@@RussCR5187 I think just by what you define practical as not being poetic, one cannot mean that facing the truth doesn't require a keen insight as well as intellect. If you want practical solution, then, your practical approach should never be void of human compassion or respect. Those virtues are quite poetic and should be written in verse, but, if we do such things for the people we are ridiculed by others. Without poetry you cannot touch the humanity of people because poetry is like a flower, it takes time, effort, and love. Unlike the instant gratification of hitting a problem head-on just to solve it, every racial issue cannot be solved through a practical approach there is a deeper problem when it comes to human beings and their interaction, and interaction needs reform. One needs to look at poets, authors, and orators to know how to strengthen the collective consciousness as well teach black people to want a better life for themselves as individuals.
Professor West, for years have I seen you present your erudition upon the critical issues that for generations have confronted us in the United States of America and the world. I have come to respect and admire you for your incisive, unrelenting candour and your abiding kindness. I bring to you this following, because I can find little else I can reach (and frankly, I can trust). I do so here, for my chief means to communicate with the wider world is through UA-cam; and this through typing with just one finger on a ludicrously small keyboard, itself on a little screen. On the issues of race, racism, etc., I have so much to say--many just ques- tions, in an effort to understand, though I have a number of observa- tions, primarily of what most informal- ly call "white people"--and so much to learn. I shall begin with the most pressing of late. What is "woke"? My rudimen- tary assessment is that it is an effort of African Americans 1) truly to learn of their circumstances, 2) to determ- ine their way out, and to rise above, and 3) to end racism, toward making a United States of America that truly is free and equal.

@@jezra4427 not only that, but we have a culture repeatedly telling us, urging us over and over to seek pleasure, but to give up on joy. Joy is the enemy of a violent imperial patriarchal-capitalist society. We have most of us younger people and kids spending most of our time on social media platforms that are also just big business, profiteering off of our phychology- need for connection, attention, love and so forth.
He sounds like a impassioned preacher when he lectures, it would be a treat to have him as a professor
What else can you say about Dr. West that has not already been said? The man is absolutely brilliant and a gifted teacher. One day these students will tell their kids and grandchildren about having this honor and privilege!
This is what the internet was made for. The exchange of useful information across great distances in an instant.
I love this man, we are all brothers and sisters, don't get it twisted! Be your brothers keeper.
Brother's keeper
@@karencontestabile6064 yes, thank you!
Right on.
Sounds good, only if it were true.
Brother West talks with a poetry and verse that one can't love to breath in.
But that's all it is. Black America needs practical solutions to practical problems. People like West need to GTFO of the way.
@@elements1985 I wonder if practical solutions are best informed by what has been tried before, the interconnectedness of people's lives, a keen understanding of people and what's liable to be accepted as a solution, and so on. I wonder if Dr West works to pull all of that together.
@@adityaroy7616 That's what I was trying to get at. Dr. West DOES work to pull all of what I mentioned together.
@@RussCR5187 amen to that :)
This was a heavy duty close reading. I read Du Bois "Dusk to Dawn" years ago but West lecture makes me want to re read it.
Thanks Dartmouth for spreading this knowledge/ power freely!
This man is a legend. Harvard lost out, BIG TIME!

Funny how the “Director” protected that publication from getting through and printed.
Respect a man’s actions instead of his false teachings that are fueled by a corrupt bias towards his pocketbook........ of which strings are pulled and paid for by the exact opposite in character and color he pretends to portray.
I was so disappointed in the man, when I saw it for myself 1st hand.
Young people be careful who and what you listen to.
I trust what Chuck D says on his worse day.
That’s truth!!!
Such an absolutely brilliant and erudite mind, Brother West gives me hope x ❤️

Having this man as a regular professor would be a delight the princeton students who take classes with him are very very lucky
I am watching this for the 10th time, its an academic lecture with instances where it feels like a sermon about truth. No dogmatic religion just truth!
What an honor to see this man expound on life's mysteries. One of the most influential intellectuals of our generation.
University is such a beautiful concept.
I wish I could attend one of his lectures in person. It would be such an honor.
Sleep study. The investigation will not be complete without a sleep study. I've been there! I appreciate all you share on this channel and wish you health. Thank you for this encouragement.
This Brother has a great mind with outstanding knowledge and wisdom, I would have loved to be in his classroom setting
Brother west is the most profound intellectual in our time. His speech gives often time a sense of of higher morale compass. Everyone around him feels dignified, valued no matter his race, color, and belief etc...
Ok! Dr. West is in his atmosphere, huh! He’s a fish in water. Like what he does with his interpretational prowess. Wonder if DuBois would agree with West’s interpretation of his work.
you guys are so luck for having among you Dr.West. he is both a brilliant mind and genuine soul. His honesty and integrity are what made him lovable and unique. Shine and rise brother West. I truly meant it bro.
"Culture of mass distractions generate indifference toward the things that really matter." ( 30:26 )
True dat
A very deep intellectual whose sense of the world, cultures, the past, and human suffering is accurate. I have had the honor of seeing and hearing his lectures on several occasions in Richmond.
A MASTER storyteller!! Listen how he CREATES images in the minds of his listeners!! He has the gift of bringing one into his narrative/storytelling as he deftly takes you from there into the REALITIES of this thing called life!!! Is this brilliant or what?
But on to the topic of discussion, the 'culture of mass indifference' to what matters, isn't that what those who can do to us who cannot stop them, for now? We shall OVERCOME because we continue to have the guidance of our Creator and the visions of our ancestors on our side!!!💕💯
This is the first time I have had a glimmer of appreciation for Dr West. I have always seen him as a cartoon of himself. Who knew? This is a genuinely talented educator. Love
I Haven’t Watched One Second & I Know These Students Are Going To Be Better People Once This Class Is Over.

The guy who showed up late to Dr. West’s class got some balls. I’d be so scared.
I was just thinking this too.. definitely would trigger my fight or flight response
