    I bought one of these recently primarily for pest control as I live in a Rural area. Fantastic bit of kit although as mentioned on the pricey side. I usually use my trusty TX 200 carbine but I thought this would be bit lighter and versatile being PCP and having multi shot. Straight out of the box I got on with it and now its my go to when I head out the door for a days work. The power adjust is even handy for target practice although I cant measure my best guess seems to be around 7 ft lb on the middle setting and around 4 ft lb on the lower. So ideal for target practice, the lower setting is ideal for indoor target shooting and you get a lot more shots out of that little tank. My Teenage Daughter loves shooting this as its so light.
    One advantage of the small tank I do find is that I can carry my Hill stirrup pump in the Landy and the tank is very quick and easy to top up with a manual pump, ridiculously so I think. The .22 version I have dispatches large vermin with ease and is very point-able and ergonomic. Its not a beauty contest winner but as a working tool it does its job which is what I wanted it for.
    All round very happy, but as mentioned pricey ! which is ok as long as your getting your moneys worth, not a thing to buy for plinking in the backyard but for a go to pest dispatcher hard to beat I think. For a working tool to throw in the Truck or stick in a bag I would recommend.
    Plus points are all of the above, the big negative is the price and that its not pretty.

    I've got the MK 2 version of the Ranger (2024) it has a 2 inch longer barrel and shroud, uses less air (I get 48/50 full power shots UK legal), I feel its even more accurate than my Mk1 version. I love micro carbines, I give it 8.5 out of 10, if it was a pound lighter it would be 10/10.

    • @airgunextra
      @airgunextra  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Joseph. Yes, it will double load. However, in my experience, most double loading incidents occur because the cocking cocking is not precise, or maybe a bit stiff, causing people to probe a pellet but not cock the rifle (and when they realise and cock again they cycle a second pellet). The sidelever on the Ranger XR, indeed all the XR rifles, is so smooth the chances of you failing to cock properly are hugely reduced. In fact, I think the only way you'd double load is if you forgot to take a shot and then cocked again. Thanks for watching.

    Hi Richard. Just watched the video for the 3/4th time. Thanks for taking the time to reply to an earlier query and I hope you don’t mind a second question: at the very end you are seen packing the rifle away but you first remove the moderator. In your testing did you experience any change in p.o.I ? I have an early version of the AA tdr and its poi never changes which I’ve always wondered about. Of course the Atomic attaches by way of a small screw to the barrel whereas all rifles now use screw on mods. I love this little Brocock but would have never thought of removing the mod once zeroed. What’s your experience?

    • @airgunextra

      Hi Graham. Sorry for the delay. I thought I'd replied, but UA-cam says otherwise! Its strange, I have found that vert rarely on some rifles the POI shifts when I remove the silencer, but most of the time it doesn't. The good news with the Ranger is that it made no difference at all.

      @@fixedwheel Hi John. Yes it can. Don't be confused with that making the Ranger an illegal pistol though. Its a rifle with a folded stock.
      The belief that an air rifle of less than 60cm or with a rifled barrel less than 30cm is illegal at more than 6 ft. lbs. is not correct:
      Firearms Act 1968. Part 1 ‘Provision as to Possession, Handling and Distribution of Weapons and Ammunition; Prevention of Crime and Measures to Protect Public Safety’; sub section ‘Prohibition of certain weapons and control of arms traffic’; paragraph 5 ‘Weapons subject to general prohibition’; point (1) (aba) states: “any firearm which either has a barrel less than 30 centimetres in length or is less than 60 centimetres in length, other than an air weapon….”
      Its those last five words that are important.
      Check it out: Firearms Act 1968 (legislation.gov.uk)
      Thanks for watching.

      That was a great review Richard and just the thing I’ve been looking for. I am a subscriber and like the way you include all the factual information in your reviews - surprises me how many reviewers get to the end of a review without running a tape measure over a gun or putting it on the kitchen scales. I’m a big fan of FAC air rifles and have had many over the years including springers. From what you say since the wording of the Act is so specific this rifle would be legal even at FAC levels. That, for pest control purposes, makes it a very very useful little tool. I’m afraid these days and at my age, size really is important😟. Do have one query though - that is a very short barrel and I wonder how it would cope at 18 + 20ftlbs. No doubt our American cousins will determine that.
      Keep them coming Richard👍

      @@airgunextra The problem is section 2.46 of assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/518193/Guidance_on_Firearms_Licensing_Law_April_2016_v20.pdf states "Any air pistol which either has a barrel less than 30cm in length or is less than 60cm in length overall, with a muzzle energy in excess of 6 foot lbs is a prohibited firearm." I see the word "either" in that statement as key.

    250bar? Are you sure you haven’t made a mistake? Where does it say 250bar fill …?
    I only ask as that sound dangerous I’ve only seen max fill on these 240bar, now I’m confused 🤔

      No. Its 250 bar...From the horse's (Tony Belas) mouth...By all means, fill to 240 if you feel safer doing that. I can't imagine it makes a huge difference on shot count.

    how would you compare w/ HW44?

    • @airgunextra
      @airgunextra  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Krish. The HW44 is an out and out pistol and 6 ft lbs in the UK, whereas the Ranger XR is a folding stock carbine at 12 ft lbs. I've not put my hands on the Atomic pistol sold in the US, but it would make a very large pistol and best used with a rest/support of some kind I'd have thought.

      Hi Robert. I agree that shot count would be an issue if you wanted to shoot on the range but it’s intended as an out and out hunting rifle for those who need to travel about. 40 odd shots is a lot of rabbits or squirrels! Thanks for watching. Rich

      Good advice Phil. Its an unfortunate reality of some designs that result in gauges on the end of cylinders. All I can suggest is that you look at them from an angle.

    Not worth the money for such a small shot count

    • @airgunextra
      @airgunextra  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Alan. I think 35/40 shots is ample for a rifle that is meant as a hunting rifle you'd want to carry all day long with, or travel any kind of distance. Granted, not really intended for pouring lead down a range with. I'm taking my .22 Ranger on a squirrel control session in the woods tomorrow. I'll be delighted if I get 35+ squirrels!
