      You're talking about Thomas Young's 1801 rendition of the double-slit experiment, which analyzes interference patterns in a wave that interacts with two slits. This experiment was about a 100 years later performed with photon detectors on the slits, which, only when observed, showed photons being detected only by a single slit, behaviour typical of particles, contrary to the wave behaviour it exhibits when only analyzing the interference pattern (some regions appear brighter than other due to light behaving as a wave), which indicated that light's interaction depended on whether it was observed or not, empirically proving the particle-wave duality phenomena. The concept of observation creating a disturbance in a system is a fundamental idea of quantum mechanics.

  • @KyzenEX
    @KyzenEX 3 місяці тому +62

    It's not about "seeing", it's about measuring. Any kind of measurement during the "process of travel" so to say changes the behaviour of the light wave/particle.
    By measuring the light while it travels, you force it to set on a specific position with a specific momentum, making the light behave like a normal particle and not a quantum one (a wave) is due to the Uncertainty Principle, which dictates that you can only know so much of a quantum object at once, but never all of its properties; specifically, you can either know their position or their momentum, but never boh at the same time.
    A hypothetical quantum object made entirely from quantized particles wouldn't outright disappear but "turn" into a cloud of probabilities, changing position each time it is measured in any way, possibly changing shape too, since to have a specific shape, each particle would need to "measure" eachother and this would dequantize them.

    In the context of quantum mechanics, "observed" means interact/measure(slash used because at a low level those are the same), so there isn't some definition of eyesight built into physics or anything, it means interacted with. So technically if a particle could stay in one spot constantly(somehow), but turn visible when not interacted with(somehow), and then also turn back to normal(somehow), while remaining in a state that can be changed by "observing"(somehow), then even then it would still constantly be invisible due to light hitting it.

    • @KyzenEX
      @KyzenEX 3 місяці тому +3

      Yup yup, same when people bring up QCD and think that quarks and gluons actually have colors, or that the spin property of particles refers ot actual spinning motion.

  • @BlakeLindsay-v6p
    @BlakeLindsay-v6p 3 місяці тому +16

    Apologies, as I may be incorrect. But my understanding of the experiment you've tried to build is different, what I think you've misunderstood is that when a particle is measured, it does not disappear, however, the particle actually exists in multiple states, called "Superpositions." the superpositions may correspond to full transparency, or no transparency in your case, if you were not "observing" or "measuring" the particle, it would exist in a state of both full transparency, and no transparency. these superpositions could be represented as a sort of probability wave function, and when one observes or measures the particle, the wavelength collapses, and it becomes either transparent, or not, based on the probabilities given by the wave function.

    Love the content, but i gotta say all the AI courses make ur actual good course lose credibility. The ai stuff is hella cringe and makes it all seem like a scam even if ur roblox scripting one isnt.
    However, no hate, love this scripting content keep at it bro.
