...self isolation sucks, but it has meant I can watch the entire back catalogue of posted videos. Marc, the one thing that has shown me is that you are a true enthusiast and a real gentleman.
Mark, are the ceramic bezel's ring aligned perfect? As the aluminum ones, which I own, never come with proper alignment. Can a bezel be fixed if not aligned? Thanks
I really like this watch I think in ten or twenty years it will look like inside and out. I when I went to school when I was six years old in 1970 my grandfather bought me a Poljot lesson as a gift. I still have it today, I really like it I wear it from time to time, it is in perfect condition. It was in daily use from 1970 to 1985. Does this SeaGull know the same performance? Sorry for the grammatical errors, I am Hungarian, I live in Hungary with poor English.
I love high beat watches. My favorite brand for cheap 28k vph watches being Glycine. Mark - any reason why you don't sell Glycine? They seem to be permanently discounted and are excellent value with ETAs. What other watches from LIW have ETAs or 28k movements?
I actually really like the way the bezel fits with the outer case. Blends well. The aluminum bezel insert is a problem for me . . . that's always what scratches on my watches.
@@islandwatch Always diggin the accent man...and also, thanks very much for your fast response when I emailed you the other day, you have some great bracelet choices for Seiko!
Love my islander. It gets more wrist time than many more expensive watches that I own. I’m on the list for you flight watch version. Any idea when they will be available?
Got one of them from you guys, I love it. My only issues are that the lume is kinda weak, the bezel isn't as easy to use as I'd like, and the bezel is slightly shorter than the crystal.
You said bezel doesn't have minute markers all the way round and therefore isn't ISO certified. Does that mean Rolex submariner and Omega seamaster aren't either?
I do really like the look of the watch I’ve had my eye on this one for sometime really like the brushed finish. Not crazy about the polished part of the bracelet but I’d probably swap out for a nato anyway. Little large for street use though especially on smaller wrists like mine.
My Ocean Star, which I bought directly from Sea Gull, says it's water resistant to 200m. In fact, all of the images I can find online say 200m on the dial. Are these fakes?
Pros: $399 Good clasp and bracelet Dial design is clean Bezel is looking great and the click is evident. Cons: 60 clicks bezel instead of 120 clicks Too many polished surfaces, making it look cheap. 44mm + 50mm L2L = too huge for me (39mm + 44-46mm L2L is the sweet spot) Case back design is simply not attractive to me at all.
I love the watch, that gold pentagram is a cool touch. The lume is a big bummer though. The bracelet is meh, so I would ditch it in a heartbeat. Thanks for the review, Marc! Zs
@@MrLeandroRJ Sorry I may not have been clear enough. "Watch" to me means the watch (head) itself, bar the bracelet. It looks nice, is well finished, has a decent size. The lume is a bummer which is one flaw. The bracelet is not a flaw of the watch in my book :) Zs
Quick guide to watches & water... Less than 50m and it’s no good for swimming, apparently. No watch ever made is safe in the shower, apparently. Less than 200m and it’s no good for high diving, apparently. Anything much over an actual 50m is a waste, actually. A watch with an automatic helium valve doesn’t need much water resistance (because it’s dry inside the only place watches and helium share space). Manual helium valves are worthless (when you’re asleep and your diving chamber is being moved). Basically until someone makes a watch that’s truly waterproof when entering 50m of hot soapy water via a 30m diving board they’re all marketing gimmicks. G-shock does not necessarily approve this message.
Hey! Wanted to give you a tip for your video framing. It looks better when someones head is positioned higher in the frame so you have less headroom from the top. Right now it’s positioned in the center but angling the camera down a bit would make it look better. Just my advice from my video experience :)
Too big and too thick for me. Probably too heavy too. I am not sure if you know but ETA 2824 lost the patent along time ago. It is one of the oldest ETA movements out there. Selita copies it, probably many do. It is legal.
Wait so wouldn't that make the Rolex Submariner a non ISO6425 diver then since it doesn't have markings on the entire bezel? What about the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and other 200m+ wr watches. I'm sorry but I have to strongly disagree. What I'm aware of in order for a watch to be classified as a diver is the following. 1) Rotating bezel that only goes one way 2) Luminescent hands and hr markets 3) WR of at least 200m (100m for snorkeling) 4) Screw Down Crown 5) Bezel minute scale going up to 60 minutes but doesn't mean it has to be fully on the bezel. I'm sure there's more but so far these are the ones I can recall.
...read the full iso 6425 spec before you "strongly disagree" with someone who clearly has more knowledge of the subject than you. Some of the best dive watches in the world do not have ISO rating. There are a variety of equally stringent pressure tests manufacturers use, but if they want "dive" or "diver" on the dial they also need ISO rating. Largely it's a question of personal taste and aesthetics, I know my Sinn U1 and my Oris Aquis are capable dive watches without the fact on the dial. Be more courteous.
For this price, a Seiko is going to have Hardlex instead of sapphire, and most likely a hollow link bracelet and stamped clasp instead of solid links and milled clasp like this Ocean Star. To be fair I do give Seiko credit for generally having much better lume in their divers.
Made in Japan used to be presumed inferior quality. Ditto Made in Taiwan and Made in Korea. But all it took in every case was a little time for them to get their act together. What is the infatuation with dive watches? Who's going to go diving anyway? Why isn't there more watch videos about beautiful dress watches? What is the chances of somebody going diving versus somebody going on a dinner date, and if somebody goes on a dinner date is he going to take some big dive watch or is he going to take a nice elegant dress watch?
Dive watches are like SUVs. Dress watches are like luxury sedans. Many people buy dive watches and SUVs because they are affordable substitutes for unaffordable dress watches and luxury sedans. Perfectly understandable to my mind.
We'll Chuck, I just got a Kamasu less than a week ago. I am planning to get my grubby paws on one of Marks Islanders very soon and there is G shock on my radar too, so I am way more promiscuous than I would like to admit, or my wife to know about.
Beautiful and awesome value but by far too big for me. 44 mm is a no go. I wear 41 at most. Why are Divers ever so big? Nonsense. Apart from some freaks who go for the big ones watches of whatsoever style should be matched to peoples wrists nowadays irrespective of its ‚true’ or historic dimensions and functionality. Remember the success of Seikos SNK 809 Flieger style. Iconic with 37/38 mm.
42 is the SMALLEST I'd do for a diver. Don't know why people complain when most divers are 40-42. I had to return the white faced Mako USA because it was too small...

Hilarious. That's exactly why I'm here.
I like how you were able to produce an SKX at a moment's notice, and the threw it to the side with a crash, LOL.
It's easy to tell the watch is nicely finished.
It is.
Love your videos; I learn a lot.
Thank you.
Very nice indeed 44mm is my size and prefer a 60 click bezel and pepsi should be non ceramic for me too .Perfect diver .Love it .
Thanks!
Now THAT is a mighty fine looking wrist watch!
Thanks!
Mark, are the ceramic bezel's ring aligned perfect? As the aluminum ones, which I own, never come with proper alignment. Can a bezel be fixed if not aligned? Thanks
Unless you are a professional diver. Or else who cares about the bezel? This seagull diver is still a very beautifully diver watch! 👍👍👍

Actially I had a huge crush on the Ocean Star 💪🙏
Nice watch.
Mark have you found the ST2130 movement stiff to wind?
Nice video. I'm wondering how this version compares with the version of the Ocean Star with a black ceramic bezel and improved lume.
I think this is more like the original one, the blue and black with aluminum insert.
Looks good! Thanks for sharing it Marc. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Thanks for watching!
Not bad, but you can get a San Martin with a high beat ST5000 with ceramic bezel for less money.

Nice looking watch, I actually prefer your islander model. Other than the high beat movement it has everything else this watch has.
Thanks Chris.

Nice enough watch, but that Seagull logo kind of stinks. It looks like an envelope.

None of the Ocean Divers are.
Imo they wear smaller than the size suggests

This is the limited edition with Pepsi colored bezel (red and blue), it’s 300m. Yours must be either blue or black for the dial and bezel.
Are all the dive watch names taken? I think Mido has their own Ocean Star lineup.
I don't think anyone TM's them.

So, if I changed out the bezel on my SKX or Turtle for one that was not fully indexed, would it no longer be an ISO certified Diver’s watch? 🤔
Correct.
