this is a summary of how to use the wheel balancer in our shop and explanation of the difference between the wheel weights for aluminum rims and steel rims
I'm learning this so I can be a mechanic and I gotta tell you this video is perfect it explained this in a way that I can say I'm confident with my notes I've taken that I could do this thank you
It’s amazing how I learn something completely new from each of these videos I watch. Like they all have different nuggets of info that the previous videos didn’t cover.
Great job on video. Got interview for tire tech job and brushing up on it. Did it back in the early 90`s and haven`t touched the machines since. Thank you! Easy Pezy!
Going to apply for work in a tire repair shop for my 16th birthday. Learning the basics so the introduction wouldn't be too harsh. Thanks a lot for this video mate. Really well explained.
You really explained sir very well.you help me a lot because im planning to build my own small quick service shop here in my own place in Philippines. I have a little experience about repairing ,vulcanize a tire, chagingtire but i know that my expirience is not god enough if i donot know how to use the wheel balancig machine.with your video it truly helps me because of your very informative, and skillfully teachings and explanation.thank you very much and ill always watching your other video..
Very nice in mentioning that the proper tire air pressure is what is noted inside the door area of the passenger vehicle and not what is noted on the tire (which is the max tire pressure). Many, MANY tire shops inflate tires to what is marked on the tire (and also damage wheels by setting them back on the car with a torque wrench that doesn't have a torque limiter); which is a big no-no. On a hot day, an over inflated tire can rupture when hitting a pothole or other debris on the road.
They would have to be a pretty dodgy tire shop if they didnt know what tire pressure to pump the tire to. Besides, theres no tire pressure number on the tire itself, the only numbers on the tire are: 1)Width of tire (which he incorrectly states as being a measurement of the tread when its the measurement from sidewall to sidewall) 2) Aspect ratio (percentage of the profile in relation to the width 3) Construction type 4) Size of rim 5) Load index 6) Speed rating
Very nice demo. My personal take is that any wheel weights on the aluminum rim will eventually damage it. I have never seen an aluminum rim of some age without having been damaged by the rim weights. I use flat sticky weights on all my alloy rims to keep that damage from happening where it can be seen. Another interesting note is that dynamic balancing is mostly not needed. very few tires need it. If I used this tire on my own vehicle I would always do a static balance unless it specifically showed a vibration after balancing. In the old days tires were never dynamically balanced.
Some Aluminums,Meg and Standard rims has three steps while some have four steps as they're grouped and classified as ALU 1-3 and ALUS. Alu 1-3 includes standard rims and some meg rims and requires three steps for balancing while Alus requires four steps because you use the hand measurement two times on Alus, one on the outer rim where you put stick on and on the inner rim where you put stick on. The settings for Alus is a1,ae,d1,& de while in Alu 1-3 the setting is a,b,& d
Great Video thanks for sharing the knowledge. I changed the tires from Winter to summer tires, when i drive i feel like the steering wheel is pulling to the right side. what could the problem be here please ? I really need help with this as its unsafe to drive.
That was a Gr8 bit of information, just always wondered about these machines. What all the digital read outs meant. Anything on Road Force Mattching.??? You gotta Gr8 way of explaining so I’ll plug into your blogs again.!👍
So when they balance the wheel, they balance it to a specific pressure? If you get the vehicle back and realize that your tires are aired up a little above the recommended pressure and set them back to normal, does that throw the balance off?
Does it affect the balance result if you stop the wheel before it actually stops spinning on the machine? I just got my winter tires installed at my local garage. One of the guys who installed 2 of my tires stopped the wheel midway as it was spinning and both times the balance was perfectly at 0. However, the other guy who waited for the wheel to stop spinning on its own had to adjust the balance. So I started wonder if manually stopping the wheel affects the result 🧐
Need your help!! I have this wheel balancer Ultra Pro 1700 but i dont know how to calibrate this wheel balancer... really need a vidéo! thank you so much!
Hi, Kim. For calibrating this machine, you will want to use a 14", 15" or "16 steel wheel and tire for the calibration. Mount the wheel on the machine just like in the video with the spring, cone, and hub nut. Enter in your offset (A), width (W), diameter (D) of the wheel that your using. To enter calibration mode, you need to hold the SHIFT button while pressing the CAL button. CAL 0 will appear on the screen and then press the START button. You will then need to place a 4 OZ wheel weight on the outside of the wheel where it tells you to put the weight on. You want to be as accurate as you can on placing the wheel weight as this will affect how accurate it will balance wheels. Once you have done that, press START again to spin the wheel. Once it is done spinning, it will automatically exit calibration mode and calibration is now complete.
Mr me I Know how to use deferent types of balancing machine so if u still need same one to help u me I can and I have National Certificate in mechanics
Is it normal if a mechanic puts the tire on the balance machine with the old weights still on the wheel? Should they remove the old weights before doing this?
I have the same balancer and the offset measuring arm wont touch the wheel lip on 17" or 18" wheels. Does anyone have advice on if i can modify the arm?
This is far the best tutorial I've seen. Very detailed and great explanation. Pretty munch answered every question I had.
This is how all things should be taught, good job and thank you.

It’s amazing how I learn something completely new from each of these videos I watch. Like they all have different nuggets of info that the previous videos didn’t cover.
Thank you good sir! Very thorough and 1 of the best go overs I've seen on here in relation to using the balancer and installing the weights.

Great video
you did the best explanation !! would be nice if you did the aluminum rim.
You just change the wheel and do the same thing.
You have to use different weights for the aluminum rims as they are generally thicker.

I would like to know why my machine is showing "ERR" when I try to balance a wheel ? Thank you !
Would this machine work for sticky weights?
