From the first time i heard this song the bass line really stuck out for me even tho i play guitar and some drums...i thought there was more thumb slapping and plucking but only those few times. What an amazing bass line and i would agree probably one of the best in the 80s no doubt. Well done buddy
One of those bass lines that gets 100 times better when you try to play it
One of my all-time favorite bass lines since about '83 when I was ten years old and was John Taylor in our little gang in elementary school. :) Good memories.
What a great cover. Duran Duran were pretty remarkable. Amazing rhythm section and all the rest was pretty amazing as well.
awesome job dude.....I was too busy listening to Geddy, Geezer and Steve Harris when this came out.....but I became more open minded in my genres as I got older and Taylor became one of my favs to listen to.....difficult to duplicate IMO
Love the bass on this song. One of my all time fav bass parts.
John Taylor is one of my favourite bass players. Very under-rated. You've done a top cover.
When they take it down, that's when you know you've nailed it.
John Taylor for sure is one of the most great bass players of all times. You did an excellent job as well, congrats to you.
Great piece of playing looks very complicated
John Taylor is one of my favourite bass players. Very under-rated. You've done a top cover.
One of the best 80s basslines
I love Duran Duran!
For me Jonh Taylor is one of the best bass players in the world!
Very good man!!!👏👏👏
Damn..... I guess Duran Duran had a bad ass bass player. Never would’ve guessed
Jacob Roberts
John Taylor is a very respected bassist. Check out his work in Power Station.
John Taylor is a bass god.
John Taylor is one of the best...much respect.
Jacob Roberts yeah Bernard Edwards
Dude he was as bad ass he was just drowned out by all the other shit.
I just found out my Bass watches this video while im at work.
Underrated comment
I'm not even a musician, but my recent "discover" of Duran Duran has bringing me to you video every single day for at least 10 days hahahahaha. John Taylor really are a very underrated bassist 'cause he kills! And you're reproduced that (so much) sweet bassline perfectly! I just come here to smile =) Thank you for you talent!
Honestly getting this song down is an accomplishment and I'm excited to be able to play it
Whenever I hear "Rio" my ears focus on that sweet bass. Damn sounds nice.

If anyone questions the absolute fact that John Taylor writes the most amazing Bass parts, here you go!!! His playing style defies definition and all logic!
Man you make that look so easy.. great work mate..👍..JT is the man
I can't believe i can play this now. I'm mostly a guitarist. More John Taylor :) "Girls on Film"? paleez
When I think of the bass guitar this is the bass line that immediately comes to mind. Absolutely awesome! As someone who grew up on rock, metal, punk etc.. I’ve always loved Duran Duran and hate the idiots that lump them as a “boy band” “80s band” or “80s boy band”! 😂
I’ve seen them live and they never disappoint… fantastic band.. fantastic bass line and fantastic cover… thank you! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This guy nails the tone as well!
Lho ascoltata dopo tanti anni e non ricordavo questo bellissimo giro basso. Bellissimo 👍
Omg - you rocked this! Thanks so much for posting - it means so much to me, like a birthday, or a pretty view!
Just beautiful playing man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the song love how you are just PERFECT at this gem of a bass song !!!!!!!! Nice work hope your career is going great !
Duran duran bass player was/is brilliant.
Very well rendered!
Fantastic mate , you nailed it
When JT was in the Power Station , Robert Palmer said he was the best bass player he had worked with , so underrated
Amazing. Litterally listen to this video more because of how much I appreciate the bass and Duran Duran 🙂
John Taylor is a great bass player, he really knows how to dig that bass groove. ✌️😙
My god you have an incredible Talent this is a notoriously difficult riff to play you nailed it! that is some of the best technical bass guitar playing I have heard in a very long time I'll be looking out for more of your videos, Top SKILLS subscibed.
Clean ghosts. Nicely done!
Both my forearms are cramping just watching him play.
Best I have ever heard for Rio...congrats!
Finally dude! It’s back. I can actually work on this now
So fun! Can't wait to learn it.
Thank you for all your instructional videos too!
Thank you for making this! So awesome to see the song structure, it's a surprisingly complex song like Roundabout.
Really well done!
My favourite DD song when I grab my Bass! Well played! You got the groove!
That was excellent! great playing!!
Hey, my kid asked for a Rickenbacker for graduation. I said, NO. Buy one when you're successful. He just got one two weeks ago at 24. I told him to learn Rio from Duran Duran. I was 19 when this song came out. I don't like Duran Duran so much, but I told him it was one of the greatest bass rifts in music. Great stuff!
I feel like the bassist said "man this song is boring, I'm gonna have some fun"
Duran Duran have some of the best bass lines around
Bass god John Taylor ;)
@Pim Slickin john's bassline is more catchy and interesting than the song itself
@@c4test Let's just be fair, the whole song is tooooooooooo catchy. But the bassline is even more sweet, even more when you see a make-believe saxist J.T. and the end of Rio music video.
@Alejandro Moreno S. r/woooosh
You greased it. John Taylor wrote and played some funky basslines. This one is going to be a while at my level. Thanks for posting.
Brilliant cover. I've just found your channel and this is the first video of your that i've seen. I see that you have been making so many videos over the years and they are all consistent. That is really a credit to you. You've got a new subscriber here for sure (not that you need it, you're at 865k subs at the moment!! Thats awesome. )
✨🎶Una de las rolas que expone el bajo a su máxima expresión magistralmente 🤷🏻♂️❤️🇲🇽💯
Check John Taylor's video about this song they reticently posted on the Duran Duran channel! You nailed it, dude, congratulations!
John Taylor's bass makes Rio for me. Top class!!
This is so satisfying to play, especially the bridge in the middle of the song
John Taylor, one of my fav Bassist and you nailed it!! Awesone job.
This bassline is kicking my ass! I've just started playing bass properly but most things I've picked up fairly quickly so far - this is the first time I've been properly rattled. Bass technique is hard!
First LP I ever bought, year was 1983 ! And I still got it.
Man! Great job stickin it the whole time. All the right accentuation.
All I can say is… someday. Not today but someday.
you got this :)
This is straight fire! Thank you. Saving this video later to cop these fly licks!
It works! Maybe they stopped caring?? Great tab for a hard song
Very KEWL……… great sound ….. great timing…. Left leg boppin and you a jammin!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Best bass cover I ever heard bro!
As a teenager the song that made me a Duranie (John was working that bassline)! Thank you for this tablature
Great Bass player.. great sounding Bass...
I play with plec... and have learned or fine tuned some songs watching you with the help from the tabs...
Rio is a fab tune.. and never thought I would or could play it... but again.. after watching you and with the tabs I've managed it .. Need to practice more .. ( granted I've no idea with ghost notes ). But keep up the good work 👍
Sono cresciuta con i Duran Duran e devo dirti bravo👏👏 complimenti!!!!!!!!
Sweet playing dude… and that awesome tab too!
うんまいねぇ~。
デュランの曲でベースラインが一番好きな曲です。
ジョンのベースはセンスが良くて格好いいですね。ありゆるジャンルに対応出来て、素晴らしいベーシストだと思います。
John Taylor is a great bassist. Back in the 80s I l was an angry middle school kid and I loved LA metal, and had no idea how good Duran Duran actually was.
Hahaha ditto, definitely not cool to admit to liking Duran Duran as a Headbanger. But the music was just so damn catchy and clever. Was hard not to be a secret fan!
WOW!!! Just completely blown away with that and I'm seriously wondering if I could get anywhere near that. AMAZING
Woah! That was fantastic. I was surprised to pull up this video and see you’re playing a Washburn Taurus t24. I bought one a couple years ago and love it. Plays so smooth and a uniquely beautiful bass. Going to give this song a go myself.
Beautiful guitar, beautiful sound, beautifully played.
It's a fun tune to play for a bass player. This was a very different sound to the pop of the day.
Nailed it!
