I have seen some insane layouts usuing the newest stuff amd exacting detail. Perfectly scaled layouts that boggle the mind, but here is the honest truth. Layouts like this? My favoorites. Simple and doesn't take it too seriously. It is the perfect reminder that layouts can be fun and exciting for anyone. Pure nostalgia.
Then an adult should seek the help of a kid when setting up and operating Lionel trains. Nothing like vintage Lionel to bring back fond memories. Too bad kids today are buried in electronics and don’t use imagination.
This is exactly what I’m trying to re-create. This is why Lionel postwar trains are still so treasure and collected after all of these years. Absolutely amazing! 😊
Great accessories! Haven't seen a bascule bridge in awile. They used to be really tough to find, 40-odd yrs back when I had my layout. Enjoyed this thanks!
I haven’t had much experience converting 3 rail to 2 rail. However, MTH had a switch on certain models that would toggle from 3 rail to 2 rails. Then you would have to just remove the center rail pick up rollers. Thank you for your question.
Hate to ask, but I'm dying to know if this 1948 circa layout was meant for a 4'x8' or a 5'x9' sized space? P.S. Nothing better than the "clickity-clack" sound of an old Lionel. 👍

The great thing about the vintage Lionel trains is that it was kid friendly and a child could set them up and operate them.
Ya! Then they can get lead poisoning from the paint!😂
@theLionelguy Lead paint and asbestos were everywhere up until the 80s.

Beautiful layout showing the block sections working and the trains pausing. Thanks

Awesome Layout!
Nice layout.
I like your method of power hook up to the layout.
A good selection of trains and accessories!
Enjoy.😊
Great Layout! I like how portable it is and the easy set-up and take down. Nice.
Super cool, great to see the old technology.
😁
🚂
🤩
Nice train ,nice layout and your running what i call today" the missing man",The caboose Damnskippy!
A great feeling watching those trains
Nothing beats 1948 technology -- thanks for sharing this great video!
And it still works great!
Nice littlel layout! I'm running only 4 by 8 myself but I live in a mobile home so feel blessed having what I have love those Lionels!
Oh the three classic Alcos PA's or FA's! Very nice.
I really like those union Pacific passenger cars ,look s great !
3:38 THE MILK CAR LOOKS PERFECT
Very nice post war layout! Reminds me of the ones in tje department and hardware stores of the 50's!

Love those old alcos

I never saw one before! And I am old.
Nice Postwar layout.
Fabulous! Love it.
That old wood for the framing makes this layout even better to me.
I love lionel my great uncle used to let me run my trains on his layout
nice layouts .
awesome!!!!
I love the layout. It's an example of less technology can be a good thing. The sounds was what it was meant to be.
Nice Alco sets. The layout runs great!
Classic!
I love those vintage Lionel O Gauge trains
Who doesn’t love the 2023, 2031, 2032, and 2033? Those gotta be the best value Lionel ever created. The 027 scale size fits where scale “O” don’t.
I have my fathers 1467w set (Erie 2032) set he purchased new along with his 1515w Set and I set them up every year at Xmas.
My dad would have been 13 in 1948, I suspect he had already started collecting.
Thank You, vintage is the best!
I`m just stating on a 6'X12' table, my first Marx Lionel layout of mostly prewar equipment.
6x12 is a good size. You should be able to get a lot on that platform.
Did you go back in time and get this layout? Because it looks like it was plucked straight out of a hobby shop in 1948. Great layout
I’m always wanted a war train layout sadly I don’t have one, but a postwar train is coming tomorrow for me😊
What's the size of the layout?
5’ x 9’
I'm thinking of building a Lionel layout, but I want realistic two rails tracks and more ties between the gaps. How easy is it to convert the engines?

It’s actually an old ping pong table and measures 5x10. Thank you for your question.
