- In this video we’ll learn how to scan for unusual options activity within the ThinkorSwim platform. We’ll also touch on how you can incorporate trade flash to quickly see large options trades, news announcements, and much more.

The trade flash gadget is the simplest way to find unusual options activity within the thinkorswim platform. You simply need to add it to your side panel and it will display any large options activity throughout the market. You’ll be able to see both long and short options trades, quickly tell if they were apart of a spread, then do your own diligence from there.
You also have the ability to create your own custom scan for unusual options activity through the scan tab. In this video we’ll be creating scan for options that have at least 2,500 contracts traded today, the volume is greater than the open interest (tends to suggest the trading volume is exceptionally high today) and we’ll then throw in the call/put sizzle index to find the most active underlying’s.

nice video was lookin at option blocks trades and flow services and found the flash trade now i need to set up a account and see if it's on the mobile app as i work a lot i tend to take long calls and puts with stop orders in place for when i'm not able to watch

This is great. I will need to check this to see if it picked up the WMT weekly 130P that had unusually high volume today around 3:30 ET which was appears to have been a news leak.

Thank you for the video! One question, once you've set everything up and you perform a scan, what is the time frame that the scan is looking at to provide your list of 35 contracts? I just crunched a scan myself and also see a BIDU 100P contract that expires this upcoming Friday is already up 950%... sheesh. I suppose another question is, is it possible to see when that specific trade was entered? I think it's a little too late to jump into a trade that's already up that much haha.
As others have said the custom filter causes no matches to show up. Once you remove that filter it'll work but not sure if it does what you want it to acheive.

the study filter is not available for paper money
can you share the scan url so that we can have it readymade for testing. Also have you refined it further more to give accurate results

Dang, I'm surprised someone this knowledgeable is using think or swim. Not that there is a problem with that but it seems like all the pros use other platforms.

Hello, Thanks for the video. i’ve been trying to run this scan for the last few days but I come back with no results I think my error is coming from the custom study. Have you been having the same issue?
Same here. Tried 3 times/saved with different names...still nothing. It just won't scan.
I, instead deleted the Custom condition. This way, it is at least showing me results.
why are some buy orders and sell orders in gray? I cant find the meaning posted anywhere.

For some reason the volume > OI condition doesn't work for me
volume filter eliminated everything. not sure but seems like that might not be working in TOS
When I set volume > open interest, I always get 'No matching symbols' as results. Can you please help me resolve this issue? I tried this on multiple days. But same results.
Idk what's happening but my list simply won't populate. When I select the Options Volume filter - nothing even appears.

When I try to add a study filter to my scan I get a message that says I am not permissioned for study filters
It sounds like you're in PaperMoney. You'll only be able to use study filters in live trading.
The sales tag isn’t showing up on mine
I wasn't able to find anyway to hide it. The only thing I can think of is that it may require advanced features. You can give their support line a call and have them flip that on. Then check tomorrow and see if that fixes it!
did you figure out why it stopped working ?
excuse me i have a question regarding unusual scan. what does it mean when a unusual scan pops up right at opening bell but disappears after a while. im talking about amd there where alot of scans for calls but now they are gone.
Do they disappear in the scan tab or when you have them opened as a watchlist?

@@MrDemian051 I don't know what you mean by disappearing. When I hit scan, only those that still meet the criteria will be displayed.
Scan does not work for me either, when I delete all conditions/Filters except "Volume is greater than Open Interest" I do get futures only. Seems that it's not scaning Stocks. Can someone tell me how I can get it to scan Stocks ? Thanks Freddy
TOS is a POS, they dirty. I made a great option scanner and it will not scan on TOS anymore after some of their updates
This no longer works. I am just on the call with a support person from TOS and she cant get it to work from here side either. Please let me know if this still works for you

Can someone help! This is the type of scan I have been looking for but it doesn't seem to work for me. It appears it only works on "All Symbols" and only shows the futures as results (no stocks results). When I use "All Stock" or any other there are no results.

how do you save this scan?
In the upper right hand corner you'll see an icon that looks like three little lines. Once you click on that you'll see "save scan query."

Scan doesn't work. Using "All Symbols" only returns futures/minis. If you are getting the Option Scan to work please detail any other settings you might have saved in TOS memory or computer memory or blocks.

Doesn’t work great as it is missing the biggest insight into market today WMT July 29 130P. Over 13,000 contracts with open interest only at 348 doesn’t pick it up in scan.
It won't be perfect. In this case the option volume for walmart was low across the board. It didn't meet the criteria of having a call/put sizzle greater than 2.0
It also didn't show in trade flash which is pretty odd. With that kind of volume I would have though a couple large trades, but based on that it must have a been many smaller trades
I followed your instructions to the letter and the scanner didn't show me jack shit.
I run it everyday without issue. I’m out of town for a bit, but I’ll run it when I’m back to see if something somehow “broke” in the last few days
