I've been doing this line of work for 16 years and it's amazes me that how badass this job actually is. I've been doing top notch custom installs customized rims and such. And when the install is done the transformation from stock to upgrade is amazing. It's kinda like doing art but on cars. Fucking love doing this shit and I get paid damn good money to do it

As someone who used to do 120-180 tires a day, you really don't need the assist arm, use your knuckles on the tire and push down and follow the machine, the stiffer the tire the more weight you have to put on it. The heavier and stronger you are the better. Other then that pretty good video, but change the machine to a centered arm one even at a good pace this is really slow.

I work in a tire shop in a store that requires you to have a membership to shop there and sells goods and wholesale prices (wont say just in case....but i think we all know which store i am talking about) . One of the beauties of our machines is instead of having the traditional duck it has a hydraulic hook that can grab and set the bead for you, makes installing run flats and low profiles much easier. Thanks for the video, instead of paying a shop to install my new tires on my new mags i will just do it myself with the knowledge i already have, plus knowing how the manual machines work is even better!

    Great job on your tutorial.
It's been 30 years since I used a near identical machine in Phoenix Arizona at Cobre Tire.
My uncle's brother has a little tire shop here in the boonies of West Virginia, still uses a bubble balancer and plugs flats of mag wheels. (I cringe)
They have some cheap versions of this machine on the internet that would drag my uncle's brother into the 21st century. I would love to help him buy one, along with the machine balancer, just to relive some old times.
But I think he plans to retire in the near future.

I just want to say you're videos are great 👍. Not to be a stickler but the thing u take out of the valve stem is called a Schrader. So when you say you have to take the valve stem out or off ppl will totally get confused. Luckily I just know this from heating n air conditioning and tires themselves but yes the special tool is a Schrader valve remover. So anyone that's confused the actual stem stays put. It's a little thing inside the stem

My question is I have a 1952 caravan and the gap where the tyres goes in is extremely tight and I've ordered 6.00 x 16'' tyres instead of the 6.50 x 16'' that was on the van.
When having the new tyres fitted to the steel rims can I have no air in the tyres n tubes, fit the tyres to the van and then add the air to set the tyre against the rim.

:Doing a simulation of the whole process in vr as my thesis. So the set screw at the top that you had set at ~7:06 is to set the radius of the arm so it won't come any closer to the center of the rim right? But you theoretically could push the arm further away from the rim right?

at 3.48 the knock on the alloy to the machine, that freaked me out. Then worse still at 9.01 when he drops the metal bar onto the alloy, that's just a massive NO NO. Some people look after their cars and wheels and this is NOT how to treat someone's wheels.
Take pics of your wheels ALWAYS BEFORE they get done, so you can prove they've caused any type of damage or scratch to them.
This is a great video in showing you HOW damage can be caused to your wheels but you just DID NOT KNOW where it occurred!! Now you know!!
Listen, it is not an easy job and you need to use a bit of effort however, care people's wheels, they are coming to PAY for damage when you see issues at the timestamps I've shown!
I have a local tyre place to me in London and I only let one guy at my Rims as he's been there for 20 years and he's class, everyone goes there because he's well experienced and cares for people's cars and wheels!!

I will admit some tires are directional, but they usually have an arrow. As for the DOT/date tag, owners preference. I had idiots insist tire had to have DOT tag mounted to the inside, or outside. It probably looks better out of site.
A guy I worked for bought a big lot of tires at a very cheap price, the DOT number showed tires were 10 years old.

Shows how to not damage alloy rims... and yet he slams the duck head down onto it multiple times and drops the lever onto it. He also lets the lever come off the “ducks head” & drop onto the rim when it’s rotating. None of these were necessary to the process, & ironically all of these practices cause damage to the lip of an alloy rim. Otherwise not too bad, but if those were my new shiny rims I’d be pissed.

    • @MrAdkinsAuto
      @MrAdkinsAuto  2 роки тому +1

Thank you for the feedback. The video is intended for my students practicing on rims in class so I can understand the confusion of others watching them. My tire machine mounting head (duck head) has a plastic piece inside it so that the metal mounting head does not actually contact the rim. It's not hitting the rim as bad as it sounds and then the locking lever actually lifts the mounting head up off the rim. As far as the lever goes, when we do a nice rim for real (not class practice), I have a plastic sleeve that does over the bar does the metal does not hit the rim. The problem is they wear out really fast. Great observations and thanks for the comment!
