I lived there from the 2nd grade to the 10th grade in the 60s. Had a lot of fun growing up there. We moved to Huntington in 1970. Kinda sad to see the population drop so much since then.
Thanks guys for highlighting our beautiful County!!! By the way my mother is a real McCoy and her sister married a Hatfield and we all get along just fine now!❤😂🎉
I was there during the flood of 77 got to ride around all Matawan and Williamson I was a medic and the chief of police took some of us I visited an old cemetery in Matewan I remember he told us about the car dealership was gone but I believe the bank was still there the tug river is so beautiful I remember the old railroad trestle in Williamson and I believe there was still some water under it its been so long and I'm getting alot older but hey from one hillbilly to another God bless the USA 🇺🇸 and the great state of West by God Virginia stay safe and love watching your videos
Leo, Thanks for the tour. I am surprised at how they changed Death Rock from a rustic stop to a mini park. Also that building across from the old Memorial Hospital was the Williamson Water Works. They would take water from Tug River and pump it to that building for treatment and purification. You forgot to mention that business was so good that Claudia McCoy not only ran the Alvon Hotel, she also had the Mingo Hotel and Restaurant on Third Ave.
This is the place where our Carter-Hatfield-Browning family all grew up for several generations. I love your videos I show my daughters so they can see where their family roots are💕🫶🏼
Seems like my kind of town. Very laid back and peaceful. Had the opportunity to drive thru W.V. about to years ago in semi. Didn’t go through your town but seen a lot of purty countryside out there.
My mother was from Clarksburg and alas married a handsome Texan. She was forever a West Virginian and missed WVA her whole life. We kids learned " The West Virginia Hills". right along with " Texas Our Texas". The Stealeys built a summer cabin up on the Little Kanawa River near Wildcat,WVA. I got to visit and the swinging bridge scared me to death. I so appreciate you and Heather's videos . It's like hearing Mother's WVA tales and stories. Thank you.
I enjoyed this video so much. Love history & everything about it. Thank you for sharing your hometown & it's awesome history! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving
Born and raised in Sistersville, WV. now retired and living in Fairmont, WV. I do so love seeing these video's of our beautiful state. Would not want to live any where else. I've not been down to Williamson yet but the Mrs. and I made a pact to at least visit all of our state parks and hopefully our travels will eventually get us down your way. Thanks so much for sharing !.
My twins are were the last babies to be born at the old hospital. they had to bring equipment back over from the new hospital because I had to have a C-section. They laughed because they said if I could have held off a week my sons would have been the first to born at the new hospital… I said no thanks I want this over! Lol it’s a good memory.
Many memories good and not so good in Williamson. We would travel from Lovely, KY to Williamson for shopping at Sears, the record store, clothing and shoe stores. The 5 and dime store and for fabric. Is the old Cinderella Theater still there? In 1977 the entire area had a devastating flood 😢. I remember Stewart's on US 52. The BEST ROOT BEER ❤❤❤ and the hotdogs were good. Had several relatives die at the Miner's hospital on the KY side. 292 was always full of pot holes😂. Thank you for the trip down memory lane! Keep up the awsome work.❤❤❤
@@thehillbillyfiles such a shame Stewart's is gone😪 Do you know if there is a paranormal group that usually does tours of the old hospital on the hill? I belonged to a group when I lived in GA.
Loved this video. This town and especially the Tug River is so beautiful and clean. Where I live the trash has taken over and the locals will not do anything about it. 😔 It's really a shame. There is so much trash in our waterways and our rural areas too! It's a disgrace..so, to see this is breathtaking! Good job to you guys!!
Do what i did . Organize some folk whom are like minded and Clean it up Yourself . I cleaned up My neighborhood , im Rural and it was terrible here . Now its really clean and all throughout the spring/summer i carry garbage bags and recycling bags with me on my rides and ifi see crap ill bag it up and leave it at the side, intersection usually and call the county and they remove it . Talk to your city/township and i bet they would be willing to help in some manner . Hell you may even be able to get Them to do it if you raise a big enough fuss :) My Motto is "Dont wait for others to do what You can Do Now" . BTW . I am a Disabled individual. If I can do it Anyone can . I fucking HATE litter and those who litter with a passion . Ive even shamed half the towns businesses that had garbage everywhere .. its clean now . Cheers.
@@fetus2280 OH believe me I do get out and pick it up. Not found any others willing to help. Have talked to officials they just say Noone wants to work. Not enough man power. Lol. So yeah for the most part I do what I can in my area. I'm like you, always hate to see litter and try to teach my family to pick it up when you see trash! Just as soon as it's all picked up and clean- seems we've got some spitefuls that throw down even more! It is what it is...guess it's just the sign of the times full of disrespectful humans!
Enjoyed this video. We use to do our shopping there in the 40's and 50's. Haven't been there in many years however it's on my bucket list for this summer.

These are awesome videos I'm from ohio but my grandma is from Naugatuck and I have some family in the area, I'm pretty sure my aunt lives or works in Williamson
Leo with your hometown experience knows those mountains like you know your restroom at the house I am sure you head up the mountain rescue team there in your area to find lost people up in the mountain, s. That little town could become a year around tourist destination with a minimum investment of money, get a couple of heavy-duty snow-making machines and create a couple of ski hills and Leo you could create a company of guided hunts back in the mountains for deer and Bear and set up a large primitive wilderness camping area, it would just be a matter of you doing it because you have the local knowledge and the expertise, and along with the proper scheduling this area could easily be turned into a year tourist destination, good luck ❤
Stopped there about a month ago and just about got robbed twice lol. I thought it was funny the two gentlemen tried to rob me lol. I ain’t no little feller and when they seen me, they turned away quick. It was pretty obvious they were up to no good. I’m from Southeastern Kentucky born and raised so we all are about the same. I’ve worked twenty years underground for Bluediamond and BlackHawk. “Roof Bolter.” As I said, I just laughed and shook it off. I guess they thought I was a tourist. With that being said. We absolutely love West Virginia and it’s our second home. We’ve been over here for the past year working and you can’t find better folks besides the ones that tried to rob us lol
