Just to let everyone know The Price is Right had a prime-time version that lasted only a few years which is why Tom was the host. Also the rule for Punch-A-Bunch is that if one of your punches happens to be one of the two that has a $10,000 slip in it the game is automatically over and you win, it's an automatic win. Hence the intro being you could win UP to $10,000! Today it is up to $25,000 and I think there is only one slip that is $25K, but there are still two $10K slips. Unlike before, you could give up the $10K to go for the $25K, but you would be an idiot if you gave that up.
There's also a "car" card now that wins you a car. Also, they no longer have those "second chance" cards that win you a free punch, so you can only win up to 4 punches max.

Man its crazy how much this show didn't change style wise when Bob Barker came on board. Hell Bob Barker even had a similar accent, its just that old Bob really knew how to draw out a moment, how to work a contestant, how to make this these simple games a ton of fun. That was Bob's gift to the show and why it was so great IMO, he could interject the fun and excitement for a dull/petrified fish contestant, he could make people with stage fright feel right at home, help inject some excitement into their segment. And with that energetic personality, he needed no help, sometimes the contestants provided all the energy and craziness.
"Man its crazy how much this show didn't change style wise when Bob Barker came on board." What are you talking about? Bob Barker was the original host of the current incarnation of The Price is Right (originally called "The New Price is Right"), which started in 1972. There was an earlier game show that was also called The Price is Right that aired from 1956 to 1965 that was hosted by Bill Cullen, but the format was so different than the 1972-to-present version that it might as well have been a completely different show. The guy in this video, Tom Kennedy, only hosted a half-hour nighttime version of The Price is Right from 1985 to 1986, which didn't affect the standard one-hour daytime version of the show hosted by Bob Barker.
It's cool that we can get tv shows from the other universe now. If anyone's here from the other universe, our price is right was hosted by Bob Barker, now Drew Carey!
So prizes are covered by insurance and thus the game show only pays for the coverage but it has limits. So the insurance company is probably going to put a cap of $25,000 for the game.
Back in the early 80's, I used to take my naps on the living room floor, while The Price Is Right was on. There was something soothing about it. And the freeze framed at the wrong moment. 5:00
According to Wikipedia on Tom Kennedy he hosted a syndicated nighttime version of The Price Is Right during the 85-86 TV season. He hosted Password Plus from 80 - 82, then former Tattle Tales host Burt Convey hosted Super Password from 84-89. AND Tom Kennedy is STILL Alive. He turned 90 in late February.
No matter what show he hosted, Tom Kennedy always have me the creeps, especially by the way he looked at the female contestants. To me he was such a pig
Not unlike one during Bob's time where they were playing the same game, and one of the holes turned out to be empty. She was awarded the $10,000 by default, due to that error.
Kerry Schlegel I can...1985-1986 the newer nighttime version was on. Luckily it was on in the Detroit market on Channel 2 @ 7:30. I say luckily because the 3 major channels there were always pre-empting and running garbage in certain time spots all day.
It's called Punch-a-bunch, not punchboard. thats just the name of the device that has all the little cubby holes and slips of money inside. the whole game is called punch-a-bunch
This is actually the syndie '85 TPIR that had the late, great Tom Kennedy on it (Kennedy born in 1927 as James Edward Narz, little brother of Jack Narz).
Bob Barker announced it after the closing credits of the daytime version; in one episode, Barker and Rod Roddy did a tribute to him (Roddy was announcer back then). Roddy passed away in 2003; Barker announced it before the opening of the daytime version.
Tom Kennedy is one of my favorite game show MCs. He’s the brother of Jack Narz, host of Now You See It. Tom hosted Whew!, Password Plus after Allen Ludden, Body Language and WordPlay...and this nighttime Price. He always ran the shows with a positive attitude and made the contestants and guest stars feel at home.
Is this when there was a version of The Price Is Right that was in in the evening. I think it was on for maybe a year or just a summer fill in. I remember it had a host that wore glasses and there is a clip of the show in the movie Flight if the Navigator.
A lot of the game show hosts from that era were more or less cut from the same cloth. I mean that in a good way, they had a lot of the same type of personality. Tom Kennedy said that he was somewhat intimidated by Bob Barker's domination of the show, and he wanted to do the nighttime version justice.

"no"
Laugh out Loud .....
I just busted out laughing!!!!
Wait! She still had one more punch to go!! Love seeing these game shows from the 70's and 80's.
RIP, Tom Kennedy.
i know he just Passed away on the 7th least Bob Parker is still alive for awhile he will be 97 next month :).
i am a huge tom kennedy fan
@@adamsATSfan415 Bob Barker not Parker , lol
@@mostlydollshelicopters4799 i know i screwed up XD
Tom Kennedy hosted Split Second in the early/mid 70s. That was a great game show that (I’m sure) few remember. Had a great theme song too.
Strange to hear Gene Wood do part of the ending announcements.
Tom did a good job as the host
Yes, I thought the same thing. Surprisingly good, but of course Bob was the GOAT.
@ im not trying to take anything away from bob but the price is right formate was way better than any other game show especially with 3 beautiful models and giving 2-3 cars away every show
have never seen a contestant win 10K at this game....she was a beauty
Someone may have already answered but there’s a good one on YT with Bob Barker and contestant Bryan…newlywed Bryan…he won four punches and with the first punch…which Bob drew out as he did for good results…Bryan had $5000.
Which, to Bob and the audience’s M
amazement (and his wife’s horror), he offered to return…
Bob asked Bryan’s wife, Carlotta, what he should do…she said “Keep it.” Bob asked the audience to together tell Bryan what to do…they yelled “KEEP IT!”
Bryan’s response: “Audience, if you’re scared, buy a dog. I’m going for it.”
Bob went to the next punch, saw it, acted like Bryan had made a grave mistake, then opened the card that said $10,000 to everyone’s joy. It’s definitely on UA-cam.
Tom Kennedy fumbled on the reveal, but he still (metaphorically) blew the roof off the studio with it!
I think the reveal even surprised him
@@jh.4770 Yep. And a few seconds later, he remembered the other card ($50 + a Second Chance). But his jaw was on the floor, the same as hers.
"if it's higher, you get a punch" lol
yeah this game is rigged she didn't get knocked the fuck out for screaming
HOW is it rigged Jallybrain?
Man its crazy how much this show didn't change style wise when Bob Barker came on board. Hell Bob Barker even had a similar accent, its just that old Bob really knew how to draw out a moment, how to work a contestant, how to make this these simple games a ton of fun.
That was Bob's gift to the show and why it was so great IMO, he could interject the fun and excitement for a dull/petrified fish contestant, he could make people with stage fright feel right at home, help inject some excitement into their segment.
And with that energetic personality, he needed no help, sometimes the contestants provided all the energy and craziness.
"Man its crazy how much this show didn't change style wise when Bob Barker came on board."
What are you talking about? Bob Barker was the original host of the current incarnation of The Price is Right (originally called "The New Price is Right"), which started in 1972. There was an earlier game show that was also called The Price is Right that aired from 1956 to 1965 that was hosted by Bill Cullen, but the format was so different than the 1972-to-present version that it might as well have been a completely different show.
The guy in this video, Tom Kennedy, only hosted a half-hour nighttime version of The Price is Right from 1985 to 1986, which didn't affect the standard one-hour daytime version of the show hosted by Bob Barker.
This must have been the nighttime show version of The Price is Right that I remember in the 70s and 80s
@Lotta Sunshine well im not sure what year this is but based on the clothes and hair style its definitely 80's.
@Lotta Sunshine another comment said this ran at night for one season in the mid 80's.
Always liked when Tom Kennedy hosted the show.
Ruben Delgadillo---He was as well as Dennis James.
It's cool that we can get tv shows from the other universe now. If anyone's here from the other universe, our price is right was hosted by Bob Barker, now Drew Carey!
They should add the second chance rule back
Chris P Bacon No Drew took that away when they up the money to $25K
So prizes are covered by insurance and thus the game show only pays for the coverage but it has limits. So the insurance company is probably going to put a cap of $25,000 for the game.
It wasn't in Bob's Million Dollar Spectaculars, either. Keeps the game going and removes confusion.
It keeps contestants from winning more than the advertised $25,000
Back in the early 80's, I used to take my naps on the living room floor, while The Price Is Right was on. There was something soothing about it.
And the freeze framed at the wrong moment. 5:00
RIP
Tom Kennedy.
Wow, $10,050! That's good considering the 1980's time zone. In 2020, that won't even get you a small house.
Feels like twilight zone watching this guy host
Kathleen is so pretty.
She has a SEXY pair of legs too.
is that tom kennedy?
Yes it was.
what year did tom kennedy retire password plus to host this show?
According to Wikipedia on Tom Kennedy he hosted a syndicated nighttime version of The Price Is Right during the 85-86 TV season. He hosted Password Plus from 80 - 82, then former Tattle Tales host Burt Convey hosted Super Password from 84-89. AND Tom Kennedy is STILL Alive. He turned 90 in late February.
Tom Kennedy was waiting for hugs and kisses!
No matter what show he hosted, Tom Kennedy always have me the creeps, especially by the way he looked at the female contestants. To me he was such a pig
Just think. That contestant is probably pushing 70 years old now. How time flys.
What happened to the punchboard slip that fell down below the punchboard?
I saw that too!
Not unlike one during Bob's time where they were playing the same game, and one of the holes turned out to be empty. She was awarded the $10,000 by default, due to that error.
I cannot remember Tom Kennedy being the host on Price Is Right! haha (Bob Barker was unforgetable!)
Kerry Schlegel I can...1985-1986 the newer nighttime version was on. Luckily it was on in the Detroit market on Channel 2 @ 7:30. I say luckily because the 3 major channels there were always pre-empting and running garbage in certain time spots all day.
The nighttime version with Kennedy only ran for one season, so this has to be 1985-1986, so just over 30 years ago.
33 years or 34 years
Yep I remember the night time version & Tom Kennedy and Dennis James & Tom went on to host Name That Tune.
It's called Punch-a-bunch, not punchboard. thats just the name of the device that has all the little cubby holes and slips of money inside. the whole game is called punch-a-bunch
Does anyone know why Price is Right discontinued the Second Chance on Punch-A-Bunch? I really liked that feature. I wish they would bring it back.
He didn't even ask if she wanted to put it back and look at the 4th punch, sheez what kind of host is that?
$10,000 is the top amount... If she had looked at the next it would be lower. Why would she give $10,000 to get something lower...
Seriously you would give up $10k and wind up with a lower amount? You do know there is only one $10k on the entire board?
Two, actually.
FlagDUDE08 The breakdown, right? :)
one time a guy won $5,000 & actually gave it back and won $10,000!
Tom Kennedy was a great game show host.
Tom Kennedy was very underrated
Back when 10k meant something...
Knoar that could pay off a few small bills for me today, I wouldn’t turn it down.
It still DOES.
I mean, that's like 8 months rent for me.. That still means something
It will mean something until we leave this life and move onto whatever forms of exchange are used past here.
but I do get your point. You could probably buy 2 brand new sports cars for $10,000 at the time this was filmed.
The great Tom Kennedy from Louisville Ky
Gosh, you can't get no luckier that!
I don't remember seeing him as the host, this must have been a prime time special
+ this contestant is a cutie !!
She is stunning my man.
This is actually the syndie '85 TPIR that had the late, great Tom Kennedy on it (Kennedy born in 1927 as James Edward Narz, little brother of Jack Narz).
WHOOP WHOOP WHOOOOOOOOOOOP
mixon270 the whoop whoop whoop really adds to the excitement! I need a whoop generator machine in my life!
i don't know who this guy is but i like him. he's a good host.
This was Tom Kennedy, former long-time game show host, and little brother of another longtime host, Jack Narz.
I never knew Tom hosted The Price is Right. Was Bob out of town?
Nighttime version
@@debbiebryant5743 thank you Debbie
Is Tom Kennedy filling in for Bob Barker?
What year is this episode, with Johnny Olson announcing?
This is the NIGHTTIME Price is right. Syndicated in the mid 80's. Johnny Olsen died shortly after this.
Bob Barker announced it after the closing credits of the daytime version; in one episode, Barker and Rod Roddy did a tribute to him (Roddy was announcer back then). Roddy passed away in 2003; Barker announced it before the opening of the daytime version.
I have never seen that host before, I'm more familiar with Bob Barker.
@@FrankTeddy2011 He was a better host than Drew Carey...
@@mr.c1563 a catfish would better than Drew Carey.😂
Is this when there was a version of The Price Is Right that was in in the evening. I think it was on for maybe a year or just a summer fill in. I remember it had a host that wore glasses and there is a clip of the show in the movie Flight if the Navigator.
Punch A Bunch is one of my favorite games on The Price is Right.
Bill Cullen was the first host of the price is right back in the 50s
Yep...back when it was just bidding on prizes. No pricing games back then
The way they capture the winning or losing contestants faces a car by the 80s with an am radio only
I thought only bob Barker hosted The Price is Right
Tom Kennedy hosted the Nightime Price is Right, from September 1985 to May 1986.
Me too, until Drew Carey
@@Buskieboy As did Dennis James.
Old school 80's we're fun
Anyone else creeped out the way this guy speaks is EXACTLY as Bob did. The same inflection, tone, etc. It is weird lol
Just in a different voice lol but same everything else
Or almost as creepy as me replying to you being creeped out by the creepiness of the posting of the creepily recorded video from tv ages ago :O
Necrodius All those Creepy words CREEPS THE HECK OUT OF ME ! 😲😂
A lot of the game show hosts from that era were more or less cut from the same cloth. I mean that in a good way, they had a lot of the same type of personality. Tom Kennedy said that he was somewhat intimidated by Bob Barker's domination of the show, and he wanted to do the nighttime version justice.
That is Bob Barker
nothing better than the whoop whoop whoop
so weird seeing contestants like Kathleen, she's kinda dressed up to be on TV.
ah, the good ol' days.
If ya don't get dressed up to be on TV then what the heck do ya get dressed up for?? 😆
She's dressed like your typical school teacher
@@memeboutte7144 What kinda school did you go to?
: From 56-72 Bill Cullen hosted "The Price is Right" then Bob Barker began hosting in 72 "The New Price is Right" they sorta revamped it and in the 80's they created a nighttime version of the show in which Tom Kenny hosted!
Actually there was a night time version in the 70s with Dennis James as first host, and Bob Barker as second host.
He didn't ask her if she wanted to give it back and look at her last punch
chevy van $10,000 is as high as you can go. She got $10,050 only because of the bonus.
During the Bob Barker era, a guy got $10,500
Damon Jackson I 💕 Tom Kennedy too it didn't matter who hosted the price is right it was fun to watch and still is with drew Carey..
Tom Kennedy host the show between 1985-1986
This night time version of The Price Is Right aired from September 1985 to May 1986. 170 episodes.
