What is sankalpa? In this lesson I talk about what is primary sankalpa in Yoga Nidra. What is your Heart’s Desire? Your true north direction in this life? In Yog Nidra you can think of primary sankalpa as not just an intention but your north star. Your primary sankalpa is a vow or resolve made in the guided meditation of Yoga Nidra. Yoga & Yoga Nidra teacher Ally Boothroyd of Sarovara Yoga explains some of the yoga wisdom behind a Sankalpa and some of her own experience with the evolution of her Primary Sankapla over time.
Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that uses a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation. This yogic sleep technique calms the nervous system and activate the parasympathetic (relaxation, rest & digest) response.

Over the last year, I have deeply connected with my Sankalpa (single word: healing; full expression: My body heals naturally and completely from the inside out). Often times, we get "sold" on the idea that our healing journey is completely external and forget about the powerful healing capabilities of our internal self. Thank you Ally!

    • @SarovaraYoga
      @SarovaraYoga  2 роки тому +8

The internal is so important; the placebo effect - basically what you believe about your healing will manifest. Overlooking the internal, can render the external efforts useless, but together, the synergy is powerful. I love your Sankalpa Tara, thanks for sharing with me :)

I'm so glad with our explanation, it was helpful! 🧘‍♀✨ Creating a sankalpa is a deeply personal and transformative moment. Understanding what it is and your sankalpa´s history helps us recognize what we need to let go of (confusing thoughts or fantasies that distract us) and focus on intentions aligned with our values and purpose. I am in the TSYN Trainning!

I'm glad my story and the resources on this channel have been helpful Martin. If there's one thing I've learned through this it's the consistency is so important, with the Nidra practices, the Sankalpa, the breathing practices to calm the nervous system that I share on this channel were a daily tool for me as well. Great at "re-wiring" the nervous system these "pranayama" practices. You can find some tutorials if you look through my videos tab! I hope you can find more things that are helpful there.

Hello- Yoga Nidra teacher trainee here ❤I am loving the work on finding my Primary Sankalpa. The one word Sankalpa I believe is right for me is Radiance. After the Primary Sankalpa mediation that you guided us through in our training material I have been led to the idea that in order for me to be Radiant I need to accept and fill myself with Radiance. For me It is active, it is interactive, it is communal. It requires connection to thrive. Thank you-going through the training is truly a gift. Namaste

Due to various reasons I struggle to have feeling in my heart chakra (despite this I am a compassionate person). I am having therapy to help me. I have recently introduced a new sankalpa to my practice: I have a warm, open and loving heart. It's relatively early days for this, but I'm excited for the journey and how it will impact on my life and the lives of those around me.

This training is very unique and complement my own nature. I have been looking at so many practices- at times disappointed. As you say, the desire always bring me back to source . Thank you for this video as well as the meditative inquiry in Module 1 Ally. I have a much deeper understanding now. I struggled for quite some time to identify or feel a sankalpa as I was working my way out of burnout- I could not feel anything in my heart. But through practice I have been able to reconnect and it is interesting to experience how my sankalpa is evolving and expanding. I have always felt myself as being very driven to have a positive impact- but the core question of the sankalpa is how I manifest that and now I do believe flourishing- I am flourishing, I create an environment where I and others flourish, is my direction though it will continue to evolve over time I am sure. Namaste.🙏

What’s been resonating with me during yoga nidra has been “I am enough” and also “I am safe to fully let go.” I’m someone who is very goal oriented and tends to push my body and ignore its signals to rest, often because I hope achievements will bring me safety or security. So letting go is powerful. Thank you for your work and teaching!

    Hi Ally,
I'm in module one and just did the sankalpa meditation and oh my God....
I'm so excited that I started to clean the house so I can put the energy to some sort of use, that's what I was doing while listening to this video.
First of: thank you for sharing your story about your sankalpa, I'm kind of anxious about sharing mine so I find it brave and I wonderfull example. It is also almost natural to think: 'yes that's Ally, she spreads peace, she is a wonderfull teacher and the one whose Yoga Nidra practices I listen to for over a year now' and then it is almost logical that you spread such amounts of peace. But my goodness.... You spread a lot of peace, it's amazing. And an inspiring example of what a sankalpa can do.
For the last week I have been working with the sankalpa: I am loving awareness and know the healing power of this.
Now it is: I am one with the true love of the universe and it's healing power. And it is so big and beautifull I barely dare to share. Also... I'm insecure about the right words... a pattern of: 'am I doing this right' So thank you for this gentle video putting me at ease.
While at the same time... I've actually known this sankalpa my whole life. Phrases like 'the love of God' always resonated with me.
    Thank you 🙏💛

Wow Ally, I have a feeling you and I have experienced similar. I don't have asthma but I do have cervical spine instability and I developed PTSD/panic attacks because of how scary of a condition it is. It was like living in a nightmare. In the end my heartrate wouldn't go below 120bpm and I needed a beta blocker. I was so sick. I ended up with very severe chronic fatigue. It felt like I had brain damage. Yoga with Adrienne was playing non-stop on my tv for over a year and it saved me. I learned to face my fears and be there for myself. I experienced ego death and I'm learning how to be human again. I can't stay on my mat forever so I need to learn how to integrate it into my daily life. When I'm around people, I pick up their energy and then I have to recover and recenter. I'm slowly learning. I thinking temperance is a big thing for me. I always want something to be the answer but I have realised that it's not that simple and I'll always need to be fine tuning things and balancing things...

Dear Ally, thank you so much for explaining about Sankulpa's and talking about your own journey. It is so inspiring to know more about you, so thank you for sharing 🙏 I have recently started practicing yoga Nidra and it helps my body and mind to relax. The rotation through the body is so special that I love and want to learn more about yoga Nidra. I am 65, almost 66, and feel like I keep getting stuck in circles. It was very reassuring to hear you talk about that, I do keep coming back to the direction I want to go but that is usually due to difficult situations or physical sickness. This explanation helps me to try to find a Sankulpa that really speaks to my hearts desire. I am so grateful to have discovered yoga Nidra, yours and Kristin's, and am practicing at least once a day. Sometimes a short one in the morning but every day a long one half way through the day. I am dealing with the second time long covid, have me/cfs and fibromyalgia which is quite a challenge at the moment. Your yoga Nidra practices are a true lifesaver for me. I hope one day to be able to help other people with yoga Nidra. Thank you again,
    May you be safe
    May you be healthy
    May you be happy

Thank you for sharing your journey with your Sankalpa. I find this aspect so challenging, not only in the teachings of Yoga Nidra but in other modalities as well, and is one of the main reasons I decided to go on the journey with you on learning deeper about Yoga Nidra in your Teacher Training. I am good with feeling my truth but not so good with wording or explaining my truth with language. And that can be very isolating in our over-analytical world. Looking forward to find what I discover about my Hearts deepest desire and if I can put it in words. For many years my go to phrase has simply been "Love is all there is" and I ask myself "does this (whatever is) feel loving or derived from pure love" and that has been my guiding light or True North. Namaste 🙏

❤ Wow. Thank you for sharing, that was so real. At first I was thinking in terms of career and what I enjoy... I connect others with their creativity or I care for the earth, but when you shared your story and about the deep longing, wow it clicked that Although I love my life, teaching career, partner and friends, due to childhood trauma I don't *really* trust anyone or ever feel truly safe on a deeper level, so although I'm great at making people feel good, and enjoy life, I have trouble connecting on a deeper level due to those suuuper deep grooves or samscaras. So a Sankalpa of something like "I am safe, calm, and trust the flow of life." like you said, or something similar resonates. ❤

At 70, I want to live as the best I can be, and know that I need help in achieving that. Bone health, gentle stretches, movement for the body and quiet time in the mind. Seems like each time I visit your channel I’m presented with something new and I’m just flowing with it. And it takes me places like here! (I’d done your latest from Costa Rica this morning). Great video nice addition to the class lesson. Your story helps remove the intimidation of setting a Sankulpa. The word that comes to me in considering this grace for myself and others. Something to work with

Ally, I can relate fully to where you started and I thank you for sharing how possible it is to find a path out through yoga nidra. I know, for me, it has been a life saver. Your explanation of the evolution of your sankalpa was also helpful! I am looking forward to developing mine, without feeling like I should push to have one tomorrow. Namaskaram.

Thank you for this excellent explanation of Sanculpa. I’d never heard of it. But I love it. I’ve been struggling with chronic illness for years. I’m loving your meditations. I need help and need to be with myself to come up with my own sanculpa. You’ve got me thinking. Blessings to you!

Thank you Ally. This was really helpful. I'm revisiting the primary sankalpa module, whilst looking at the secondary sankalpas. Focusing on the feeling tones within me that I want to cultivate and grow, and being concise with finding words to describe that, helped me with mine. Healing came first. Then wanting to feel peace and at ease. Then I realised if I trusted myself and life and also accepted myself and life just as I am/it is, this helped. 'I am healing, and creating peace, trust and acceptance within myself'. Xx

Namaste Ally, thank you so much for sharing your journey and guiding us to find our Primary Sankalpa ❤️🙏 I’m in the Yoga Nidra Teacher Training and this video is extremely helpful! It’s a great treat! This summer I went to Ladakh and visited a few Buddhist monasteries while trekking in the Himalayas crying and praying to get to understanding my Dharma and the way I could serve my community (which is all sentient beings ☺️). What you’re doing for us is amazing!

Thank you for this explanation. I struggled a little bit with coming up with my own sankalpa, but differentiating primary and secondary really helped. I've meditated and done yoga for years, but i believe you are correct and by defining the positive direction in our lives we can manifest them. Thank you so much for what you do. Namaste♥️🙏

Consistency really really compounds with all of these practices that I share on the channel, the peace and relaxation gradually strengthens in the nervous system and becomes more and more a part of our baseline over time :)

Namaste, Ally! Thank you for sharing your Sankalpa journey! A bunch of fear came up for me thinking about a primary Sankalpa (Oh no, I'm doing the thing I wanted! Run! 😄). I liked how you mentioned being willing to believe in peace being possible. Even though I'm not feeling as free and self loving as I have past month, I know it is within me and do feel it can be possible again. Sharing the evolution of your Sankalpa made me feel more confident in what was already pulling at me. 🙏
