In the Philippines, the Spanish wore their red-and-yellow cockades on the left side of their straw hats. The Philippine Republican Army copied that and wore their blue-white-and-red cockades on the left side as well. I would request the reenactors on the Spanish side to check and verify that it is correctly worn on the left side and not on the right side as they do. The dark-blue-and-white cotton fabric of the Spanish uniform is called "rayadillo" (for "thin stripes"). It is a combination of the dark-blue used by the Guardia Civil of that era and white to make it cooler in the tropics. The soldiers with green collars and cuffs are "cazadores" (from French "chasseurs") who were better trained units that used light infantry skirmishing and long distance shooting tactics. The standard Spanish method of shooting was volley firing as handed down from the Napoleonic Wars. The Spanish manner of cooling off was to keep the top button of the outer coat buttoned and then to unbutton the rest so that the tucked-in white cotton shirt underneath could breathe and dry off any sweat.
A question, How the katipudan show who is on command, i mean not saying the katipudan or red ribbon in their arm. By chevrons ( and if its that where and colour please) colors or other badge. Before the U.S came, when Tagalo start their freedom Hope you give an answer Thank you
The Sons of Spanish American War Veterans is always looking for member, be it someone who is related to a Spanish American war veteran, or one who is interested in the history!
We also do reenactments like this here in the Philippines.
Been watching videos like these to help further improve my own Spanish-American war impression. Great stuff!
