YES! Benny himself, said Jackie would punch him HARD like a real fight. Bruises would occur and they'd have to wait days for Benny's bruises to heal. They both wanted action movies to change forever, and they set the standard and has never been reached. Best fight scene on screen ever.

Benny said they beat the crap out of each other and it was awesome ( and this sounds odd but he stated that Jackie "hit him with so much love" & that he had a loving spirit. ... um..is this a marshal arts thing?)so much so that he came back for round two in Dragons Forever?...after WOM finished filming & coming back from Spain, he said Jackie had everything going for him that he did and truly believed that Jackie was an "incredible athlete" could have been a champion fighter if he'd ever competed.

The film is called Wheels On Meals because of a superstition over titles starting with M, so they flipped the words round.
One of Jackie's important rules is being able to see the face, hence the clinch being "weak". Two fighters too close together means the audience can't see clearly what's going on, it's just a mash of body parts. This is physical story telling. We can see Benny has hold of Jackie, there's space so that we can see Benny's knee coming toward his head, and that same space lets us see Jackie's hands blocking it. In terms of "screen fighting", this is perfection.
Jackie did a documentary called My Stunts which showed his philosophy behind fight scenes, and the unbelievably obsessive level of perfection that he works to. It'll help you to realise how and why he's one of the best.
5:00 That flipping with the wrist is standard Hapkido or catch wrestling technique, and used by law enforcement. It's not that it gives enough power or momentum to move the whole body, but if you're on the receiving end then you either allow yourself to flip with it or your wrist makes an unpleasant crunching sound and you have to start holding your cutlery the other way round.
8:45 Sneaky tribute to Bruce vs Chuck Norris in the Colosseum.
13:00 You can't pull punches when filming at high speed, so Benny just stuffed a load of cotton wool in his cheek and Jackie punched him for real.
Fun story: During production Jackie challenged Benny to a legit kickboxing match once it was completed. Throughout filming, Benny would go pretty heavy to let Jackie know what he was in for, but he wouldn't back down and still insisted they fight for real. Jackie's stunt team were going mad, Benny's team were going mad, Jackie was taking all these hard kicks and punches to show he could take it and Benny's still trying to persuade him to pull out.
When they finally finished, Benny asked when and where they were going to have the match. Jackie tells him he had no intention of ever fighting him because Benny would just murder him. He just wanted everyone working at maximum intensity to make the film as good as possible.

I think there was another movie with Jackie chan where someone wanted a realistic punch so they had themselves get punched for real but accidentally got Knocked Out for real haha. I’m going to try to find it! It reminds me of that it’s so funny, but shows how much the actors care about the production!

6:26 the pausing was realistic because they completely stopped fighting (and both were beat up so it was a natural rest) and were reassessing each other. none of them were in the middle of exchanging. It's more like when u land a good hit and the bell rings (or ref breaks you up), then you look at them to assess their condition. They've been swinging and kicking all out nonstop, plus Jackie grabbed a chair so it was a realistic time to pause the fight there. The stamina they were expending was great and the intensity was high. If Jackie didn't grab a chair, maybe Benny would have enough stamina to rush him on the ground. But the chair would've been enough to make Benny pause. I felt it was one of the best way they could've paused the fight.

Benny was no ordinary fighter so called "back in the day." At the time of filming, he had 7 black belts in 7 different disciplines(Kungfu forms included), and was undefeated. He challenged anyone under any form who wanted to fight. Samo Hung who directed the fight scene told Jackie not to provoke Benny because he could easily whip his ass. Benny himself had to slow down on several takes so the camera can keep up, because he was so fast. And the fight was real. The "blowing out candles" part was actually accidental but was kept in the final cut because it was so cool. " Inside Kungfu" magazine in the early 80s named this the best fight scene of the decade.

He also worked to make xtra money as a bouncer in several of the seedier clubs in some of the worst areas in Hong Kong when he went back. While still only 18 and hanging out with older, life hardened stuntmen, he fell into some bad habits including drinking, gambling , and questionable female companionship until at one point, he came to the realization that this was no way to live and night crawling through clubs and fighting with unruly patrons was not the way to realize his dreams. @@copium-compound22

First of all thank you for picking this version. There's a couple of different versions with different dubbing and music. I like the music to this one better.
Anyways🙂. This is widely considered to be one of the greatest fights in martial arts movie history. One list, can't remember who it was by had it 4th all-time!
Couple of tidbits. It's called "Wheels on Meals" because the studio that produced the movie had two previous movies that titles started with M's that totally bombed. So they switched the title of the movie to avoid it starting with M 😄
The kicking out of the candles was assisted by the crew in the final version of the movie. Benny actually did kick them out during a previous filming session. But they wanted him to do it multiple times but Benny said if he does it too many times he's going to rip a muscle in his leg.
Great fight scene and great breakdown. I'm glad you enjoyed this fight. Forgive my rambling. Keep up the good work 👍

@@BruiseLeeReact What Vladimir is referring to is an alternative soundtrack that _Wheels on Meals_ had on some previous international English dubs; the music you’re hearing here is what is in the original Hong Kong version.
A few years ago my country (the UK) got a Blu-Ray release courtesy of Eureka! Entertainment that contained a few different versions of the film, including the classic English dub with that aforementioned alternative soundtrack. However, even better still, for those who are not keen on watching dubbed versions and prefer to watch in the original language with subtitles, Eureka! had additional permission within this release to include a new version of _Wheels on Meals_ that used the spoken dialogue from the original Cantonese-language release, but instead of the original’s music it had that alternative soundtrack.

Watched several reviews of this fight lately, and every single one of them uses the crappy English-dub version of the film.
Please -- reviewers -- watch the original Cantonese version with English subs, it isn't that difficult to locate.

If you mean about something like UFC, I would say you have the right of it! What I mean is that although they have a lot of real elements here and its SO well shot and well done, you're absolutely right that REAL fights are just.. Dirtier. Sloppier so to speak. Way way more chaotic. You practice a perfect kick in training, but you're always throwing imperfect things in fights because there's a dynamic of luck, placement, and a whole other human with their own thoughts haha. Things that happen are rarely Ideal in real combat or real pro fights! Thanks for tuning in, hope to see you at the next video if you aren't already subscribed!

The main thing is our ability to take a punch. If we could take a beating like that real fights would be like this
