How to Ombré Dye a Shirt
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- This is a tutorial showing how to ombre dye/dip dye a shirt, with a single color of dye.
Cotton is the best material for this project. The shirt shown in this video was 95% rayon, 5% spandex - as you can see it will still work, but the color won't be as intense as it would've been with cotton.
For the dye, I used RIT concentrated powder dye in navy blue. You can find it here: amzn.to/2NbZJam (affiliate)

Omg the best ombré shirt I ever seen it so awesome I want to make it but I don't know what kind of paint should I use
you mean dye?
+slimegirl Thank you so much! I used RIT dye, but it doesn't have to be the same one :)
DuhitsZoe XD paint???
Sarah Johnson - Pugdemonium does food dye work? XD
Not a Kawwai Person but a weeaboo
I don't think so cause when you get food colouring in your clothes and if you wash it, the food colouring is not there anymore 😂
The results on this were more subtle than using bottles. Really nice job.
Thank you so much to the person who translated this video into Spanish! I really appreciate that you took time to do that!
That is one delightful song.
It's "Already There" by Josh Woodward :)

Thank you! I made my own ombre shirt today and it comes out quite amazing.
This also works with chlorine bleach
add a little more dye
That's pretty much the theme of the video!
If anyone is interested in ombre dyeing shoes, I have a new video showing how to do that here: ua-cam.com/video/gHYIQnD4rCA/v-deo.html and thank you for the support!
Sarah J (Pugdemonium) what if we want to do 2 colors on a shirt?
Sarah Johnson - Pugdemonium can you use acrylic paint?

*Dye spills* Song: I'm already everywhere!
Best tutorial I seen so far on ombre dying
thanks so much! mine didn’t turn out as well as yours because the gloves i was wearing were covered in dye and i tried to hold up the part of the t-shirt so it went a bit messy but i am so grateful for this amazing tutorial xx
pretty! I love the final result.. I try to make my own ombre dress for my wedding..hope it goes well... 😃
Thank you very much! I hope dyeing your dress went well, too! I bet it turned out beautiful 😃
it’s been 6 years, how’d it go?
It’s been almost 7 years, how is your dress doing?
“Helper” Dog really drove this video home for me :)
This kind of shirt is good for going to a Coachella Themed Party ..... Thanks , More DIY's to come 👍💙
Thank you so much for this video \(◡̈)/♥︎
I dyed a hoodie in Denim Blue Rit dye following your instructions and it turned out beautiful!
Here are some tips:
1) If you’re using powdered dye, mix it thoroughly! I didn’t and got red dots. Thankfully they washed away when rinsing.
2) Rinsing takes up more water and effort than you think. The instructions said to start rinsing with hot water and then gradually use cooler water as the water ran clearer - but the water never ran clear. Rinsed the hoodie at least ten times but it was still giving blue water lol. Maybe I used too much dye. (Btw didn’t wait for 24 hours before rinsing.)
3) When pulling the clothing up and down, be careful so it doesn’t splash. I got blotches because of my splashing geh
4) You won’t regret it!!!! Bought a brand new hoodie just for this and it came out great :)
hey there! maybe it didn't ran clear bc u skipped the 24 hours leaving the hoodie sit and then rinse? or is it always like that, it'll keep losing color?
@Starboy Trini I can't seem to reply to your comment, but it's RIT powder dye in the color Navy Blue. I've also linked it in the description :)
Thank you thank you!!! The best tutorial I've seen till now!!♡♡♡
Great tutorial! Best one I've found online. Thanks so much!!
it's so pretty!! but it takes a lot of time.. but IT LOOKS FUN TO DO!!
I hope it works bc I'm using this for a talent show
El mejor video que he visto!! El resultado es espectacular!!! Gracias!
How long did the process take you? I plan to do this for a wedding dress
How are you Doin? i will not doing that, image this goes wrong, will ve a mess in your dress 😱
How are you Doin? It took me about an hour, but the time will vary from how big the object your tie dying is.
How are you Doin? did you do it yet? how did it turn out?
Oh my gosh I’m going to do the same thing! How did yours turn out?
Does it have to be the powder dye? or can it be just regular tie dye in the bottle? 😊
+Grace Swygert Nope - doesn't have to be powder dye. Concentrated liquid dye should actually work better, because the powder can be a bit messy 😊
Sarah Johnson - Pugdemonium
I love you profile pic. and I have a Pug named Sarah
Thanks so much! Pugs are the best 😊
Are you talking about food coloring? Because that WILL come off on your skin🗽👀
@@audrealambert9583 no they are talking about actual liquid dye dude.... Food coloring is not dye
I've done it!!! And totally love it! Thank you so much
is it works for materials such like socks, legging, etc? thank you!
+Vinna Audy Yes, it should work for those too! The color/brightness may change a bit depending on the type of fabric, though :)
Damn that's ACTALLY really pretty
puppy did a good job thank u needed this to clor a dress : )
He's a good helper :) You're very welcome!
Used this idea on a moschino shirt now it's five times cuter ! 🙌🏻

You've got such a cute helper 😍

Really sweat video. Thanks for posting!

Beautiful video Sarah. Love your videos... It worked so well for me. Thnx
+merlin juliet Thank you for your kind words!! So glad to hear it worked for you! You're very welcome!
wooow that is soooo amazing!! too bad i dont know were to find fabric dye in my country
great job! beautiful music! and I love that dog ☺🐶
Thank you so much!! He's a good helper! 🐶
this is so cool!!! I think I'll do this one day if I have the time
Wow its beautiful ! Can I use Acrylic Paint ?
Hey, great tutorial! I was wondering, how did you let the shirt sit for 24 hours? Did you hang it to dry or lay it flat on a surface? :>
+YumiKoyuki Hi! Thank you! I kept it on the hanger and hung it up to dry. This way, the dye will travel towards the darker end of the shirt. Thanks for asking, I should have mentioned that!
It's awesome! gonna try this later, i hope it works! 👍👍
Omg love this video and song 😘
I did this on a plaid shirt and it turned out great!!! Just subscribed. Great tutorial :)
~JuniperGinger
Thanks so much, and thank you for subscribing!! Glad to hear it worked for you! An ombre plaid shirt sounds very cool :)
JuniperGinger did the dye cover the plaid, so that you couldn't see the plaid anymore?
Loved that color...
I will try that thats my christhmas gift to my mom
Great, but what type of colour u use???
can you use food coloring.
I decided to make 2D's Pink Bunny Says Shoot To Ill and the ombré so far is great, thank you!!!
I really recommend Gorillaz if you don't know who 2D is
This is ingenious using the hanger so you don’t have to touch it
Wow. This is great 👍🏼
Its awesome .What will we do in this 24 hours? Soak in the sun?
Thank you! It doesn't really matter, just let it sit undisturbed for the 24 hours, and then rinse it out :)
Thanks a lot for this tutorial !!! Is there any alternative for soda ash ?And how long should we dip the cloth in dye?
Got two brand new white tanks, in that modal fabric, and I am doing this, this weekend!!!!! Hit me with your color ideas!!! I imagine I could dip them in the lighter color first and have a second tank with a darker color for the uppermost portion?
Can I use this to dye a shirt from the bottom to the top?????
Yes, you can! On this particular shirt I just thought it would work better on the top.
Thanks a lot!!! Especially what I needed!
#the shirt is litterally goals👑👑
Thanks so much!! 😊
Thanks for the tutorial
Thank you so much
My fav color😯💕❤️
I love the color ,what brand of dye did you use and what is the code or name of that tone of blue? please
Thank you! It is Rit dye (powder form) in the color navy :)
omg that's perfect 😍 I have a white tshirt that's too big for me but I'm afraid I'll ruin that tshirt if I dye it XD
it's so awesome!!
Thank you so much!!
Awww.. cute dog 🐕
Lol to the helper 😃
+Lazybabyz 😀
I really wish I could do this cause I have a tank top but I don't have dye
Nice!
Natural lighting outside and people keep saying it's a carpet >
Oh I really loved the video
Glad to hear that! Thank you!
Shouldn’t you dye several shirts at a time since you are using so much water and constantly adding more dye?
this is really good but I would do it so the darker part is at the bottom
Thanks, you could definitely do it that way, too!
How hot is the water?
I love it! did the shirt look more blue or lilac in real life? its hard to tell!:)
Thank you! :) It looks more purple than blue in real life, even though the dye was technically navy blue.
Awesome! I just ordered a purple rit dye off of amazon & I wanted to turn my top "lilac" like a light purple... would I only use a little bit of dye to get a light purple colour? :)
Yes, I would try using as little dye as possible to get a lighter, lilac color. You can always add more dye and dip it again if it isn't dark enough, and the type of material the shirt is made out of will affect how the color looks. Good luck, that sounds pretty! :)
Thank you very much :)!!
Thanks a lot. This is so help.
+Rizki Dewi You're very welcome! Glad to hear it is helpful!
How do you get it to be dark blue at the top? and the video was much help.
Jalon Boyd did you even watch the video?
beautiful ❤
How long do I swish the shirt up and down each time? Also, does it matter if I have powder dye or liquid dye?
Are these safe to put in the washing machine without losing color?
If I also want to wrinkle my fabric should I do this before
it. look so beautiful
Thank you!!
Wow, this is so cool thanks!!
+CrogBear Thanks so much!!
Would this work on a sweater or would it ruin it....? Like would it still be soft?
Hi thanks for this great tutorial! I dyed some fabric for a cosplay im doing! just one question, do you know if is possible to iron it afterwards? Im just being super cautious haha
Thanks for watching! Ironing it should be fine, if anything the heat should actually help set the dye. The only concern I'd see with ironing it would be if you're using a fabric that doesn't take ironing well, but if it's cotton it'll be just fine. :)
It's very cool !!
Hi. What happend when you washed the T-shirt???? Still have the colors??
Cool ombré ifect
Planning on doing this...🤔
hello my dear i really loved your video , i was wondering if this only work with that paint for clothes or the normal paint works too ?
Please could you suggest me what to use for colour fixing (colour should not leak and mix with other clothes)
if i do this for 15 shirts, can i wash them all together or should i do them seperately?
1:43 The shirts dancing!
I love it...
Glad to hear that! Thanks!
Great Tutorial! Btw I am planning on dip dyeing my prom dress a little bit, I was wondering if it works if the fabric is already a dark color so I can brighten it up by the end (dark blue which turns into purple, or just lighter blue) and also what kind of materials does it work on?
Did you use black or purple dye? Also, about how long was each dip cycle, or did you just eyeball it?
Great video! Thanks a ton!
+Robert Ipach Thank you! I used Rit navy blue dye - after it dried, it ended up looking more purple. For the dip cycles, I did just eyeball it. As soon as there was a definite difference in color to the level above, I moved on to the next level. The difference in color between each level will be more subtle when the shirt is dry.
Very nice
After you do this do you wash the shirt? Will it come off because that will not be nice! Someone tell me!
+Jorge Angamarca It shouldn't come out, just be sure to follow the instructions on the dye you're using. I used Rit dye and all I had to do was rinse the shirt with hot water, then wash it, and it hasn't come off :)
interesting idea.👍😍
I like your helper👩
Thank you! He’s a good helper 😊
That color is awesome, is this a dark blue or blue violet or something?
The dye was called navy blue, but it came out looking more violet!
hi! this is a great tutorial video, help me a lot. Btw do you have any tips for using a t-shirt, especially the color won't blend perfectly in arm part because of folds I think. Thanks
Hi! Thank you very much! I've been trying to figure out a solution for this. You could try dyeing the other end of the shirt (dye the bottom instead of the top) so there wouldn't be as much dye in the arm area.
What do you do with the excess water just curious
