps. You might need to google Crownland maps for the province you are searching for. I could be wrong.
Also, any local Libraries should have information as well.
Lifestyle Overland ah?! Yes, right. I didn’t think about the video being behind the actual travel time frame.. lol
Well, come back anytime. 👍🏻
We crossed into BC at Roosville. We found the crown land website but it was extremely difficult to decipher. If there's an easier method we are all ears. Thanks!
Lifestyle Overland I have heard that before.
I had only used it once or twice, years ago.
I guess I was just lucky to grown up knowing where the Crown-Land around us was.. lol
Awesome you guys. Im getting there sooner or later lol.
Thanks so much!
Thank you
Nice video, keep them coming ✌
Which mounts are you using for ipads?
They are by ram mount. Here's the console mounted info, haven't done the others yet: ua-cam.com/video/WZjNYsk4by8/v-deo.html
what kind of restrictions for carrying guns at border crossing? Did you disclose about the gun voluntarily at border crossing?
Here's where we started: www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/visit-visite-eng.htm
I loved Canada! Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nothing but good things to say about all of our crossings. Key is to stay calm, friendly, an 100% honest.
Best to camp with a portable electric bear fence. 2.4 lbs to pack for huge peace of mind.
Where do I find the batwing awning?
www.darcheusa.com/
I was thinking about your electronics set up in the vehicle, I have something similar in my Jeep. It occurred to me while watching your video that there could be an issue if our airbags deploy. Any concerns about that?
Yes, that's why it's usually in the lower position, just popped it up when I'm moving cameras around.
@@LifestyleOverland I'm going to have to make some changes with mine, I had never really thought about it being a problem until now. Another great video, keep it up and have fun.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Welcome to Canada, are you going to cross Canada from West to East?
Already drove to Tuktoyuktuk and back. Our publishing lags a few months. Can't wait to return!
Kevin do you mind sharing what was needed and asked for as far as the shotgun is concerned? That's something I may need to do soon and wouldn't mind some insight
This is where I started. I even called them and recorded the phone conversation for good measure. It was really easy. www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/visit-visite-eng.htm
Excellent, thank you much!
Nice Trip bro
Do you have footage of the border crossing?😁
No, we didn't film any of it.
u need to watch taylor dzaman hes basically like you guys but on the west coast of canada ... you'll get some good spots from him and welcome to the land of the maple leaf eh i hope u enjoy your time here
We will have to check him out. Thanks for watching!
