When I was a kid in the 80s, my family had a river cruiser on the Thames, often our first overnight mooring having departed from Windsor would be Guards island which is just a short way upstream of Bray lock, the downstream end of the island is directly under the Maidenhead Railway bridge, this bridge is just west of Taplow. I used to love seeing & hearing the HSTs thunder over that bridge.
SOLID dosage of wheelset/bogie hunting happening @0:43, this is perfect for helping you visualise the motions.
Taplow was one of the best stations for viewing HSTs,i miss it so much!
They would have been at full speed there unless there were restrictions of some kind.
Brilliant and thank you. Taplow was an excellent place to see stuff at speed back in NSE days
My god, this is some footage!! Amazing!!! 😍😍
I sooooo miss those days!
Great clips. Severe oscillation on the lead bogie of the second HST lead power car. I imagine the ride was very rough.
Will have to have a look at the other footage from the day to see if it was just this train, good spot
I’ve just watched a video of an hst over in Mexico so they live on
That must have been an impressive tripod to stay so steady in the slipstream of those trains passing a couple of feet away
Yes it was very very heavy
Nice one.
a speed wobble or osculation with the London Bound one. you hear it so look at the power car leading bogie you can see it hunting or shaking looks worse than it is. 0:44
Your eyesights better than mine, hadnt noticed that before
@@thehogfat I heard it before seeing it, so a couple more watch throughs I focused on the lead bogie and hey presto its shaking. 50020 Revenge had a case of both sets of bogies were shaking through Dinton on the Mule at over 100mph I was both excited and a little scared of the rattling & rolling back in 1986 on jointed track.
I thought that, but wondered if it was due to the video, for want of a better word, pixellating due to what was available at the time and then the upload? Either way, joyous to watch the compilation.
0:40 that actually looks very serious ! That would have been causing much wear to the wheel sets & the rails. My guess is a warped wheel due to overheating from the brakes.
Around this time the network & rolling stock was being run in to the ground pre privation. The exec livery was the last BR livery the sets would adorn.
I wish the HST Valenta Paxman's still existed
How can you get to go on one of these?!
Theres a few running in Cornwall and Scotland, but not at this speed tho
Thank you .. I’d just love to go one that’s been preserved in its old style .. are there any trips like that?
@hedyfletcher There's the Midland Pullman charter but that uses ex-GWR 1st class coaches and catering vehicles and ex-East Midlands powercars with Paxman VP185 engines and completely different headlights to allow it to run with no yellow on the front
Hi mate, nice video, would it be OK if I can use a portion of this video for a farewell HST video and I will credit you?
Yes that’s fine
Looking forward to seeing it
@thehogfat cheers mate appreciate it
