I am *always* here for Nickel Creek. Also, Chris Thile, with or without Punch Brothers. And Sara Watkins' solo work. Seriously, they are all otherworldly talents.
I saw Nickel Creek last night in Virginia. Twenty years since the original song was recorded. Much more poignant and so much sadder Live. Chris Thile’s Mandolin and older voice with the pauses near the end, actually made me cry. Beautiful, just beautiful. If you can ever see this band Live do it.
Highly recommend Reasons Why, When You Come Back Down, Destination, Spit on a Stranger (Pavement cover), When in Rome, Jealous of the Moon, Speak, Should've Known Better, Helena, Somebody More Like You, Rest of My Life, Can't Complain, This Side, Doubting Thomas.... They only get better.
First time I heard this song I had a hard time focusing on the lyrics as well, but I enjoyed it because it was kinda bouncy and fun sounding. Imagine my distress once I actually heard and understood the story. 😨
If you enjoyed the music check out Alison Krauss and Union Station: The Lucky One, Baby now that I have found you, or When you say nothing at all. Bluegrass has some unique qualities. Love the reaction Nickel Creek is one of my favorites
The origin of Bluegrass came from Irish settlers that settled in the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah Mountains in the US. Lots of violin, banjo and mandolin used.
this song sends chills through me every time i hear it.EDIT: You should check out the song "Go" by Glen Phillips. He's friends w/ Nickel Creek (and vocalist for the band Toad The Wet Sprocket). The song was written during his divorce and it's from the perspective of a Lighthouse. He thought of the lyrics when considering that lighthouses are one of t he only things in the world that cares enough to say "stay away from here".
Great storytelling here, rather like the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, excepting that it's the lighthouse telling its' own tale. Do inanimate objects retain the residue of the lives lived within them? I'm given to flights of fancy at the witching hour...
Teez, hun. The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot is IMPERATIVE for reactors! But no pressure. ;) Like Tris said, it's sort of another perspective from this song. Lighthouse//ship. It's definitely a close your eyes and listen kind of song, or there are lyrics videos. Haunting and amazing. RIP.
Dude, I am a rock / hip hop / edm fan but I have always LOVED this song. You are the only UA-camr reacting to it. You have great taste!

I second that! If there was ever a string band Super Group this would be them.
@@jamesoconnor9027 Chris and Glen Phillips from Toad the Wet Sprocket make their own super group all by themselves. :)
Punch Brothers ❤❤❤❤❤

I'm from Ireland originally and this has that same guitar and storytelling vibe.
