Wood is strong, what will cause issues is when that ice expands and later melts, the water will get under all the roof shingles, in every crack, the walls, attics and ceilings will get wet and it will be a mess inside. What's worse is the power is off so the whole inside of frozen too, pipes and sewer lines, and everything frozen means it will be dripping humid when the heat is on, this is only the first week of winter too!

I wanted to get an idea of how much all of the ice on the house at the beginning weighs. So I did some back of the envelope math to figure out how much just ONE of those gigantic icicles weighs. If you had an icicle just 2 feet wide and 6 feet long, though a lot of the ones here look much larger, an icicle that size would be 4,500lbs. Just ONE icicle. Nevermind all of the icicles all around the house. And especially the countless tons of ice that would be on top of the house. Ice storms like this are bad for weighing down powerlines and braches with ice until they collapse. I'm surprised the same hasn't happened to any houses. At least that I've heard of.
