From interview with Benny 'the Jet' Urquidez - • Bruce Willow Podcast #...
I met Jackie and he is such a nice guy. I asked for an autograph and my pen didn't work. So Jackie said to his bodyguard to wait and for my friend to get another pen. As we were in Queensway London people started to recognise it was Jackie and gather. His bodyguard kept hounding him to leave and he turned and said "No waiting!" Really quite determine to give me an autograph. Legend of a man.
What was so adorable about that was that Jackie had a bodyguard :D
@@rayniac211 bodyguards avoid lawsuits
@@rayniac211 Jackie was the bodyguards body guard!
The rest of the story was Jackie had to leave early and later when the guy went to take a bath he read "Love Jackie :)" on his forehead
In Jackie's autobiography, he tells a story of him at the airport. He met an elderly man in his 80's who wanted an autograph, Jackie was in a hurry and said "Sorry, next time". The old man replied "There might not be a next time". While sitting in the plane, those words bothered Jackie so much that he went back into the terminal and looked for that old man to give him an autograph. It's in his book "Never Grow Up".
The fight scene in Meals on Wheels still today is the best martial art fight scene in cinema.
It's Wheels on Meals...
Not only was Benny a real fighter, he picked up the art quickly and looked fantastic in movies too. Sadly very underused, he had the crazy, badass look and the charisma, and the fact that he was a real kickboxer added to his aura.
Benny doesn't even swear. He seems like the nicest guy ever, and it's a pleasure listening to him telling these stories, smiling, with a contagious happiness and excitement.
There you have it. a kickboksing legend saying that jackie could have been a champion. What more do you need to hear
yea, ppl should've been able to tell just by watching Jackie's physical exercises and timing and reaction. Jackie was way fitter than champions we see today. Ppl just think he can't react to punches. Jackie's been in street fights, sparring, and choreographed fight scenes. those are actually plenty to train punch reaction. They think Jackie will react like a new guy at the gym who never sparred? they think they know fighting but they are clueless about fighting. glad benny proved them wrong.
Could have been means he is NOT… people gotta understand jackie is an actor, not a real fighter. Now if he trains hard to be a fighter then maybe, just like benny said
Well said Bro.! JACKIE CHAN'S MARTIAL ART ISN'T FAKE! But the SMARTEST GUYS in every WING CHUN school meant THIS! WC ISN'T the only GUNG FU and MARTIAL ARTS STYLE! JACKIE ISN'T ONLY AN ACTOR- OF COURSE HE MASTERS MARTIAL ARTS!!!
Sorry, I won't buy that.. Jackie isn't a real martial artist, he's physically fit and strong but only for stunt. He's a stuntman.
@@hendywijaya3213 Jackie has the black belt and the 6th grade of hapkido, masters TKW, Gung Fu styles like Pak Mei, and so on....- That's not enough 4 U 2 B a "Martial artist"?
I honestly REALLY enjoyed this interview. I say that because you let Benny actually do most of the talking and you’re not interrupting him every few seconds like a lot of interviewers do. THANK YOU FOR LETTING HIM TALK!!! It was great hearing his side of this legendary fight scene. I hope to meet Benny one day. It would be a great experience.
THAT FIGHT SCENE… When I was a kid… I was like “…… …Man… iREALLY think these dudes are HITTING and landing these kicks FOR REAL……” and it’s cool to hear that they actually were. Lol
I second this, was great and rare to see someone actually let the man talk free flow.
..& more people need to recognise this fight scene as one of the greatest (if not THE greatest, imo) fight scenes in cinematic history.
Benny a true noble warrior
Me too. This was a great interview
yes
Glad those two got along so well.
Watching the shaky cam, dark room fight with 0.5 second cuts and CGI, you learn to appreciate the Hong Kong classics all the more. No director or stuntman has ever come close to emulating a shred of all these classic movies. Thank you Jackie Chan for giving us all a wonderful childhood.
I hate that modern movie technique (shaky cam + .5 second cuts) for violent scenes. Always seemed so cheap.
John Wick and Ip Man
@@pilummurialis6490 ip man is of the genre atleast. John wick is probably the best of the west for it but still incomparable to prime jackie chan.
So interesting to hear it all from the legend, the man himself, Benny The JET!! A true master man you can see the pain shoot through Jackies arm and body when The Jet Kicked him in his forearm. Instantly stop Jackie in his tracks. It's a good thing Benny wasn't going full power cuz he would have easily broken his forearm right there at 5:48. Still look like it could have been a hairline fracture at least. You know Jackie felt that in the morning. A good strong kick made Jackies forearm wobble like jelly. Mucho Massive respect to The Jet a true warrior,!!
Westerners: Why do the hits look so real?!
HK: Because they were real.
Especially this fight scene, Benny is a real fighter, he wasn’t good at pulling movie punches at least at this point of his acting career. So Samo and jackie just opt the punches be real.
@@heic1971😮😮😮😮
The movies that Sammo Hung and Jackie did together were always epic. Throw Benny the Jet in and you are guaranteed a banger.
@@MYJAPANPOV Definitely a legend. When I learned he was the one that flipped over the monks for Bruce in Enter the Dragon I was instantly a fan lol.
Don't forget Yuen Biao.
Still my favourite fight scene of all time. Excellent interview, I was laughing when Benny realised that Jackie was just joking when he wanted to fight him 🤣
would love it if Conor Mac and Diaz started their next fight shit talk like this
Same. Best fight scene ever
Excellent interview, Benny is the man, he talks so sincerely and so happy, you can feel the excitement he irradiates when remember all that stuff.
so many stupid people who don't understand potential. they say "jackie is not a fighter, he would get destroyed" then an undefeated full contact kickboxing champion here who also beat an undefeated thai boxing champion is flat out telling you Jackie Chan could have easily been not only a professional fighter but an INCREDIBLE CHAMPION. thank you Benny
I totally agree but Benny actually said credible champion, not incredible
@@UGOkilleth 11:11
@@ThepurposeofTime well I'll be damned.
Yeah a lot of these martial arts stars are really well conditioned, flexible and learn quickly. They just need to practice fighting a bit and they should be pretty good.
Worked with JC twice and I disagree. Did JC had the physical abilities? Yes. Did he had the mentality? Big no. Benny is being nice to him coz JC helped him back in days. And while we are at it, JC has been using stunt double since forever ( only on minor stunts when he was younger). When I was working with him his stunt double was In-seop Lee ( aka Mr Lee), and he was shooting stuff all the time while JC was busy chasing girls on set.
Guaranteed one of or the best fight scene in live action films.
Saw Wheels on Meals for the first time about 30 years ago, and the fight scene between Jacki and Benni arguably was the best fight scene I have ever seen. That notion still holds true to this day. Love and respect to sensei Benny Urquidez and Jacki Chan.
When hollywood is doing fight scenes, they need to speed it up later to make it look dynamic, when hongkong/jackie doing fightscenes, you need to slow it down, that it barely looks humanly possible. Benny is an incredible human being, i adore him very much!
Whenever I hear Benny the Jet talk, I always feel a strong aura emanating from him. It’s almost like he’s a philosophical monk.
Can’t agree more
The big Buddha painting in back doesn't help either lolol
Definitely one if not the best rival fighter in his movies. The first time I saw the fight I was just reacting to every impact and move. A gem of a movie. The sacrifice both Benny and Jackie made was well worth it.
So basically, Jackie realised Benny was a real fighter, not afraid to remove barriers and get his hands dirty. Smart enough to remember the choreography, strong enough to keep going for hours and tough enough to give back what he gets. I imagine thats how you'd have to impress Jackie if you wanted to do a scene with him and earn his complete respect.
Do it, show him you can do it and give back what you get. That way he knows you're legit and will treat you like a brother 👍
I not even kidding but it was one of the most beautiful fight in the history of the action movies, that man in his pride was a animal.
When I was very young, I wanted to be a fight choreographer and it was this fight scene from Meals on Wheels that motivated me the most. To this day, I still consider it one of the best fight scenes in the history of film. It was such a game changer back then.
Mad respect to Benny for taking Jackie's punches and jobbing for him on the film. This was the most gritty and bloody real fight Jackie ever had in his movies since it's really full contact.
All of Jackie's movies from the 70s/80s were full contact.
I love interviews like this where the person speaking is almost like a little kid going off about their favorite subjects like you can tell Benny is just on cloud 9 reliving filming with Jackie and the mutual respect they share. Killer interview for sure
My words😉👍
That Meals on Wheels fight ranks as the greatest alongside Bruce and Chuck. That shot with the table scraping back as they fought was for me the height of cinematic fight chroeography! So nice to finally see Jet and have him break down this iconic scene! Thank you!
My all time favorite of Jacky Chan’s
And immediately after the table push, the roundhouse kick blowing out the candles just ramps it up.
Wheels on meals.
Wheels on Meals.....
I’m a big fan of the Bruce and Chuck fight. But Jackie vs Benny tops it for me no question. It’s more entertaining.
What's incredible about Benny The Jet Urquidez, is that he's without any shadow or inkling of doubt, an phenomenal fighter. Period!!!
Benny is a legend and his timing in a the ring was supernatural. 😎🙏🐉🥊📼
Benny was one of the most underrated martial artists of cinema. He should have been in more films.👍
benny's fight on wheels on meals is one of the best in cinema period! Even today it's still one of the best.
Man. The movie is 38 years ago. Wasn't even born yet but that movie was awesome when I fist saw it in the late 90's
So funny.. I expected him to say the he didn't blow out the candles with his leg. Because we tried it in our movie and we couldn't manage it!! Shows how much power Urquidez has in his kicks!
I also thought it was fake. Boy is he powerful!
if u guys thought it was impossible, what does it tell us that Jackie and his team expected it? im gonna guess some of them can do it.
Benny is a Legend. His fights with Jackie made me fall in love with those movies. They were the best I ever saw.
This fight scenes with Jackie and Jet will go down in Martial Arts history as one of the best ever!! I remember seeing these movies in Los Angeles at a Chinese movie theater on Valley Blvd and Garfield! I remember just getting my mind blown away at the choreography and fight scenes!! It was truly legendary and epic!!
What a legend, so humble, very few of the best
So nice to hear a champion have only good things to say about another champion. That was a ray of sun in a dark world! What a great guy. The Jet. Those were the days!
Benny for as much of a machine he is, he's so respectful to others, & his outlook on life is why he has prospered on so many levels in his life.
Be like Benny!
A TRUE CHAMPION talks about the other TRUE CHAMPION!!! Thanx for the upload!!!
What a nice guy..... I think they made something special with that fight..
Hands down one of the best fight scenes in cinema history. They two are real warriors, artists, and practitioners.
Definitely up there with Bruce and Chuck
Benny, and we thank you for bringing this type of incredible fight scene. It never gets old. Bless you brother.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 One of the best fighting sequences ever!!!
Love the scenes between Benny and Jackie and the interview with Benny......he can tell with enthousiasme wich makes me more respect for Benny. Very humble person🙌🏽
Damn that fight scene is AMAZING... Thanks for this interview Benny is a god damn champion!
Ohhh thank for this interview! Always wanted to hear Benny talk about his experience on the set with JC. Benny is a legend!
This is the best interview ever. Thank you so much for letting him talk. You are a great interviewer!
Man i never get tired of listening to Sensei Benny especially about this particular movie, you asked some great questions and the footage that you have shared here, I have never seen it before!! Thanks a million for doing this!!!
Sounds like such an excellent experience. Benny and Jackie might have been unable to speak clearly to one another but the language of martial arts is universal. If Benny's story is accurate it really seems like two consummate professionals came together to create something amazing and UNIQUE. They did everything themselves instead of taking all their cues from the same choreographer that works with the exact same style across a bunch of different movies. What an amazing interview.
Wheels on meals is EASILY MY FAVORITE JACKIE CHAN MOVIE OF ALL TIME!! What Benny the jet did for that movie was clear, night and day. The fight scenes were so different and amazing, on another level from the already entertaining fight scenes he had been doing in his movies.
Mu respects to Benny in how he recognize Jackie as a champion after his experience working with him
What you said at 12:23 gave ME goosebumps because I never thought i would meet a person that has exactly the same opinion about this fight scene like me.
Awesome!!! Great interview! Love Jackie and Benny!👍
That's a hell of a thing to do for a living.
I thought they were putting makeup on him to make him look beat up as the fight goes along, not using it to hide how beat up he actually was. Great interview, thanks.
Meals on Wheels has one of the best martial arts fight sequences of all the time!!
Wheels on Meals fight scene is fucking legendarily epic. The soundtrack was so fitting too. I’ll never forget that scene ever!
I remember being in this miracle-awe while watching the fight between jacky and Benny in Dragons forever!!
Thank you this wonderful interview 👍👍👍! I ran into him at a Starbucks in my neighborhood a decade ago and had the pleasure to talk to him. He is a really cool guy. Both of these two fight scenes he had with Jackie are my favorites in all of JC's movies 😃
Absolutly the best movie fight ever. ❤
Wow! This is the best interview with a martial artist I've ever seen. What a great experience it must have been for anyone involved in the making of that movie.
best fight ever.. that scene big inspiration for me.. so real!..
Salute & Respect ro both Legends. Definitely one of the best fights scenes ever and Ive seen hundreds.
Excellent interview. I learned so much just about film making, motivation, and dedication. Watching this I always wondered about continuity. Yup they had to wait for the swelling to go down before they can re-shoot. I think that's why they got along so well. Recovery from accidents is what Jackie does in his spare time, then he does it again. They are both a special breed.
Meals on Wheels. Probably, one of the best martial art fighting sequences in action flicks. In movie sets as well as in the dojos, you have to see blood and bruises to seriously practice your art.
Amazing. Thank you for that. Agreed with you. My favorite fight scene of all time. Both legends.
Thanks, Benny & Jackie wonderful fight scene. 👏
love and respect Benny
wheels on meal is an excellent movie
Benny, jackie, sammo, yuan biao, and Laura(the beautiful Sylvia)
good actors and fighters
Benny for me is got all skills to do real fights as well as Jackie.. love them both 👍
this was awesome, i remember that scene like yesterday. Thank you for the interview
BENNY 'THE JET' URQUIDEZ you are amazing man
This is GOLD! What a great interview!
Straight up one of the best fight scenes ever. Saw it as a kid still watch it all the time.
Jackie chan in a nutshell 👇
Jakies stunt team: You did it too hard! 👿
Jackie: Do it again! 🤩
The audience: 😳
😂😂😂
Best fight scene in cinema, hands down full stop
Hero met hero . Wheels on meals was and is still a great movie with 2 incredible fighters.
This was such a great movie and the fights are all-time great. Thank you Benny for giving us this great work of art
Jackie is the “musician” in martial art choreography. You can feel the rhythms, the pace and the dynamic in all his stunts and fights.
Sammo is the magician !
Sammo disappears the sandwiches.
Choriagraphy is outstanding.
the golden era...
both Jack and Benny are Icons
Really appreciate this podcast.
Great interview. I loved their fight scenes, IMHO two of the best ever.
Classic fight scene, Benny the Jet is a legend
Wonderful interview.
You obviously know the movies, and he seems so happy to talk about them
The man, the legend. Untouchable Benny the Jet Urquidez. My childhood hero. I bow to the legend
What a great interview. Im new to this fight but i cant stop re-watching it.
This is a brilliant interview! And yup, Best Fight Scene ever!!!
People should really show some love to Sensei Benny's UA-cam channel (before we lose him).
Also, yes, this fight was one of the best on-screen, 'real', awesome displays of athletics, martial arts, drama, characterization, acting, and choreography. Only the "Drunken Master" fight with Ken Loh really rivals it (in a completely different way).
🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨
I watched every jacky chan movies when I was small, and you are one of the most remarkable opponents of jacky chan.
👍👍👍👍
Legends of the ring and screens :) A wonderfully insightful interview :)
Benny-your a class act! Great to hear about this event.
I still remember Benny from back in the day.
Loved watching him disassemble opponents with leg attacks.
He was awesome.
They respect each other. Done.
So much RESPECT to Benny, best fight scene ever
he is such an wise man sooo highly intelect
So legendary thanks 4 this one 🙏 great interview
I watched this movie everyday for weeks.
Wonderful interview. 👍🏻
Benny is a legend like jacky
Someone doing dishes in the background 🍽️ lol but yea, 80's movies like this are unmatched in originality, charisma, flavor and immersiveness. I'm loving the nostalgia 😌
This guy seems decent and great fight sence best ever 👏 love from 🇬🇧
Fact so many people overlook the skill of Jackie chan, very highly skilled
Jackie Chan is a clever and funny man. To put Benny the Jet on like that (I’m gonna fight you!) is very clever, to have that frisson in the air when he needed it, and to use what Benny could do in his film to such good effect, shows very well that he knows what he’s on about. He knew full well that Benny was a professional fighter and he wasn’t about to wreck himself on a professional fighter, but Benny the jet wasn’t a professional filmmaker and didn’t know what Jackie was up to with all the tricks, but when you see what Jackie and his team created, wow, what a great choreography and it did justice to Benny’s skills.
Love Benny & Jacky fight scenes
This is a cool interview. Back in the early 90s Benny came to our Karate school in Toronto. He was awesome, and a really nice guy. I still have the book he signed for me.
iloved jacky chans movies hes one of the best
