The Boston Fire Department had to replace 80% of the fleet because of aging equipment and mechanical failures and one of the incidents was from Boston Ladder 26 after returning from Huntington Ave from medical emergency. The brakes failed and killed one of our firefighters sadly, so Marty Walsh and Commissioner Joe Finn made a plan to replace the engines and ladder in the City of Boston. And now we have brand engines and ladders in Boston and they are better ever. Stay safe Nashville!

drmayeda1 exactly. My city doesn’t have much money but just purchased a new engine from E-One a year ago. Not buying any vehicles until one of the engines is getting replaced which is in 5 years.
Now the question is, will there EVER be a Hybrid Fire Engine ever made? Dont think that there ever has been one of those made for any police department......
They exist _Andrew_, in fact, Greenville, N.C just showed off their hybrid a few weeks ago. The problem is, most cities already roll an engine and ambulance to medical calls. Depending on the severity the engine may stay at the scene or leave early. Now additional miles are being added for patient transportation which further decreases the engine's lifespan and increases maintenance requirements. From a financial standpoint, I don't see hybrids taking off. Ultimately, ambulances are much cheaper to purchase, repair and replace.
A hybrid could never compete with a diesel engine. Diesels, are durable. last longer, more powerful, and can idle for days at a time, unlike a hybrid. Fire equipment typically idles longer than actually driving
Justin I think you are thinking of the wrong kind of Hybrid. I think he meant a diesel hybrid engine but I also saw the hybrid rig you are talking about and that thing is atrocious. Talk about a waste. You hit the nail on the head with reasons why it isn't worthwhile but a more important reason is taking that fire engine out of service on a medical transport and delaying rescue efforts in case there is a fire. If that Engine has to transport a patient across a city with traffic issues. I know here in Atlanta transport times can top 30 mins that's a half hour that other companies have to cover that Engine Company's area. And if those Engine's are also on transports? Opens a huge rabbit hole I don't think anyone wants to open.
Dharmesh Patel I prefer the Gladiator. The engines can be above 450 HP in the gladiator. The 450 doesn’t cut it in rural areas. Hill areas are not the best for the Metrostar.
So cool seeing them all lined up. 🚒🚑👍

Good.

Andrew Silva I don't think that would be possible any time soon due to the amount of power it takes to run any emergency vehicles
