Lady Fermoy did not push Charles and Diana together and always denied doing so when asked. In fact, she actually warned her granddaughter that royal life wouldn’t suit her.

Exactly. I understand why people have pity for Diana, but Charles and Camilla deserve pity too. Everyone involved was pushed into or denied marriages as if they were pawns in a chess game and not real people. That might have worked 100 or 200 years ago, but not in the 1970s and 1980s. Divorce was common and women were more liberated and generally people believed couples should love each other, but these old bitties were still thinking of people as property and lineage. Anyone with sense could see Diana was a terrible choice for Charles, who needed someone to support him, not upstage him, and he couldn’t live up to what she would want in a husband. I feel bad for all of them… yes, they behaved badly within their marriages but it’s pretty clear Charles would have been faithful to Camilla if that relationship would have been supported from the beginning. Diana cheated also, but I think it was mainly out of loneliness and spite, which I can’t really fault her for.
They still had a choice! Even people that marry who they really love find out that one wasn't the right one.

You don’t know what went on behind closed doors like the rest of us. She was on the outs with a lot of people before her death...her Mom, Fergie, her brother, Elton John (until Versace died), and who knows how many others. Who is the common denominator? Unfortunately, like the rest of us, Diana wasn’t perfect and had issues. She was a great ambassador for her country, but she was only human and had flaws like everyone else.
After reading this myself, I fact-checked it and the Earl just won a lawsuit not long ago, because this was a false accusation. Thing is, there are many houses on their estate and Diana wanted the one closest to the road/street, which the police advised was not a good idea (guess because she was constantly hounded by the media)

@@glen7318 exactly, this is the other half of the story, which I did not write, so thank you for complementing my writings! unfortunately I was way too young (almost 7 years old, same age as princess Eugenie and the actress portraying her from season 5 of the crown) when she died so I didn't know that much about her but after watching the crown and reading/watching lots of videos about her I find her so amazing and loveable even despite all her flaws and I really feel bad for her sons and I wish we, the younger generations could have seen a lot more of her and her positive influences on the world but alas she left us way too soon... and as for his brother, of all the videos I saw him talking about her, it's with care, love and respect and I really doubt they'd let him say the eulogy would he been that heartless to her...
None of her siblings bothered about her, especially her brother he would not acomodate her when she needed help, but once she died couldn't wait to get her through the gates of his country pile and cash in!!

I remember Princess Diana asking her brother "Champagne Charlie" if she could have enough land on the Althorp estate (15,000 acres) on which she could build a house. He refused because he thought helicopters would be flying over all of the time. He is on at least his 4th marriage. He is most likely an alcoholic like his father, Princess Diana's father. Charlie is only what is sometimes called "a member of the luck sperm club". Poor Diana's maternal grandmother Lady Fenmore was a lady in waiting to King George VI's wife, Elizabeth, the queen consort. These 2 women got together and decided that beautiful, sweet Diana would be a good wife for Charles because she was so young, innocent and he could keep his affair going with Camilla. Lady Fenmore took up for Diana's father instead of her own daughter Frances, (Diana's mother) when Frances decided to divorce Diana's father. The RF probably thought Camilla was okay to have as a mistress because Camilla's grandmother was the mistress of Charles' great grandfather Edward VII. How sad that poor Princess Margaret was not allowed to marry Wing Commander, WWII hero Peter Townsend whom she desperately loved. Charles was allowed to divorce and remarry a divorced woman. How "common" that the world had to hear that he wished that he could be a tampon inside of her. Princess Anne was allowed to divorce and remarry, and Prince Andrew was allowed to divorce and become a pedophile.

I simply have to agree with Diana's family...there are many signs that Diana was disregarded during her marriage AND after her death...I haven't read "Spare" yet, but I intend to, but I can't help but agree with Harry's words about the GREAT PR machine that surrounds the Royals...if you watch you can see the spin the minute it starts...
Spare is really good
I read Spare some time ago and portions of it were remarkably candid. Tina Brown's book was okay at best. She's English and too pro royal for my comfort--which makes subjectivity inevitable.
You will come to your own conclusions when you read Spare, but I personally came away with a very negative reaction to Harry. I am not a big follower of the royal family, and I know there are pressures with being royal (as well as a whole lot of positives).
When I read a memoir, I ask myself if a person's recollections are objective and honest, or are they biased and trying to tell a story. I felt Spare just revealed the intense jealousy Harry has for his brother. Harry presents himself as superior to William and manages to put down William in every instance. (He also calls him "Willy" which is the American word for male anatomy--a nickname I didn't think was used for William.)
Then he attacks Catherine and displays her as petty and cold--using any small detail he can to elevate Meghan. I even wonder if all of the details in his book really happened. The book did not ring true to me in many instances.
Ever since reading Spare, I have been watching Harry in interviews and reading UA-cam comments about his treatment of horses and women, etc. I think he has a dark, troubled side, and frankly, is not all that bright. None of these dark events get discussed in Spare, of course. Harry does not express any remorse for any of his actions, EVER.
One neuropsychiatrist commented he thinks Harry has one of the Cluster B personality disorders. He thinks Harry has a storyline in his head in which he is the victim (especially of the press and the RF), even though he is superior to everyone else. This is why he has bought into the "Meghan channeling Diana" thing. Harry will skew details so that they fit into this storyline .
This is why he denied the racism claim in the TV interview--claiming it was the press that made that claim, not him. He sees no contradiction because he simply changed the "details" to fit into his storyline of an evil press. He never accepts responsibility for anything. Everything that has happened to him is someone else's fault.
So when you read Spare, look at it with a critical eye. I hope the best for Harry, but he has some serious issues, and it is NOT helpful for him to avoid them.
I also found the book boring because it had pages and pages of unimportant details. However, be sure to read to the very end where the medium tells Harry that Diana saw how Archie broke the Christmas ornament a few days earlier. The most likely way this medium knew these details was if someone in that household had told her. This is a common trick of mediums and is designed to manipulate the "mark." Harry does not even contemplate this possibility.
And BTW, consulting mediums is forbidden in the Bible, so I am pretty sure Diana was not actually speaking to Harry. There could be some demon involved, I guess, but doesn't seem the most likely scenario. As I said, some things in the book raised questions with me.
@@cherfromtn8225 .... don't believe everything in print is 100% truth. Memoirs are written to present carefully worded information in the way the author wants it to be known and won't trigger a libel suit.. Note his mother's book title was: Diana Her True Story.
For decades, Dana has been trashed for allegedly having mental illnesses which varied over time. However, nobody in the know who's qualified to determine this is legally allowed to discuss a patient's condition, so it's rumor, gossip or conjecture that's oft repeated and eventually believed. Now, it's apparently Harry's turn to have his psyche judged and probed by armchair psychiatrists. And, OMG, the vitriol posted about Meghan.
Sibling rivalry is common, we all don't like our various inlaws, and every family has unique dynamics that create marital problems, imperfect children and a need to hide secrets and unsavory private matters. View Harry's book as light reading that happens to contain some truths, but realistically--as simply another form of entertainment, nothing more. All autobios aren't 100% honest, nor are they 100% lies either.

Maybe the sisters have a free pass to William and Harry due to their silence on their sister. It's not like her siblings were entirely kind to Diana when she was alive, but I think the tragedy of her passing caused them to be different and generous.
Charles would not a reminder of Diana at his coronation, but Harry being open about his struggles is enough about a reminder. Kate Middleton wearing her earrings and William showing more of a Diana legacy in following months, is also enough of a reminder.
As for Charles, may the ghost of Diana haunt him forever.

HIs father is Greek/Dutch from the schleswig- Holstein_Sonderburg _ Glucksburg house of oldenburg changed to Mountbatten , they were from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and greece, N. Germany and there is even Russian blood mingled in that lineage. His mother side Queen Elizabeth II parentage is where the Scottish lineage goes back to the first kings of Scotland 42 monarchs in total starting from Kenneth I up to James VI who as i explained became James I and joining of the crowns of England & Scotland to form Great Britain with Wales then later N. My mother died at 36. And today I'm 38. I often stop to think about how she barely had time to live. And I think the same thing about Diana. So young, married to a man who didn't love her. How many years of happiness did she really have? Two, three years? Less? This is very shocking when I think about it.
I doubt very much that the Spencer family would have been where they are today without Royal Patronage, certainly not through sheep farming alone.

Harry wanted to go to Paris with his Dad but he wouldn't let him then as he did not want his son seeing her laid out in the morgue as he had to go and identify Diana and didn't know what to expect
Walking behind the casket of your parent on his or her last journey is a form of respect. I had to endure that too when my dad died in 2002, along with my four younger sisters, the youngest being 8. Sometimes we have to do tough things.
I felt very sorry for the Princes when their mother died. It's a horrible tragedy when you lose a parent so young. William was only 15 then, and I'm just 5 days older than him. My parents also married in 1981. As a coincidence, William and Kate married the same year as my husband and I.
