- I've got an exciting new product to test, and it's the COROS Pace 3! Having used Garmin for a number of years, in this video I test the new watch and see how it compares to its Garmin counterpart. Enjoy!
(This is not a paid advertisement - I bought this watch with my own money.)

Really great review. It's amazing you only have 149 subscribers so far. You seem very professional and very detailed. I'm sure it'll be 10,000 in no time
Great review, John! Bought the Coros Pace 3 and I'm just waiting for it to arrive 💪
I'm a firefighter (still in training right now) but we've been doing lots of running so i decided to order the Garmin Forerunner 965, Can't wait. Theres some guys that run quite often in my recruit class and they really introduced me to Garmin.
How do you like it!?
@@lhzsdgsfbvv love it, best smart watch and fitnesd watch ever
@@lhzsdgsfbvv love it, my favorite overall smart watch
Awesome video bro. I recently ordered the pace 3 and waiting for it to be delivered. Looking forward to it.... Hope you bought a HRM for your heart rate inaccuracies!!
The Pace 3 definitely seems to be a great watch. But unfortunately the comparison is a bit unfair since the 245 is almost 5 years old now. The 255 now costs around the same as the Pace 3. Feature-wise they are pretty similar. So switching systems isn't all that necessary anymore.
In fact, there's the Fr165 from Garmin compiting directly with prize at the no-music version.
John, excellent review and analysis of Garmin vs Coros.
Yay, hello speedcuber! ✌🏼
COROS is really a runners watch. More compact and efficient in features and price. But Garmin for more other extra features, extra prices and more smartwatch features. Depending on your use case. But specifically for running, the price/performance ratio, nothing beats a COROS.
this comment sums up the whole video in a few sentences. 👍
Fantastic review, thank you!
I stumbled upon your video while i was looking to compare Polar Vantage V3 and Sunnto Race. I enjoyed your video.
Really nice review. I've had this watch for about 3 weeks. Im constantly seeing the same issue you mentioned with the heart rate sensor jumping to a high rate. Im very disappointed because I specifically purchased this watch because of their claim of having a new sensor.
Personally, since this review I switched from the silicone strap to the nylon, and since then it’s been incredibly accurate, so if you don’t already have the nylon strap I’d recommend that!
I have a Coros Pace arm strap. It’s $79 in the US but accurate and comfortable. I also have it paired at the same time to my Apple Watch on the opposite wrist. It connects quicker to Apple than my Coros Watch.
yep I just got the heart rate monitor and it does a great job - review video coming soon!
Goodluck with your content, keep going
Nice review! Can you do a review on how the navigation/maps work?
I’ll see what I can do!
@@johnhinton_runs thanks, I appreciate it!
Thank you for the divisive review 😁 I'm rocking garmin 245 music (old)
Suggested workout are good or Garmin ? Is a deciding factor for me because I don't have a trainer
Suggested workouts are only on Garmin, although you can download training plans to the Coros from the website. There are plenty of places you can download training plans that will work better than the suggested workout, or find UA-cam videos of how to build a training plan for yourself and adapt them to your training lifestyle.
@@johnhinton_runs Yeah does Garmin suggested workouts based on your training metrics load and recovery factors?
yes essentially, assuming your heart rate data is correct. obviously it can’t tell if you’ve got a niggle or some external factors that could affect your training
The inability to connect to Spotify is a dealbreaker for me. Syncing playlists is just too easy rather than downloading music manually.
What would you recommend then?
Heart rate and sleep tracking was awful with the silicon soon as I switched to nylon great accuracy really snug fit
Nylon every time looks better to 👍
about a month after i posted this video I got the nylon strap and it’s worked a lot better.
Great review John, I think I'm sold on the pace 3. Any advice for a beginner runner wanting to do a half-marathon this year? Mostly looking for a weekly workout plan that'll prepare me for the race.
There are loads of online plans you can look at! There are some free examples but also ones you can pay a few pounds for from Ben Parkes, The Running Channel etc. In essence, the main things to do are slowly increase volume, incorporate some strength work, and some interval sessions. UA-cam would be a great place to start to find half marathon training tips! Maybe I’ll do a video on it in the future! If you do get the Pace 3, COROS also has a selection of training plans that you can load on to the watch, there may be a suitable half marathon one there. Good luck!
I've been looking at it for a while and think i'm going to get it ! Little question can you use the map on the watch without having your phone and can you download maps on the watch to look at without having your phone ? Is it any good in the gym for strength workouts? Great review thanks !
You don’t have to have your phone with you for routes that you’ve planned. You can’t see a map unless you’ve got a route planned though, and even then it’s only the line of the route you can see. I’ve found the strength function to be better than garmin - you can select which muscle group you’re working on and the set / rest layout seems logical. Hope that helps!
Great thanks so much! Keep it up!!
Maps on the Pace 3? Isn't it just breadcrumb navigation?
Yes, I should’ve been more clear that you just get the line of your planned route, no context around that. The Apex line has more detailed maps I think.
What coros watch can you download music to? Also does it give voice commands like the garmin watch do?
All of the current Coros watches you can download music to (pace 3 / apex etc.). I don’t believe any have voice commands though.
I would prefer the FR265 over the Coros3. But the price is also higher. But would choose the Coros 3 over the new Garmin FR165. So if you're into a budget runnerwatch, this can be the one.
I went from garmin to coros and I’m definitely going back to garmin.
what's the reason?
Elaborate please.
Thank you for the feedback! I wanted to buy a Coros but you made me change my mind. I'm ordering a Garmin watch right now!
So far I'm satisfied with Garmin. starting from sensors, features, and more.
Have COROS and definitely going COROS again when the time comes.
ngl but my coros pace 3 can lock the gps about 4-5 second which is really crazy, but it takes time to lock heartrate about 10-13 second, sometimes 15sec
Yeah that’s what I’ve found, I’m always waiting for heart rate longer than GPS
Can I import workouts from runna to the watch and go only with the watch and without my phone?
You should be able to connect your Runna app and make the training plans sync to your watch! Not 100% sure but either way you can manually set up the workouts on the COROS app.
good review. does it have GPS /
is it compatible with Strava?
yep, great GPS and you can link it to Strava via the app!
After switching over, do you just leave your old data in the Garmin app?
Yeah, I just decided to start fresh in the coros app. Everything I have from Garmin is on Strava anyway.
You can do more macro shots while you talk in the background.. or maybe add texts which are catchy while you talk in the background.. Too much info being dumped without enough seeing the watch... :/
thank you
:)
The problem for Coros is that the 255 is now at the same price and it's the better watch, if you can stomach the 46mm size.
I disagree, I've just recently returned my 255s and now have the Pace 3, I find it the better watch by far.
Why ?@@RuthyB88
@@RuthyB88 im now pondering what watch to buy, can you elaborate your answer please??
I sent my Coros 3 back and went back to Garmin!
why?
It’s a pass for me. I could never leave my enduro 2 ☺️love it my daily driver 😄
Yeah fair enough, that’s a pretty big step up from the kind of budget that COROS is targeting so I don’t blame you.
I've got a Forerunner 235, and I was thinking to upgrade to a Pace 3 (as I can't justify the cost of a 265)
The main issue I have with the 235 is the slowness of locking onto GPS
I’ve found the GPS on the PACE 3 to be really, really good, on Dual Frequency mode at least. It locks on usually within 20 seconds. I do feel like COROS has a lot of the features of the 265 at a much cheaper price point.
Pick up the 255. A 265 without the training readyness, and the Amoled touch display. You'll gonna love it.
@@gdb-u6h Don't know why this should make any sense. 🤔🤷♂️
'll guess you are doing yourself short.
I wonder how many people complaining about the watch are proper runners or are they complaining about Coros not being linked to Spotify, which, for me, is an absolute non-issue.
Yeah, while the term ‘proper runner’ may be contentious, I very much agree that I just don’t see not having Spotify as a deal-breaker for a fitness watch, especially with the kind of target audience a brand like COROS aims for.
@@johnhinton_runs spot on mate. It's as easily fixed as buying a pair of shorts with a zip pocket in the back and tucking your phone in there.
Dude is comparing a watch realeased 2019 vs 2023 :DDD
Yeah, to be fair maybe it’s a bit of an unfair comparison, but that’s the watch I’ve got experience with and hopefully there are more general garmin to coros comparisons within the video. 👍
Major Fail on both is lack of Usb-C charging port.
Yeah this definitely isn’t something that seems to have entered the sports watch market yet, all chargers are very unique.
Waterproofing the connection without slowing charging is the issue for the industry
You clearly havent watched scientific review of coros pace 3, its hr is 99% accurate compared to polar chest strap, so no need for these fucking burdens 😊
Wrist based heart rate is inherently inaccurate, it’s not a COROS based thing, and they’ve improved their sensor from the pace 2. They wouldn’t bother to release a separate heart rate monitor (still only 95% accurate within 3bpm) if the watch was always accurate, and almost all reviews mention this.
