The privilege of working for department that is wealthy enough to have sports medicine on site and cover those costs. Rest of us are paying out of pocket during our off-days to get that treatment, amazing. Applause to White River Fire prioritizing the health and fitness of their firefighters and medics, really great.
I used to work at a company that provided IT services to local and state governments. As the PM I got to go to every single fire station in my town and other towns and I gotta say they were incredibly cozy feeling. Very comfortable inside and the firefighters were awesome to us. They always had a ton of donuts or cookies the public dropped off for them that they’d let us have.
That is one we'll thoughtout station design. Everything flows nicely from the admin side to the bay's and the living area. This is now one of my favourite stations around. Great video by the way.
We will have to go back at some point and do that. Those are their reserve apparatus, that's why we didn't film them when we were there. The yellow specialty rig is going to be taken apart and redone soon too.
A LIL LATE TO THE PARTY ,ON THIS CRIBS ! NICE,SHINNY! BUT IF WE COULD ALL HAVE A "GEAR ROOM" ,THAT WOULD CHANGE THE GAME FOR SURE ! THANK YOU BROTHER , VERY GOOD !
Our town bonded out $2 million for a new VFD station and we only get 300 runs a year with NO EMS component.. (most runs are first responder non fire/accident medical runs going direct from a FF's home. ). a big nice pole barn would have done the job for $400,000-$600,000. The rest of that money could have been used for training , equipment ,all sorts of things that would improve recruitment and response even contracting for an extra private EMS rig would have been a better use of that $$
And this is the difference between a 1st world, developed country and a 3rd world country folks. What an amazing station. Yes, a lot of tax dollars have gone into it but that's what tax dollars are for. Saving lives, homes and everything in between. Just awesome and what a great example for the kids. The only sad thing is when the station master mentioned active school shooters as if it's a fairly common thing over there. Very sad indeed. Great video HND, thanks and greetings from New Zealand. Stay safe everyone :)
Ever thought of coming west, specifically to eastern Washington state? There are some cool stations in my area that would be fun to see full videos on and interviews!
Awesome station, even better is the staffing. ~23 full timers per shift for a run volume of 3,500? Interested in hearing what role the part timers play.
@@coreyraines9597 Yeah it’s interesting with how many people they got. My local fire department only has 155 full time members and responded to 11,258 calls for service and over 200 structure fires just last year.
Dang, I remember when station 53 only had 1 engine and 1 ambulance. I took fire 1 and 2 at central nine and did some hours at station 51, off olive branch and 135. I still have my area 51 station 51 alien shirt. Still dont get why they went to red and black trucks. I loved the bright yellow trucks.
Greetings from an Australian paramedic. Can somebody explain how the rostering works with the paramedics at Station 53? I'm assuming they work a 24 hour roster? A town that size here would yield about 10-12 jobs in a 24 period. My questions are what's the workload like, and how are they expected to work non stop in 24 hours? I'm in a larger city where we average 8-10 jobs in a 12 hour shift, so basically zero rest time, and maybe 2-3 hours on a nightshift.
Here in Victoria, Australia all our urban brigades or either Volunteer (CFA), or full time (FRV) with no part time/paid firies. Do part time US departments run off on call services? I’m uncertain and curious. Cheers from down under 🇦🇺
We have a mix, larger cities are paid, mid size to small cities and towns are usually also often paid with some exceptions rural areas are usually all volunteers, however it is also become common to see departments running a mix of a paid with volunteers as extra manpower for large scale or multiple incidents. My department for example is paid EMS during the day with volunteers for second calls and night shift, we moved to this because our town is growing and in the last 4 or so years we went from about 500 calls for service to over 3,000. Other departments operate on a “paid on call” basis, for example I worked for a town where you got paid minimum wage to be “on call” with the perk of being able to sit at home and make money and if you were activated you received double time pay for the duration of that call which was a good way to keep cots low while make sure service is guaranteed when someone calls 911.
Hard to see that room as being pressurized with that type of door. Must be really low pressure. The equivalent to what your vehicle is when the windows are up and your fan/blower is on.
Even though it’s an area for them to hangout in, it’s not classified as a living space, that’s why they can have a table there. All of the trucks have exhaust vents connected to them so it’s still pretty safe
There were just not enough to staff the station safely let alone operate a business this large without being full time paid. This type of problem is happening all across America. This company has done a great transition for others to learn from.
