not really, The goofiness takes away the intensity of the Fight. I hope that Luffy will focus more into developing his Haki and less development towards his DF
A theory I have is that Luffy actually needed Gear 5 in order for this battle to be won. Tot Musica was ridiculously strong, far beyond Yonko if Shanks needed to be there period. I feel Shanks and Luffy had no chance in this fight, however Luffy didn’t buy it. He had pictured meeting Shanks again for so long and he knew that when he saw him he would have to be at his peak to be worthy of Pirate King. When that time came he couldn’t even imagine any other opponent he would face besides him, much less joining him in battle agaisnt some even greater for. So by sheer will in this fight just to prove to his role model how far he’d come, that imagination took reality subconsciously through the fruit and unlocked this power without him even realizing. And the reason they won wasn’t because of purely strength. But because Luffy could never imagine losing a battle in front of the man he hopes to be better than.
While i agree with this theory on WHY he went gear 5, your theory on him “willing” himself to win I don’t think. If you’re implying that Gear 5 can warp reality to where he can win, then that’s just wrong. Gear 5’s toon force ability’s can’t just “allow” him to win a fight if he just “imagines” it. It gives him absolute freedom, to do basically anything, but he still has limits, he can still take damage, and his powers can be overcome and still survive.
@@jacenwadeI thought he can’t just bend reality because luffy doesn’t understand what his fruit truly is, and limits himself from just automatically winning battles

you're looking at it the wrong way. This wasn't really a full Gear 5 and the exact thing you're complaining about here kind of proves it. It's more like a partial breakthrough that not even Luffy recognised the true nature of at the time. I actually think it works quite well as a hint given that this was in absolutely no way a good time to reveal Gear 5 entirely.
@Madman13K You're saying it's kind of like that snippet of gear 2 we see in that other One Piece movie? Ya know what, with this movies musical nature and a beat going on in the background, that actually totally makes more sense
I hate these movies. They ruin the suspense that both the manga and anime have been building up to for literal decades. "Oh! You wanted to see both Luffy and Shanks in action? And you've ONLY waited over 20 years to see it? No this isn't canon, but here you go! :D" it's like, dude. They ruin the suspense of seeing gear 5 Luffy, and they ruin the suspense of seeing Shanks in action. We all know to some degree that Shanks is somewhere around Gear 5 in terms of influence in the one piece world and Haki mastery in general. But our eyes have to remain virgin to what this could possibly be like so that the impact of it can be multiplied. But when we see things like this, essentially "what ifs" of the one piece world, it's as if we're seeing the actual characters in action, because at the end of the day, they're FICTIONAL characters. "Oh bro but stop overreacting, it's not canon" It doesn't matter that it's not canon, if we're promised a particular confrontation between two FICTIONAL ANIMATED characters, then we see a studio animate this very confrontation between the same two FICTIONAL ANIMATED characters, it doesn't matter if it's canon or not does it? They've already ruined the gravitas of it. It's like if someone force feeds you a little Caesars pizza right before eating a $1000 dollar pizza slice. Pizza is pizza, and so realistically the experience won't change much except for the flavor, but it ruins your anticipation and the catharsis of saving yourself for that particular moment. And instead of giving both Shanks and gear 5 Luffy the respect they deserved as one of the best characters in anime ever, period, their 'non-canon-collab' ends up being some cringe poorly put together 'Deku-All Might-combined-smash' parody 'student-teacher' attack bullshit with gay dragons. The non Canon events are essentially fan animations in terms of how you should interpret them. There's tons of fan animations out there of things that have yet to happen. My point is we've essentially already seen Shanks in action. We already know his character. The mystique of his persona has been ruined, by a fucking non canon movie. It sucks cock. Animated characters don't have that same privilege. If the platform is big enough, and the animation team, as well as the style of animation, and post production is on par with the actual team of artists and animators, then the "non canon" depiction of the character on screen might as well have been canon. Let me put it into a language you can understand. If the guy who made GT animated Goku getting booty fucked, sure it would be "non canon", as in that's not the "main timeline" Goku, but we can nonetheless say that we as an audience know what Goku would look like getting booty raped. That's not the case with this. This is a grade A animation that might as well have been commissioned by Oda, and the characters that are being portrayed ARE indeed the characters they claim to be. The point isn't whether it's canon or not, the point is that the experience of seeing Shanks is being ruined. Canon or not, that IS SHANKS. We as fans are SEEING SHANKS in action, even if it's not canon. In fact, a fan animation spoiling the original vision of what the creator had in mind is way more acceptable than a grade A animation that ruins the experience of seeing the character on screen.
@@camilionee1126 Also, filler episodes ARE canon even if they're not part of the source material. Because they're being shown in the original canon portrayal of said characters, receiving approval from the ORIGINAL creator. I would watch 1000 filler episodes before watching a single movie.
