    Hands down the most informative TOS video I’ve ever seen. Not only did I watch from start to finish, I need to go back and watch at least 3 more times to absorb it all. Not sure how this is not at the top of every TOS video search. Won’t be watching anything else for the next month except every video you have that I can find. Thank you 🙏🏻

    Wow … at first that’s all I could say, but those who follow me to your video deserve more than that. Somebody already said, “possibly the most valuable 90 minutes I’ve ever spent”. I started with thinkorswim three weeks ago and devoured everything I could find. Nothing compares to you (re: Sinead O’Connor). I’m 74 and worked a fairly high-level position in ‘big’ corporate America, in software development and User Experience design, so I know what’s good. Your video is so much more than good. Your organization, the content flow, your explanations, your tips, and your warnings have helped me tremendously. Anyone who doesn’t sit through your entire tutorial, AND extend their education on your website, shouldn’t be trading options - they should just sign up for a robo advisor or invest in index funds.

    Today is 6-29-2022. I just watched this video and found it very helpful. I have had TOS for a while, but until this video I did not how to customize the scans. I have been a TC-2000 user and I like TC-2000 because they have the sharpest and cleanest charts of anyone. However, from what I have learned in this video, I will cancel TC-2000 in favor of TOS.

    A few things I’ve learned about the ToS platform:
    Your scan column settings are only saved if you properly log out of ToS, or … you *SAVE* your workspace! (Learning that was priceless!) I’ve had a number of times where my ToS installation got corrupted (somehow). TD’s tech support solution is, almost always, *re-installing* ToS. Then when you bring it back up, you have a blank slate. None of your special settings, formats, etc. are saved. If you occasionally save your workspace, then if you have to reinstall it on your computer, or another computer, you can just reload the saved workspace. Also, the Flexible Grid of charts can be saved separately.
    As for scripts timing out, I also found out that that is a function of how busy the server is. A script/scan that works once may not work at another time, and vice versa.
    BTW, scan results are not only useful for alerts but also can be used for conditional orders. For example, if you use some scheme to determine Stop Loss orders, you can use them (with GREAT care) to enter or close out a trade. I use a “volatility stop” script rather than a conventional stop order. While that’s a third party scan that I obtained separately, you can also use a built-in function, like *_Parabolic SAR_* or write a condition like selling when price is above/below a certain moving average.

    • @Hahntech
      @Hahntech  Рік тому

      Thanks for providing that feedback. But let me issue a word of caution about saved workspaces:
      Be careful about trusting the "Saved Workspace". My experience has show that particular item being tied to a folder named "usergui" which is located in the Thinkorswim program folder. Which means a saved workspace is:
      1. Stored locally on your device
      2. NOT stored in the Thinkorswim servers where you might be able to retrieve it from another device
      3. Is therefore deleted when you remove and reinstall Thinkorswim
      So make a copy of the folder named "usergui". Then test things out to make sure you have a way of restoring your saved workspaces after reinstalling Thinkorswim. For example by copying the "usergui" folder from the previous installation into the brand new installation.
      And the reason why this behaves this way is important. Between various devices you have many variables which could present serious issues if you tried to use a saved workspace on another device. Screen resolution is the number one concern. But this is especially true if you try to move a saved workspace from a PC with multiple monitors and load that onto a laptop with only one monitor.

    @hahn Thank you for this! Would you happen to have created one for the Option Hacker?

    • @Hahntech
      @Hahntech  Рік тому

      No I have not. And I doubt that I will. In our Q&A Forum we have had numerous requests for scans based on options and none of them were able to be completed using the Option Hacker tool on Thinkorswim. One of the biggest failings is that the Study Filters can only "see" stock data. There is no way to write a custom script that reads data from the options market, because the Study Filter cannot access any of the options market data. Thinkorswim developers have a lot of work to do before the Options Hacker screen has any real utility.

    If I set the time frame to run the first 10 minutes of the day will a scan alert trigger after those 10 minutes? Like I want to set the high and low for first 10 minutes of the day then alert on a break below or above the high and low after that… 🤔 awesome video by the way

    Thank you for this video, I have a question, is there a way to write a scan query that only looks at a single Stock for its 52w high/low (e.g BA), all the samples tutorials I am finding is for scanning for everything then reducing via filters, and the 'stock' filter does not have an option to say NAME=BA, maybe a custom filter!. if this can be done somewhere else in TOS is also fine. I was able to get 52 high/low added to my TOS display but only in the "Monitor" tab and only for my Equity holdings. Please advise -- thanks.

      For custom alerts based on only a single ticker symbol you will the Study Alert, which is found under the MarketWatch tab. The following post in our Q&A Forum describes the various options available for generating custom alerts on Thinkorswim: www.hahn-tech.com/ans/generate-alerts-from-macdstrat-chart-strategy/

    Awesome info. I watched the whole thing, very good. I am having a big problem: my scans don't work after market hours and in the premarket. The prices of stocks don't change. I clicked the post-market box of studies filters. Can't get it to work. I changed the column from Last price to Mark and still nothing. Don't get it.

    • @Hahntech
      @Hahntech  Рік тому

      Yours is a very common misunderstanding. You do not have to use something other than the "close" to configure a scan to run during extended hours session. In thinkscript, "close" is always the current price for whatever time frame and sessions hours you have set on the Study Filter of a custom scan. I suggest you browse through existing solutions in our Q&A Forum where we have many examples of scans that run during extended hours. In our forum you can search for specific terms. The following link will show the search results. I searched for the term "premarket" in the Stock Scanners topic:

    Is it possible to do scans of historical market data instead of present day? For example if I wanted to run a custom technical indicator scan of market data from a month or a year ago, etc and see what stocks met that criteria on a certain day in history and then I could see how those stocks performed going forward to present day. I don't think it's possible but just thought I would ask.

    • @Hahntech
      @Hahntech  3 роки тому

      Yes, it is possible. I do this frequently but there is nothing you can do from user settings to achieve this. The code must be adapted to do this. Each solution is unique. However before you get to far down this rabbit hole you need to understand the limits to the historical data available to scans in Thinkorswim: tlc.thinkorswim.com/center/howToTos/thinkManual/Scan/Stock-Hacker/studyfilters

    i tried scanning the ETF's for RSI, and DMI and the results of the scan do not match the graphs for a number of time scales such as 4 hr, daily, weekly and monthly. is thye scanning tool restricted to stocks where it is robust and works well? TIA

    • @Hahntech
      @Hahntech  11 місяців тому +1

      In regards to daily, weekly and monthly time frames, the results are typically 100% matching the charts. (I have not come across any issues and I build a lot of custom scans for individual clients as well as for solutions in our Q&A Forum). If you find they are not matching, then you need to recheck all of your settings. Intraday time frames can sometimes fail to match charts. But that is typically related to a chart setting which needs to be turned off. Pretty sure I explained that last bit in the video.

Currently i have all of the following saved as one, and then any of the following as another, and i use all of the following, intersect with " i select the any of the following scanner". i have it ran for few days now but no result. Or can i just do "all of the following + any of the following in 1 scanner"?

      The tool was designed so that you can include all condition groups to the same scan. You can have "All of the following", "Any of the following" and "None of the following" on the same custom scan. Start with something very basic, which you know will work, then gradually increase the complexity until you reach your desired goal.

      What time frame did you apply to the Study Filter the last time you saved the scan? For a dynamic watchlist, the refresh rate is mostly determined by the time frame you have selected for the scan. There are exceptions.
