Dave's writing and musicianship, Roger's stage presence and phrasing, Saxa's definition of the melody... this will never happen again in our lifetimes, how lucky we were!
So happy that Dave Wakeling brought this song writing and combined the band with Ranking Roger and Saxa for this song. Saxa brought so much of this sound, Roger defined the lyrics that Dave wrote. Nothing like this since!
This is a great song and a great version by The Beat but it's not a Dave Wakeling song - it's a cover of the Derv Gordon (The Equals) song that was released under the name of The Four Gees in 1967. Later also covered by Prince Buster.
Yeah all right They was a rough rider A rough rider Your body saw'n and then jink up besider her Me take off me jeans And she starting to scream Take off me peep And then she says, "Good grief!" What a bly release, awar Say what a bly release, Lord A say me take in me bed And she gwarn like she red Show up an take ah some me beer, brrrrrr, awar Till your body son and you got to come around As I would say, yeah 'Cause there's a whole in the bucket, Dear Liza, Dear Liza 'Cause there's a whole in the bucket, Dear Liza, Dear Liza

Effing awesome! Reminded me how awesome high school was!
Thank you for this rare treat! This song was dedicated to my wife on our honeymoon at fine pub! Love to Ranking Roger. Sweet rest for you.

Dear Liza, Dear Liza
'Cause there's a whole in the bucket,
Dear Liza, Dear Liza
Thanks for the upload.
RIP Roger
Dang, that drummer was getting a workout! And as soon as this song finished, the lead singer announced the next song... I would have quit. 😄
Saw them live 1982 Chicago - non stop energy for 2 hours
Tough Tune. R.i.p Ranking Roger
Fantastic 🙏
love hearing SAXA play
So good!!! Thank you!
I can see why The Beat didn't go with Prince Buster's rocksteady version. Good grief, as they interpret it. Imagine if Maggie had to answer to that.
I'll be honest ..not into this 'London' monotony..dead or alive...fuck me up please!
WTF it got to do with london...
